Because they always prefer the original version. Not only for Notre Dame. In fact, Bruno Pelletier is unsubstitable, but Esmeralda was very good in 2017. I even prefer this version of Esmeralda than the first one. She's more emotional. Helene Segara didn't give so much emotion, she just had the favour to be the first one.

I don't like this emotional version of Frollo. I'm Russian, I already saw this kind of Frollo 20 years ago in our version. And then I loved Daniel more. For his Frollo was so much deeper. There was so much tension inside. Sorry. I love Daniel nevertheless.

You are absolutely right. There's nothing wrong with a more emotional Esmeralda. The problem is that she is truly a bad actress in this. I was truly disappointed because I really like her and her singing is always on point but her acting truly sucked. She overdoes everything, the screaming is exaggerated and sounds fake, she portrays zero sensuality or femininity even though she is more beautiful and younger than Helene. It loos like she hasn't understood her character. Her portrayal of Esmeralda is vulgar and her movements are almost animalistic. I mean 2.26 what the hell is that? The italian Esmeralda (the original cast, Lola Ponce) is the best for me. Her voice is surely much weaker than these two actresses', but her acting is amazing.

I actually prefer this Esmeralda because she's more emotional, the last one was in my opinion almost emotionless.

I mean she plays not good enough. Overplaying. While others could show such emotions better. Her way to show her suffering and surprising is too rude, too "straight" for an actress. It should be shown more professional. Just my opinion, keep calm😌😊🤗

It's not very nice of you to call her "damsel". She is the same actress as Helen. But she mustn't be the same Esmeralda. It's her uniqueness. And about the cast, I like previous cast better too, but this one isn't worse. I understand that it's your opinion, but have more respect for other actors, please)))

She shouts sometime and her vocals are heavy, especially when it comes to high note, Helene has different voice, bright and light, but I'm sure that Hiba does her best here.

She started her career as a musical theatre actress and singer in lebanon a d she's one of the best. You can say you don't like her portrayal of the character but please don't say she can't act. It's an insult

lily b Exactly why. When I learned she was going to be Esmeralda, I was so happy. I expected so much, cause she is an amazing singer. But in this role something is off. Perhaps it is the role, or perhaps she is not a singer for musical. When you watch Helene Segara you feel her as Esmeralda, even though her voice, to be honest, is much weaker. I don’t intend to insult anyone. Musicals are not for every one, no matter how good their sing or their voice is.

This is a m u s i c a l. She could have made it more like Esmeralda, tough, but beautiful. Not just full out ugly-keyed screaming. (e.g. Helene.)

I know it’s not as good as the original but we shouldn’t compare ;) The original cast is amazing, the second cast is very good, we should appreciate both of them for what they can do ^^

So appreciate screaming? screaming is not singing. I get she's supposed to act scared, but this was over the top. Plus, even Daniel sounds better than her and he's older. It's just sorta hard NOT to compare when this is earrape.

And why comparing them bc of their age ? They have different voices, Daniel has such a powerful and Amazing voice, he can easily play with his voice. Hadi has a different type of voice but still good. I can understand why u don't like it, in this video... it's a bit... yeah earrape. But what I like a little bit is that it sounds a little bit more "realistic" ( idk how to say it.. I hope u understood me ) because she's about to get rape and her voice is cracking of despair. idk.. it would be the only good point. But once again, irl it sounds way better
