This episode's guest is Johann Furmann from Berlin. What I love about his Salesforce Story is that he started as an Accidental Salesforce Admin and is now a Certified Technical Architect and has only relatively recently started learning to code on the platform in depth. He is living proof that you don't have to be a really incredible coder on the platform to become a Certified Architect. He works with clients across the world to help support and architect their salesforce implementations following industry standards and best practices and also now builds apps on the Salesforce platform to help Salesforce admins at AdminsHelper.com.
At Salesforce Posse, we interview influencers in the Salesforce ecosystem so that we can gain a better understanding of how to excel in a career path from a Salesforce Admin or Developer to an Architect.
Johann is one of a growing number of people that are freelancing and carving out a niche for themselves and working for clients across the globe. We talked about if Admins are Architects, Developing on the salesforce platform, and how he sees his role as an architect.

Catching up on old videos. So glad to find an 'accidental' admin who had gone on to go the full route. I've interviewed with some of these folks. And, sadly, they never go on and get any training or learn any best practices. They seem satisfied with the fact that the platform hasn't crashed. Unfortunately, this lack of training goes to on to be reflected when they're interviewing someone. I also liked the fact that he 'ignored' the champions. Many times in business, you need to talk to the end users, directly, not their bosses, who frequently don't know what they're doing at best or have a completely wrong idea of what really goes on in the day to day lives of their workers.

Absolutely, you've hit the nail on the head! A well-functioning Salesforce organisation thrives on continuous learning and best practices. "Accidental" admins can bring a unique perspective, but ongoing training is crucial for ensuring the system remains robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. I couldn't agree more about talking directly to end-users. They are the ones interacting with the platform on a daily basis, and their insights can be invaluable. Engaging with them can provide a more nuanced understanding of how to improve workflows or solve real-life problems-something that may not be immediately obvious when conversing solely with higher-ups. After all, a Salesforce system is only as good as the value it brings to its everyday users. TBH, the reason the champions were ignored was probably because we just never got around to talking about them. For me, they are a given in all Salesforce projects. How else can you can you actually run large Salesforce projects? Also, I don't know of any other Salesforce Admins that have become CTAs?. You may be talking more about Admins who call themselves Salesforce Architects but are not CTAs? In that case, YES, 100% agree... there are a lot of wannabe architects selling themselves as architects but are not.
