The complexity of nature is stunning. The way the father frog knows how to defend its eggs and that it will defend many of them by itself shows the power of a parent's instinct to protect. And I especially love how the hatchlings (the oldest) can recognize danger quickly, even when they're still in eggs, and they are able to escape from the predators to the safety of the stream. It's just incredible. This goes to show that even the most simple-looking creatures are extremely complex and interesting organisms. I love nature.

Then again, this species evolved so that the babies an hatch when they’re still premature. They aren’t ready to hatch, but once they’re developed enough that doesn’t matter if they’re attacked. The premature tadpoles hatch early, and do just fine. It’s a pretty clever survival adaptation.

Take the pain of a wasp sting - noting that most wasps over a yellowjacket or common hornet have a sting pain index rating not of 2, but of 3, 3.5 or even *4* (same as the Bullet Ant), and note that we're several hundred thousand times the wasps body mass. Now imagine if we were 1.5 times the body mass of that wasp. Yeah. "Agony" probably doesn't even come close. "The source of all pain, torment that transcends the bounds of space and time and makes the suffering of Hell itself seem a mercy by comparison" is probably about it.

It's amazing to see the complexity and aliveness of such a little frog's life. We often think of animals as these simple creatures that just fumble around and blindly follow their instincts like robots. But this frog clearly shows insight in the situation and embodies various actions that ensure the best outcome, with a bit of luck. He decides to protect his youngest eggs because the old ones can potentially hatch early and survive. He uses his own body as a distraction. He kicks and punches the wasps away, even reaching behind his back, which is an abnormal movement. You can say "oh but that's just the evolutionary process". But do you look at yourself that way when you overcome a difficult challenge? "No need to congratulate me, that was just this thing called evolution, it got nothing to do with me".

it's the jungle man. you have to step correct 24/7. such an environment would foster such strong levels of competition for predation and survival. would be interesting to see how quickly those jungle animal species evolve over the years. highly specialized species
@dumupad3-da241
@dumupad3-da241 3 жыл бұрын
Everything he does can still be a blind instinct, and it most likely is. He doesn't have to *know* that his body is functioning as a distraction. He doesn't have to know *why* he is sitting where he's sitting, to realise what his body looks like to the wasps from above, which eggs are the youngest ones etc. He probably just has an urge to sit above the the highest batch, without knowing why. The kicking is a self-defence reflex. He certainly didn't invent all of these 'cunning strategies', and he didn't even learn them by observing other frogs. When I overcome a challenge, it's not the exact same challenge and I'm not overcoming it in the exact same way as every other member of my species for millions of years.
