Actor Matthew Perry, most notably known in his role in hit '90s sitcom “Friends,” died in his Los Angeles home at the age of 54, police said.

To this day I watch Friends when I’m feeling stressed. For me it’s like grilled cheese and hot soup on a cold Sunday under a blanket while watching a movie. The magic, laughs and vulnerability that Perry brought through Chandler was and continues to be a blessing. Thank you Matthew… you did good sir. You left too soon and you will be missed 💔

As a 41 year old, over here in Scotland that grew up with Friends (Friday, channel 4, 9pm), I am gutted. Even to this day, Friends is the go-to on Comedy Central and it’s just a comfort, even in the background, knowing that every single episode has been watched a thousand times each. We all know he struggled during and after with certain things but this is such a tragedy. RIP Chanandeler Bong

Of all the interviews that I've seen folk do, something about his was genuine. As it seemed like what he was open about could actually help those that can relate to what he was going through. Plus, he didn't seem like he was someone that hid behind excuses.

My son laughs that I can virtually narrate every single episode, but that’s what Friends was and still is. Like comfort food, Friends was played when silence needed to be filled. Even he, a 21yr guy, loves watching them. In fact, I was watching them when the news broke. They were the friends you could always rely on to be there. Rest Peacefully Chandler Muriel Bing 💔

54 is such a young age to pass away. Such sad news indeed, but very happy to know that Mr Perry was able to fight through his addiction and embrace a good life. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but he did it. He left good memories with a lot of people, and we won't forget him. Prayers to his family and close friends. Rest in Peace, good sir.

I'm just recently 55 and have been taking as prescribed oxy and morphine for pain but using them as prescribed, without alcohol and not running out and seeking more is the difference between an addict and not. Now, I wanna take my whole bottle of morphine and opt out of this crap life😢

@@laurakibben4147 I hope you can think of some reasons to hang in there instead, and just hide that bottle away as an insurance policy (a way to check out) that you won't ever use. I'm 56 and struggle but glad I'm still here. Not every day or every moment. But I hope you can think about the moments that are worth being in life. I hope more of those come for you. Although had plenty of suffering and hurdles, addiction hasn't been one of them for me either. Didn't drink much or often after age 21 and quit altogether in mature adulthood. But I too had prescribed oxy in 2008 (which I took for less than three weeks before I read about it and stopped taking it and returned it to the doctor [never flush medications everyone, never, it's harmful] - I had a few nights of rough sleep and restless legs but then was done and so glad I ditched it). I'd been on Vicodin before that and was again after that and later was put on fast acting and slow release morphine -- then told doctor *no more* in 2013, when doc wanted to increase dose again. It wasn't helping and I insisted on advice instead to cease taking it with minimal adverse affects. Doc helped as I asked. I weaned off and so glad I did. *Also glad I didn't take all my extra morphine I found around the house later when things were tough* , but returned it to a doctor too. My life is *far* from perfect but it's still worth living. Even knowing I won't be missed by many when my time comes. I hope you have a few people to reach out to or can access a professional for support.

This broke my heart.... I absolutely loved watching him on Friends! It is so awful to face the fact that someone who connected us to our earlier years, and touched our hearts is now gone. Matt was a very brave courageous person for sharing his struggles with us all, it's not easy to do that but he wanted to do what he could to help other people. One has to admire that. I don't consider him to be a tragic figure. He was honest and he was brave and much loved by all who knew him and his fans. While he was born in the US, he also had that Canadian persona, the niceness that shone through. RIP Matt and thanks for the smiles thru the years. ♥

Friends saved my life multiple times during my own addiction and recovery to the loss of my sister. I’m heartbroken. Chandler was my favorite friend. So grateful for Matthew’s legacy.

I read Matthew's biography. He showed the face of a normal person (we know he was a big Hollywood star). He had problems, failures, weaknesses like many of us. (Me too). Matthew founded a home where people get help in overcoming addiction. Despite his problems, he moved forward. Greetings from Poland .

I’m absolutely crushed by his passing! He was my favorite actor and I loved his character. My husband and I even named our cat, Chandler M. Bing. I also created a and a magnet with a photo of his character (the one where Rachel finds him in her boss’s office and she cuffs him to the cabinet instead of the chair) and it says, “Could you BE any closer?!” I was so proud of him (still am) for getting the help he knew he needed for all that he went through. Thank you Matthew for the laughs and for cheering me up after my Mom died 8 years ago. My husband and I will cherish our dvd box of the entire series EVEN MORE now. ❤😢

Everytime I see an actor with such a drastic change in appearance I worry. Usually it leads to having a heart problem. I remember John Ritter and I felt the same way about Matthew. I was a fan of both, as a fan this is heartbreaking. Both John and Matthew was beloved and this death is greatly felt by all . Losing Matthew is huge. As a fan, I hope you knew how much you meant to us all RIP. You will forever be missed, and you will forever be in our hearts.

When I first heard of his passing, I was in utter shock and disbelief. His death feels so different, so surreal. Matthew was one of the few talented, sincere, and truly charismatic actors left in Hollywood, and his life seriously didn't have to end like this. RIP...he just didn't deserve this awful fate! 🥺

When my son told me yesterday, it was just known for 30 minutes, and I bawled. Friends has always been my favorite show. It got me through so much in life. Broke my heart. I saw him 2 days ago in the Friends reunion on tv from 2021. I was so shocked. His face was puffy, tired, and looked 70 and frail, compared to the others. I spend the whole time studying their faces. I didn't think it was a face-lift. I felt so bad for him. I thought about his health for 2 days. Then thought it was in 2021, 2 yrs ago. Surely he's OK. Then heard he passed. I feel so bad for his family. You can pass out in a hot tub over 20 mins. Poor guy. He was loved by millions. Not many can say that. RIP..

Thank you sir for bringing all that comforting and healing laughter when I needed it, and sharing your story for those of us that have been sharing the same struggle of addiction. I was 21 years addicted to Codeine and I recognize someone on it with my eyes closed. The interview that he gave october 2022, he was high on it, the relaxed facial moves, the way he speaks, like too much saliva in his mouth and at the same time feeling dry mouthed, his eyes in the light of the studio, glassy. I was like that 21 years long (without interruption), day in day out, I survived, I am clean since the birth of my daughter in 2012, but there is no day in my life that it is not on my mind, and have to fight it (sometimes lightly, sometimes heavely) every day. It stays with you for life and I think he never compleetly stopped with it. It is very sad, I love the man, but somehow, in a strange way I understand how this could have happened. After any addiction you are damned to walk a thin line, and if you have a lot of money and connections like he had and so much temptation in life, it is easy to step next to that line. R.I.P. Mr. Perry, your suffering is over.

I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and for some reason I checked my phone to see what time it was (I don't usually do that) and it was everywhere. This is one of those times where I am actually speechless. Like I couldn't even get a word or a sound out for a full 10 minutes because I was in such a shock (and still am). Now I've been crying nonstop for about 30 minutes. I haven't even gotten to check or read some of the posts from the cast or other celebrities. I literally bought his book a few weeks ago but haven't gotten around to read it. I genuinely feel like a friend died and I am not ashamed to admit it. It's gonna be hard watching Friends now. But hopefully it can help too. Rest in Peace Matthew 💔 You were and are so loved ❤
