What made grime special is what hip hop missed imo. Grime at it's birth already had a mix of black, white & Asian mcs, producers, DJs. You name it. So in its core yes it's black british music but without taking anything away from the other, the British part of that is massive!!!! Pioneers from all backgrounds united by the areas we grew up in. White rappers in the US had to jump on bandwagon that's already moving & with the history of whitewashing music especially and denying it's roots, it's not hard to see how controversial it would be. Even to this day people argue whether Eminem should have been "welcomed to the culture"
