Plot - The demon king has been defeated, and the victorious hero party returns home before disbanding. The four-mage Frieren, hero Himmel, priest Heiter, and warrior Eisen-reminisce about their decade-long journey as the moment to bid each other farewell arrives. But the passing of time is different for elves, thus Frieren witnesses her companions slowly pass away one by one. Before his death, Heiter manages to foist a young human apprentice called Fern onto Frieren. Driven by the elf's passion for collecting a myriad of magic spells, the pair embarks on a seemingly aimless journey, revisiting the places that the heroes of yore had visited. Along their travels, Frieren slowly confronts her regrets of missed opportunities to form deeper bonds with her now-deceased comrades.

This hits me so hard! Especially because I’m reading the manga about her adventures throughout the world, revisiting places she been to with her crew, and every place just has a hint of him. And it just makes me cry every time she remembers him 😭😭

SPOILERS! Right? Gosh how I felt when they found Himmel's journal about their daily shenanigans and how Freiren just let out a sad smile when she saw what Himmel had written about them. I'm so glad she got to keep the journal even though it was a request from someone else.

I bet Himmel's real reason for making all of those statues of himself is so that Frieren would have reminders of him long after his passing. She usually takes requests to clean up statues too

The fact that Himmel was in love with her for so many years yet he didn’t even try to confess because he knew that elves were nearly incapable of falling in love… therefore he was stuck w unrequited feelings. But little did he know that frieren would later realize that she would end up loving him.. aaaaa I really hope there would be a scene in the manga where she would get hit with the realization that himmel loved her so much during and even after their 10 adventure as members of the party of heroes 😭😭

No, Himmel didn’t confess, not because he was afraid of being rejected, because elves are improbable of love. He didn’t confess because he knew if Frieren fell in love with him, she would be much more devastated when he dies. And would continue to be devastated for thousands of years. To save her that pain, he decided his feelings would go unrequited. And I believe that Frieren is not in love with Himmel right now, or ever was. She considers him an important part of her life, but not a love interest. No, I’d love to ship them too. But that’s just not what I’m seeing in her demeanor. She feels for Himmel the same way she feels for Flamme. A feeling of deep respect and companionship, but not your Shakespearean love.

@@pumpkingamebox you’re right, what frieren is feeling rn for himmel is probably lightyears away from what himmel felt for her. and himmel didn’t bother confessing in fear of the pain that frieren might feel after he dies. (that already happened tho as she began to remember their journey haha) but from what i see i think there’s a distinct difference from what frieren feels for himmel and flamme. although it’s not as easy to determine that difference like how frieren didn’t cry when flamme died or anything- but i feel like frieren does feel something for him. yes, as an important person to her life, but love isn’t out of the question. if 10 years didn’t seem like a long time for her, and she had only realized the regret of not knowing anything about himmel after his death, then maybe she hasn’t realized her feelings for him yet. she probably can’t comprehend her feelings as fast as what humans can do considering their nature and the fact that she has never felt that close to anyone else except flamme :(( the purpose of her journey after defeating the demon king is to understand her companions and talk to himmel once more. to make up for the “mere 10 years” of traveling with the party wherein she didn’t even bother knowing himmel, she’s seemingly retracing the paths they traversed and their travels. the anime kinda revolves around the topic of longing and regret, and frieren perfectly encapsulates that right? i might just be forcing myself, like other people, to believe that frieren WILL eventually learn to love himmel. even if it’s too late. (this is js my own interpretation as well, but it’s never wrong to dream)

@@paofushi I think the community is forcing the ship. Because it's all too common. You know the shipping wars different fandoms have. Characters need only briefly appear in a scene together for them to become a thing for the fandom. This is reduced with Frieren audience, but I think we all somewhere are subconsciously influenced by the shipping we do in other shows/games. Hell, some people irl don't believe a man and a woman can be just friends, unless they're gay. A lot of conditioning is happening with these kinds of standards. I should have clarified about Flamme and Himmel. Yes, they're slightly different feelings. But Frieren's feelings about Himmel are definately closer to how she feels about Flamme in comparison to Fern x Strark, or any other ship we could see in the show. IMO opinion at least. There's also Kraft. I'm interested in what direction will they take his character. Since he's an elf, and a former hero who also knows what longing and regret is.

i really like 1:00 to 1:15 and how you used those moments. conceptually, i think the "my baby here on earth" section is really sweet, but the transition is a bit odd - id like if fern fit into frieren and himmel's story a bit more. ending on a smile is certainly a choice - and an admirable one.

No it’s not hate, I actually agree. I was going to originally since I know not many people prefer English dubs, but I didn’t think this would get as many views so I didn’t bother. I apologize for that.
