so carol was at her best in the black suit is what i'm getting? for real tho, THATS the carol / captain marvel that i know. when i only had a "oh right. that" kind of interest in comics, if that name was ever brought it up it was that appearance of her and from what i've gathered elsewhere, she did better in her smaller roles than all this PUSH in a manic attempt to make her a big focus. you can't force those kinds of things otherwise...you get this.

Carol was pretty much was character assassinated by both the comics and the actress who played her. I feel like they should have just did Monica and introduced Carol later on.

Man, the Billy's deaths in the alternate universes annoyed me. They're mostly done for shock values; and now, I can't stop thinking of the fact that both Superman and Wonderwoman killed him when they hang out together. Also, his death in Injustice was bullcrap. Captain Marvel canonically survived being inverted inside out by a laser and coming out fine, yet Superman's eye-rays were enough to melt his brain? They could have at least killed Shazam off in his depowered kid form like Wonderwoman did in Flashpoint.

Sad that Marvel doesn't know what to do with her. I think she's cool. Just a victim of bad writing.

The problem is that allot of comic readers are male and modern writers think the only way to write "Strong Female Characters" is to undermine the pre established male characters.

Even though dozens of heroes have used the name "Captain Marvel", to me Billy Batson will always the only one that I'll refer to by that name. It's mainly because I was introduced to him via Justice League Unlimited, and subsequent media such Brave and the Bold, Young Justice, Public Enemies, and The Return of Black Adam all referred to him as "Captain Marvel", so it's the name that stuck with me ever since and I still call him by that to this day. Plus, Shazam is just a dumb name for him because every time he introduces himself he always turns back into Billy and his secret identity is revealed.

I really liked carol danvers as ms. Marvel with the iconic black outfit, she was strong but feminine, was a great team player and fun to read about.

The biggest issue with Carol Danvers is that she was retconed to fit an agenda. It’s the same with the majority of the most beloved Marvel characters as well as their “new” characters: forced to fit the same agenda. Then comes the bad writing(or “ok but in the wrong genre” writing).

I liked Genis Vell. More for the "starry night" aesthetic and when he went crazy, than anything else. They did the twinned with Rick Jones with him too, if memory serves. It is a shame that to raise Carol's profile, they are throwing the legacy of the Vell family under the bus. Even going so far as to retcon Carol's origin to diminish Mar-Vell's role.

This was a nice summation. I notice most videos along this line tend to ignore all the other Captain Marvel's so it's good see more coverage for them.

I hope Ultimate Alliance 3 does something good with Carol, after the movie and comic run it may help salvage some goodwill

I want to like Carol as Captain Marvel but I hated her up until her miniseries The Life Of Captain Marvel where I started liking her. It was ruined immediately after with the first villain of her comic being a literal sexist that wants to put a baby in her for a strong heir

Ironically as a kid, I used to always call Captain Marvel (Billy), Shazam & now decades later, that's officially his name. I liked Monica as Capt. Marvel & it was the 1st time, as a kid, that I saw a black woman lead a hero team (followed by X-man, Storm). Carol was cool, back when she was Ms Marvel. I really don't like the character that much anymore.

Why did they have her take on Mar-Vell's star costume? It's one of my least favorite costumes of any superhero ever. Carol's Ms. Marvel outfit is pretty cool. It's simple, it's feminine, it's unique. Also, Kamala Khan's real name is 100 times cooler than her superhero name.

As I've said, making Carol Captain Marvel was a BIG mistake and replacing her with an identity represented Kamala Khan was just as bad. Kamala may have distanced herself from Carol but she's still badly written. I hope a retcon story has Carol still Ms. Marvel and she was captured and replaced by the Skrulls and Kamala dies attempting to save her. If Marvel can't do the name Captain Marvel justice then they're better off just letting DC reclaim the name. Billy Batson is the TRUE Captain Marvel after all. DC has Wonder Woman and Marvel has Wonder Man and yet they are two completely different characters; let DC have Captain Marvel and Marvel have Ms. Marvel.

Honestly after watching this video again I imagined a Marvel/DC Crossover where each company's 'Marvel Family' team up to stop a multiversal crisis and the culprit of the crisis is MF Enterprises Captain Marvel who's universe was destroyed by cosmic beings who took him prisoner, he managed to overthrow them with the aid of the other prisoners (likely other failed, obscure and forgotten characters), gains godlike power from overthrowing them and becoming aware of the 'Marvels' from both universes, despising them for being able to continue existing as super heroes and carrying a mantle he believes is his so he seeks to destroy them. I also imagined that since (as far as I am aware) the DC Marvels can share their powers and most Marvel...er..Marvels can absorb energy that they use these abilities to combine the entirety of their powers, fusing magic with power cosmic and destroying MF Captain Marvel. I know it sounds like a retarded story, especially since I have to make up a convoluted backstory for how MF Marvel can even pose a threat to the combined might of all the heroes but I do like the idea of all these call backs and recognizing the history of the name as well as having Marvel and DC heroes working together and having an awesome moment where they fuse their powers to become even more god like. I dunno, for some reason hearing about these obscure, stupid characters makes me think of story potentials for them and how they could be revived. I also have thought about stories for the Jojo rip off Diesel and recently learned of a crossover character that showed up in MK's Defenders of the Realm that I now want to see again. Maybe I am just weird.

One thing that sort of confuses me now with Shazam is: of that's also his hero name, if he saves someone and their like "Who are you?" How is he supposed to say his name without turning into Billy? I'm sure that in the comics there's been a few instances where he's had to refer to himself by name, and the explanation is probably something like "If he doesn't say it with the intention of transforming he's fine" but still...

If only Marvel Comics had obtained the license for Captain Marvel (the Character). With how poplar he used to be in the 40's he could've been the start of the MCU or something like that.

I actually really like the Carptain Marvel movie, but I do acknowledge that the biggest problem was that it seemed that a lot of the 'advertising' was how much controversy the movie and lead could drum up. Saw SHAZAM too, really liked both films, but in different ways.

Another video I watched that was discussing Carol speculates that Marvel isn't trying to make a female equivalent to Captain America, they are instead trying to make Carol their Wonder Woman since they don't really have a stand alone female hero like Wonder Woman, all their popular females are team heroes, Sue Storm, Storm, Jean Grey, Carol Danvers, etc. Honestly I could see that being the case though they aren't doing a very good job with it at all. Either way, with how progressive Marvel is trying and failing to be, I am surprised they ignored chance to use Monica and have yet another black super hero as well as a woman in a lead role. It seems like it'd be a wet dream for them and yet they went for the white version and just have Monica as a kid to look up to her instead of her dad who is nonexistent so they instead made her come from a stereotypical single mother household. I really don't know what Marvel actually wants to do with Captain Marvel, and I don't think Marvel does either.

Bad writing galore, character consistency is by far the worst it’s ever been and they completely destroy any potential that NRS created. I actually enjoyed and defended 9/X’s story mode, but this story is indefensible. I’m eagerly waiting for you to rip it to shreds.
