Friendly elk relocated to prime hunting region in Idaho one day before archery season

Dogs are the animals known as "man's best friend", but in Sweet, Idaho, that animal happens to be an elk. They call him "Elliot the Elk", and he made the town of Sweet his home for about two years until Idaho Fish and Game relocated him to Bear Meadows in the Sawtooth National Forest.

Elliot was the town pet! It is CRIMINAL of Idaho Fish & Game to release him one day before hunting season on hunting ground!

They're not gonna hunt him. He's way too young. Hunters go for the big, older bucks. Who dont fertilize anymore.

@@theshittybowman , not with knowing its Eliot . But , I dont hunt for antlers , I hunt for meat . I prefer does or cows over bucks or bulls . More tender meat .

Elliot should be Visibly Brightly Collared with a Tracker, and Ear Tagged and Marked as off limits to Hunters ... as Elliot is not truly a wild animal.

you do realize many hunters consider that as a trophy to achieve if they see it non ethical or not look at wolves its like icing on the cake so that's not the best

He is a domesticated animal at this point. It is cruel to put him in the wild. He should have been left alone as the town pet.

It’s amazing ,so amazing, how some people are so incredibly motivated to try and show how tough,cruel ,and stupid they are. It’s obvious that this beautiful animal was not a problem to anyone at all. The person that made this decision deserves to see their teeth laying on the ground before them. Emerald Thunder Heyoka!!!⚡️

The elk in Washington state, button seat elk became habituated to people. So they relocated her to the woodland Park zoo. Why couldn't Idaho do the same for Elliot?

Elliot is a friendly member of the community.....how can they do such evil to him? Why can't they just leave him be....he is an animal embassador! Those people are are cruel and evil.... May God protect Elliot and all the animals that are being hunted....🙏🙏🙏

So... Basically, Fish & Game want to put an Elk that's extremely friendly with humans who give him pets and food, making him NOT wild, into a place that it meant for hunting big game. And so they take it upon themselves to take Elliot to a place where he'll most likely die.

After growing up, he "became a problem??" I know ranchers who have taken in unusual pets that have adopted to their other animals, living side by side. Then there are all the rescue centers for large wild animals. And they said they looked "nationwide" for a place?? -- I don't get it. In fact I smell a rat - especially when they decide to release him "one day before hunting season." -- Give me a break.

They didn't "make a search." They could have brought him to the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, Washington.

I live out in Oregon country and I there were elk right outside my RV when I went to work this morning. A local heard lives in this neck of the valley. I don't wanna touch 'em, cause I don't want them touching me back with those antlers. Beautiful and enormous, but that's as close as I ever want to get. Glad I didn't spook em. I looked down, and minded by own business and they stayed chill. It's scary up close when they all run.

A lot of young people have 4-H project's and have a close personal relationship with an animal and in the end the trusting animal is harvested. What is the difference between that and this? It just boils down to who is doing it and who claims ownership of the trusting animal, right?

These 4-H projects in which young people gently and carefully raise an animal only to be killed are arcaically conceived and abysmally cruel! I have always wondered what such a cavalier approach to an innocent animal's future teaches these 4-Hers? Development of a hardened heart? Ignorance to the suffering of both the animal and human?

As a hunter myself, maybe you should be the one in the freezer. Comments and or actions like this, gives all of us non-trophy hunter's a very bad name. Even if it's just meant as a joke. Very bad taste.
