Ross doesn't hate Rachel, what he hates is that's she's an exceptionally successful, smart, cute and funny Rachel while he's just Ross. (I mean in this show she must have made a LOT of people jealous IRL, I mean...you can see clearly what she brings to the show) She could easily have left him, gone to Paris and been happy...except for the fact that she got pregnant and decided to have the baby. And then decided to have Ross' baby once she found out that it was Ross' baby. And that's where the script between them got flipped upside-down. I might have the timeline backwards but it doesn't matter. The point is that at one point she broke up with Ross because he was interfering with her career, then she abandoned her plans to move to Paris for her career, all for Ross. The same guy that she refused to get back together with after he had sex with another woman while "they were on a break" for 45 minutes. He didn't even make it through that night without fucking someone else who everyone knew and everyone found out about before 9am the next morning. And she quite rightfully did not take him back after that...but no...couldn't quite go through with it for real. So if he hates her, it's because she's very good at rubbing his nose in the fact that he is not in her league. And this is a real problem that a lot of guys have with women. They can get women but they can't get *that* woman or even if they can get her they can't keep her and ultimately they have to face the fact that not only can she do a lot better than him, why should she want to be with him in the first place...and what does that say about his chances of finding happiness with other women? Is that hate? Or just futility, jealousy, humility and resentment? The catch-22 about this entire show is that Ross gets the girl of his dreams but it's more like she settles for him than is really happy with him, and in the end Ross does the same. A lesson in being careful what you wish for when everything that you've supposedly ever wanted is just outside your door waiting for you to come out and find it. Imagine what this show would have been like in the modern environment.

@@touristguy87 I wouldn't say he's "just Ross". He's funny, highly educated, successful (later on becoming a tenured professor, albeit in a field not many people find interesting), he's caring, sweet, and an overall great guy. Sure he has his flaws, he can be quite petty, self centered and selfish, but all of them have both great qualities and flaws. I think they complimented each other well.

She won both Emmy and Golden Globe for her role.

Interestingly, Both Bruce Willis and Christina Applegate have Emmys for Friends as 'Outstanding Guest'
