Join Rabbi Burt Aaron Siegel in his first-hand fascinating account of a leading Reform Rabbi's tumultuous spiritual journey from the pulpit of a prominent Reform temple in the heart of New York City, through the Indian hub of Eastern religions, to his ultimate destination that brought the happiest years of his life upon discovering Chabad, the Rebbe and his true self.
This lecture took place at the 11th annual National Jewish Retreat. For more information and to register for the next retreat, visit: Jretreat.com.

I also came from a reform jewish background eventually to chabad. I am 73. What he says is so true. Its so good to hear someone express what i couldnt really explain, how he was guided to find the truth. I remember with shock realizing i couldnt trust food for kashrut brought by my reform teacher. I remember how strange it was with organ music in temple, and how we were taught to be ethical, but with no mention of G-d. I also felt i had come home when i came to chabad. I met the lubavitcher rebbe in person, and spoke with him many times and was there when the rebbe gave talks. But i know what this rabbi means when he says he feels the rebbe is here.

And I couldn't find spirituality at Reform synagogue...So I stopped going and started to study on my own. "When student are ready, teacher will come"...and good teaches came into my life, and one of them 3 years ago became my family.

I love this rabbi so much. Nothing touches my emotions more than when someone shares the yearning for Hashem that I have. His lifelong desire for Hashem is very moving. I look for the day when every Jew on earth will have the same desire along with the immediate coming of Mashiach.

Wow! Just got to the part where Rabbi Seigel discloses his age when he become Chabad and Fromm. He changed his whole life? I've had many thoughts of converting but always came to the conclusion that I am too old, not smart or disciplined enough, but if he was able to do all that, who knows? Perhaps. Just perhaps. Bizrat Ha Shem. Very inspiring story/life.

It is never too late my holy friend. No matter how old or how young. The gates of Mercy are always open to the one who directs their heart to HaShem completely and sincerely, and who yearns and burns for Him. If you are truly in love with HaShem and His Torah then before you leave this world you owe it to yourself to pursue this. See where it goes. Don't sell yourself short. You never know you could be the righteous convert that is needed to sustain the world. Find the courage the confidence the boldness to contact your local Orthodox rabbi and make it so. Home is now behind you... The World is ahead! May The Abishter grant you the chizuk to fufill the conversion process in your time, if that is what you feel on the inside. Ever forward, never backward. Shalom

You can! You can keep Shabbat, light candles, keep the festivals, contact your nearest Chabad rabbi and they will do everything they can to connect you to your heritage. There are still wonderful experiences to have 😊 Mazel tov!

Where / whom did you seek to confirm your Jewish Heritage. I may be in the same situation, but I only have steerage record from my grandmother who was orphaned by WW1. No others records found. Seeking the same, also older female, being drawn to Jewish Faith, because it feels like I have come home. Also feeling a little cheated, but keeping in my when grandparents came into Ellis Island, their past was left behind with their pain and suffering.

If you wanted to be orthodox then in the meantime you would not associate with reform at all. To disagree with me is to disagree with orthodox. Meaning you do not want orthodox

Amazing! I am a Conservative convert myself but also lean toward Chabad. Do you participate in Chabad's activities and Torah study where you live? Do you face any discrimination or bias since they would not consider you Halachically Jewish? I study Torah on my own and listen to a lot of Rabbinical (especially Chabad) lectures. I would like to get involved in a Chabad shul but am not ready to begin an orthodox conversion just yet, do you think I would be accepted? (Ps the reason I'm not ready to do a Halachik conversion yet is because I know this is a family life change and my husband, who was born Jewish, is not ready for that change just yet).
