I spoke to Equestria Girls director, Katrina Hadley when she was making commissions recently, and she told me that she and the other DHX crew members really wanted to take Equestria Girls in the direction of Sunset feeling homesick for Equestria and Sci-Twi going back to Crystal Prep after Friendship Games instead. It made more sense for her to go back there and teach the Shadowbolts the friendship values she learned from Sunset and the EQG Mane 5, given her pony counterpart's role as the princess of friendship in the main series. It also wouldn't have been the end of the series, as Ishi Rudell, the director of Friendship Games mentioned on Twitter that Sci-Twi was going to still keep in touch with Sunset and the EQG Mane 5 afterwards, but the Shadowbolts would have also had bigger roles alongside them too. Unfortunately, Hasbro were not on board with those ideas, and the DHX crew were devastated over not getting to put them in the final product.

After discovering these scenes, I still hate that this arc wasn't attempted or even addressed later in the series. It's fitting for Sunset to have this struggle, not sure if she belongs even after her redemption. But you also brought up another good point: Ever since this movie came out, EG later on became similar to MLP, prioritizing slice-of-life episodes over an overarching narrative. Which is redundant as MLP does this already, so why not let EG do the opposite? That's why this series was my preference of G4, I like having a narrative that keeps a consistent quality. I bet that if they kept these scenes, the movie would feel more complete AND open up the possibilities for other characters to be more fleshed out. But unfortunately, we didn't get that.

If they stayed witht the original plan, it could have been the end of Equestria Girls indeed. Sunset Shimmer would return to Equestria and become the official 8th member of the Mane crew in the Friendship is Magic storyline. That would have given some interesting episodes like an extended reconciliation episode with Princess Celestia and her new training with her. Some adventures with Starlight and Trixie and even some crossover episodes with the human world where Sunset's expertise is needed.

I wished they just added the deleted scene of Pony Sunset with Pony Twilight in Friendship games(yeah I ship them since I am a multishipper). I understand why they didn't add it because around that time Pony Twilight was dealing with Starlight and going through so many Alternate timelines/universes.

I honestly wish those deleted scenes were left in the final product. They could have given the Shadowbolts the chance to make it up to Sci-Twi and Canterlot High for how they treated them before and during the Friendship Games, as well as show them becoming less competitive afterwards, given how they saw the consequences of what happens when it goes too far. It also could have added to further expanding the Equestria Girls' universe by looking into Crystal Prep Academy more too. As for Sunset, given the reveal of her human counterpart that was originally intended for season 3, that along with those Friendship Games deleted scenes of her being left in could have taken Equestria Girls in a much more interesting direction for her arc.

i mean it's almost like the writers for EQG wanted there to be some kind of finale were sunset meets the real human sunset and have an actuals proper finale to the spin-off but it was turned down by higher ups cuz they kept turning out lack luster instalments (except for forgotten friendship) so interest in the spin-off plunged until all we got was some dumb short about an xmas photoshoot... why yes i am very bitter how could you tell?

Having read the scripts for early versions of the movie the sunset leaving plotline never fit super well into the movie as was written and that was pointed out a lot in staff feedback, it was only mentioned 3 scenes in the original version as with the deleted scenes. The late change to have her stress about wanting to make sure the friendship games go well adding to her distrust of twilight be her central arc in the movie as it is the first time since she's been at canterlot high that the school is working together after what she did the year before and everyone being against each other in rainbow rocks and the responsibility she has to her community (friends, school) causing her to blame herself for potentially getting them disqualified works a lot better in my opinion. It works to juxtapose her with sci-twi having the same responsibility pushed on her but with her not wanting it, and the implication that sci-twi has lived with the pressure of being used to get crystal prep awards and high scores in return for getting a space in the school to do personal research for a long time now. If sunsets arc in the original version was re-written and added to more of the movie overall it would have worked better but the way it was added to in the following movie and specials was a really interesting direction to take her character and i don't know if equestia girls series would have been as good as it got in later specials without this change to sunsets arc in the movie. I have all the scripts for friendship games and was working on a timeline of changes between the first drafts and when they cut the sunset leaving plotline if you'd want to have a look at them. You were right about them originally planning this movie to be the last one.

i like the movie but i think hasbro could still include the deleted scene but have the original ending scene where sci-twilight became a wonderbolt. i assume that hasbro did want to experience sunset going back to equestria, but also feels that sci-twilight needed someone (sunset) help her go through the pain as they probably experience that too. i assume after the "legend of everfree", the next is going about sunset going back to equestria at the end while introducing human sunset as a neutral teenage girl just happens to saw things happen in chs while she transfer from her old high school into chs.

Agreed, but I’m sure a lot of decisions that turn away toward character development are producer and upper management people to ensure the toy line.

both storylines are so cool and would've loved sunset as the mc for once, but i understand that they had to choose, i think leaving it like this would have been better because it would have hurt to know the next few movies would have been worse because there was no lead up or a door to the next chapter to make the next few movies as good as fg!

I don't think I ever said that, but I love these review videos of yours XD When I saw these scenes I also realized that some of them (the ones involving Sunset Shimmer) completed the movie somehow and I really liked the idea that Sunset would have a doubt about continuing in the human world or going back to Equestria or whatever. Anyway, she decides to stay in the human world, but those scenes have been deleted and all we have about Sunset's character in this movie is the fact that she can't handle the magic. I believe that these scenes were removed so that the film would be "lighter", as there would be a lot of information to be taken into account, but I would like that Sunset's doubt had been addressed in other moments, I mean, what makes her remain in the world human? Maybe she has some appreciation for this place because it was there that she found friends and went through a big change in her life, but this is not shown to us. As for Sci-Twi, I think leaving her in the main cast was a good decision to continue with the story (if they hadn't lost their way, of course) and I believe what you said, because, man, when I saw that the producers had thought of making her just go back to Crystal Prep, I was sad and thankful that it wasn't the final decision XD The more I think about EG, the more I believe that if they wanted to tell this whole story (besides the movies), they should have turned it into a series, not a miniseries ;u; Uff I always end up writing a huge text, but do you intend to talk about Legend of Everfree? I really like this movie, but I think it lacks in some points, especially in introducing new characters like Timber Spruce (I like him, but like Flash Sentry, a lot of people hate them and I think this could be fixed with better development, I do not know, I would like to know what you think about this.)

I didn't much care for what they did with Twilight's character after Friendship Games, making her an actual expy of Equestrian Twilight, with only the glasses to tell them apart, which I felt cheapened her character. I would have liked to see a human Twilight that felt independant of the other, like the rest of the Elements. I would have liked to discover what happened to the native Sunset. There was a lot of missed potential that could have been great. What happened to that "Balance" that Princess Celestia brought up in the first movie? As a consequence of never going for it, it sounds like Sunbutt just imposed arbitrary limits on Twi for literally no reason, and never gets confronted with it.

В самом начале Sci-Twi должна была по начальной задумке подружиться со своими одноклассницами из кристальной академии и вернуться в школу, а шестёрка должна была просто поставить её саму на правильный путь, но в дальнейшем их планы изменились и Sci-Twi вошла в их команду, перевелась в их школу. У авторов появились другие планы на будущее Equestrian girls, тем самым они старались сделать несколько вещей, не доставляя в наше поле зрения (что на самом деле плохо получилось): 1) Они пытались вытеснить Принцессу Твайлайт и их первую подругу из данной франшизы, ибо у неё своя жизнь и другой мир с друзьями . 2) Они старались исправить ошибку их любви с первого взгляда с Флешом Сентри, считая, что переведя повторную симпатию к Сансет Шиммер эта ситуация развеется сама собой, но так же провалились. Не все были за эту идею, считая брони фанатов, и поэтому старались менее, чем понятно и конкретно показывать их дружеские отношения, хоть Сансет и не испытывала к нему что-то когда-либо. Есть много примеров и причин, почему ситуация взяла резкий оборот, а также есть и множество последствий. Но как брони-фанат хочу сказать вывод из всего этого: очевидно, что Equestrian girls в целом не смогли вынести публику также, как вынес хоть один сезон основной франшизы «Дружба - это чудо!» Я не скажу, что My Little Pony как либо лучше выглядел на первом месте, ибо это стоило нам последних испорченных сезонов, а также я была разочарована их закрытием и началом нового поколения, но даже я, будучи человеком, который оценил G5 в отрицательную сторону, не считая самого появления, думаю, что может быть это всё и к лучшему. Поколения меняются, G4 не справился со своим начальным сюжетом, считая все выпуски одинаково по сходству персонажей и актеров, но может быть G5 хотябы вывезет всю прошедшую ситуацию, и оставит её в стороне... Выбор за вами, это лично моё мнение.
