The clock choke. This devious little bottle neck is responsible for the most loss of consciousness in this sport. When applied correctly can be highly effective and dangerous. This is part of full Back attack and control series found on keenanonline.com/ being uploaded throughout this week. go sign up and learn from the American hero you never knew you needed. me.

Koshi Jime (hip strangle), for those interested in the traditional Japanese name. I think it's more seen in Judo, due to his rule set, and usually as a counter for Seoi Nage and other throws.

Late to this, but judo black belt for 30 years plus and did bjj for 5 years and it improved my judo ne waza immensely. In judo I would do a clock strangle on someone about once every month or so, it's a go to transition strangle from standing to ground. In my 5 years of bjj, not once did I use a clock strangle. I just don't think that the opportunity is there in bjj like in judo. It's no more effective at putting people to sleep than an other strangle, but in compétition, you don't let go of a strangle until the ref calls matte, and with a clock strangle it's very difficult for the ref to tell if they are out as they opponent is face down and sometimes obscured.

Rib problem is probably a slightly torn intercostal muscle (a long term but common problem in BJJ). I’ve re-torn mine performing a clock choke because of the way you can twist your torso in it. He actually needs to adjust the technique for this because it’s a serious injury. This is not a random cramp. He’s hurting himself even while doing it slow. Imagine doing it at full speed against full resistance.

I do a wrestlers knee tap once or twice like I’m trying to flatten them out then I reach for the collar. It works every time; knocked out a seasoned black belt with it. It’s a one arm clock choke. Elbow goes on back of opponents shoulder. Night night…..,

It would be even more great in these tutorials if you showed first the move you are about to teach. It is quite frustrating to follow several consequent movements without knowing where we're aiming at. I see this in a lot of other BJJ tutorials, too. Anyways, keep up the good (clock)work!

Well. two things -I have a problem watching anyone and translating it to my own body - I cant do it. (discalcula) And the other problem my memory is so bad that when i learn one technique I forget all the rest. Ive done arts that require a number of techniques before and after a year I can't remember a wrist lock! Then in stress testing there's no chance. Punching and kicking I can do. Grappling is just too complicated. It's for better equipped brains than me lol.
