Your portrait painting looks absolutely stunning! Your mixed media approach is inspiring. This year is definitely going to be a bit of an experimental and mixed media period for me.

Thank you- I am going to try hot pressed paper for my portraits. I usually add colored pencil at the end of my watercolor process, so hopefully this will be a good fit! Maybe i will try adding in some acrylics too 😊

Love your work so much great details. What do use to lay over the watercolor to add oil paint? I saw 4 bottles and didn’t know which one is needed! You said fixative and gesso. I do have transparent gesso for oil but what fixative should I use underneath gesso? A watercolor UV fixative that I use to varnishing?

Very interesting so do I need Acrylic primer or Gesso or both for sealing water color + pencil drawing? To be able to add additional acrylic inks and or paints on top? And or can it be done without?!

Hi Lioba. Love your videos. May I ask, do you have experience with pastel pencils? I’ve used them extensively in the past and personally prefer them over colored pencils because they can be easily blended. Although the finish piece does not have the luminance of color pencil wax

which hot pressed paper is your favourite? i bought a big pad of fabriano artistico but i think i got a bad batch :( it made daniel smith paints look SO chalky and muddy on the first layer !
@LiobaBrueckner
@LiobaBrueckner Жыл бұрын
Aw no, not the bad batches! These are the worst! :((( My favourites are currently 2: Hahnemühle Collection (creates great watercolor abstractions but not great for building up layers, the paint lifts off too much) and Clairefontaine (Great layering abilty but doesn't create good abstractions) ! So no clear winner, Fabriano was the best 😭

And where do you think your mind comes up with your "original" Images? "There is nothing new in this world" Your brain puts together all you have ever seen in your life conscious and unconsciously, mashing them together for that "new original art"....have you never started drawing then realized it's too much like something you remember seeing. So then you have the choice to either copy it , or take parts that you like, combining them for something else. The honest artists choose the latter....So the programs "mind" has all these artworks as well. Same thing, combining for something else. She changes and combines to make something else. Same as your mind does. I honestly can't understand why this is not obvious to you haters. Miss Lioba is an amazing generous person sharing her wonderful projects & techniques with us so unselfishly. You really need to expand your knowledge expose yourself to more artists opinions & you will grow beyond this petty inaccurate "student" view which I had once upon a time until I realized what is scientifically validated & undoubtedly correct. Ask any neuroscientist. And take your hatin on our heroine to another spot because around here Miss Lioba is not to be derided. 😊

The image it generates uses copyrighted images without permission. It can't think of anything on its own. It's all copyright infringement. It's bad. It is also collecting her prompts.

How disappointing that your image concepts aren't your own. It seems you are just copying what the computer gave you instead of creating a well thought out concept like you used to. Also, AI image generators use databases of stolen artworks to synthetize images. So your artwork "ideas" are based on art theft. Sorry, I can't respect that.
@tabbi888
@tabbi888 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to say but hearing that you're using AI technology to formulate your ideas I've lost some respect for your artwork. Although your techniques and application is both beautiful and impeccable, it was the combinations of elements and the ideas that I used to really appreciate. Now that I know it's AI inspired it's definitely taken away from the magic of what we assumed was your own mind creating these images. I don't know if your aware that all the suggestions made by these AI programs are derived from artists whose work was input without their permission, this includes even your own work, and I'm sure noone has ever asked you if it's OK to take your ideas ,rearrange them slightly and suggest them to other people. The problem is not AI itself but how they acquired it's initial database for it to learn from. In some instances the AI has been known to change almost nothing even directly copying whole artworks without barely any edits, sometimes even including the artists signature. I personally will never use AI no matter how fast it may make the process until they fix the problem of authorised permission to use artists work, to me it's just unethical and just a fancy way of stealing others work. Even the makers of the programs have a disclaimer at the beginning when you sign up stating that using images created by AI maybe a breach of copyright and they take no responsibility how the user might use it. This is basically saying that if you publish an image created by the AI that is too similar to someone else's work it is the person publishing that can be sued not the company making the AI. Be careful how you use derived images it's only a matter of time before the law catches up. Funnily it could have all been solved by requiring permission before feeding into the database, but of course I'm sure alot of artists would have said no, so instead they just took and left it up to the user to take the fall, should a copyright claim be made. I'm sad to see your relying on this instead of your own creativity.

The process of developing ideas for art is different for every person. As someone who can’t distinctly and clearly create a picture in my mind, having a creative notion on which to build upon using multiple forms of art, photos, references does not make you any less of an artist. If you get this defensive of someone else’s artwork just because it’s not something you understand that is the exact opposite of what artists should do. Maybe you are fortunate in that you can creatively create every perfect image in your mind but each artist mind is different and requires different inspirations to create. I lost respect for your words through your judgment and non-understanding of somebody else ‘s creative process. Her multi use of everything to create artwork shows how versatile she is, so gatekeeping saying an artist is less than for using this new technology is just not OK. Artists have been taking others artwork and slightly or largely interpreting it in a different way Long before this. This is not stealing it’s the same concept through new eyes and inspiration from the original. this cancel culture gatekeeping mindset is very toxic and I know you mean the best for everyone but this type of judgment does not help anything. If that is how you choose to interpret art and these programs that is completely fine but you can’t expect everyone else to see art through your standard. I understand that you are looking out for the integrity of each artist and focusing on their legal patents on their art. It’s not all fair at all but instead of just demolishing the concept I think it’s more important for people to be open, use it, and improve upon the system. For instance, if tattoo artists weren’t allowed to use any type of reference whether AI, photos, or a combination of both we probably wouldn’t have some of the amazing artwork that we see today. It has changed drastically over the years and it keeps evolving and we have to adapt to the new creations and ways of creating art. If we never tried anything new after classical art then we wouldn’t have so many of the incredible pieces that exist today. I think you both could meet at a middle ground in how inspiration works. Personally I am grateful for every new stage of artistic development because it allows me to push myself further and become a better artist.

@@AleinWonderland it's not "gatekeeping" to be disappointed that an artist has no creative ideas and instead relies on a database of stolen artworks processed in a synthesizer. No matter how many buzzwords you use to, you won't hide the true issue. Stealing is not a "different approach to creativity", it's stealing.

As an artist, I totally agree with you. It's disheartening to see that even other artists are ok with using AI images, indirectly stealing other people's work. It's not a nice look
@tabbi888
@tabbi888 Жыл бұрын
@@AleinWonderland even a tattoo artist that uses photos for reference are limited to stock or free photos, any others you are supposed to pay the fee for using it. Just because they tend to take without discriminating between those which are ok and those that are wrong does not make it legally ok. As I already said I'm not against the technology itself but the fact it was taken without permission. Also when an artist uses usually multiple references it is re imagined by their own brain ,their brain acts as a filter to reinterpret the images. When you have AI do the filtering and interpreting for you that is just laziness, you don't need a mind that can picture things to reinterpret it yourself, that's a poor excuse, for a professional artist. Now if you're only doing it for fun you're free to do what you want including direct copying, but it is never alright for someone selling their art to do this. Also there are plenty of ways to explore and stretch your abilities ,how do you think artist did this before AI? Experimentation and hard work produced amazing works beyond the classics all imagined and interpreted by their own minds, not by a program spitting out elements of others work taken without permission. Sorry if you don't like this answer but art has been evolving well before this so called development.

@@tabbi888 we can agree to disagree but I will say you write with much grace and your responses are deep and kind so I appreciate your response greatly. I think my reaction to your original post is that I really struggle with creating images in my mind so using multiple references and combining them is the only way I am able to create drawings. I see what you’re saying though, But just know that some people aren’t able to have your creativity and don’t want to be considered less of an artist for that. If you have suggestions on how to boost mental imagery and creativity definitely share them!
