In this episode we finally get rid of the blocks and add a pier and beam system to our house. This was a BIG undertaking, but well worth the effort. I'll most likely upload a longer video detailing the entire process. Thanks for watching!

Nice job on the video! I would like to have seen more detail. Maybe some video of you actually sliding the beams under the house and how that was done. This is very helpful information though. I am going to be building a tiny home so I'm diligently researching, making sure I get my foundation solid before I start building. So I don't have to go back and change it later.

Thanks! Sorry for missing that part. I think by that point I was burned out. But, we did do as you said and just slide them across and onto the already bolted down strong tie. Good luck with your tiny home build! It's definitely a pain to go back and do projects like this so better to get it right the first time.

I just love how your fuzzy supervisors are in everything !! Saw another of your videos and your chicken was right in your fave the entire time. I love it ! OH... good iidea on the piers and beams. Next house do that first then put house.

They do like to be involved that's for sure. And yeah doing piers AFTER the house is in place is a huge pain! Lesson learned.

When the video started and saw the auger you was going too use , I was good luck! I had the same issue but I got me an 45 dollar post digger never fails. That post digger well put you in shape after 20 holes😆

Where did you get the beams? HD & Lowes are selling the bottom-of-the-barrel lumber, none of it is straight. Did you do anything to support the beams under the center of the house?

Good video!....thank you. We're those cinder blocks just sitting on a 4 or 6 inch solid block, and were those pads just sitting on the ground or were placed on a poured concrete footing? Thanks again...

How did you get the holes under the house? Did you lift it first?

I did have an auger, but since the holes need to be somewhat under the house I had to dig at an angle and then use hand tools to dig down straight to the right depth. Hope that helps!

How do you figure how many piers and what size your house needed? I plan to build a 600 sq ft Aframe.

I believe it is based on the size of the beam. If it is 2x8 then 8' is the maximum you can go. Similarly, if it is 2x10, you can go 10'. This is pretty much a rule of thumb. You can double the beam - sandwich 2x8 together, so it will look like a 4x8. If you did that, I believe you could go to 10'. Hope this helps. Span tables are available online as well.

I used all Bottle Jacks. They are pretty affordable and can lift an impressive amount of weight.

Could this work for a flood zone

I've read that pier and beam systems may actually be better in a flood zone. But it also depends on the climate and whether it's hot or cold. Pier and beam can be more expensive then a regular slab foundation too. Sorry I can't give you more detail!

Would you please tell me the type or model number of the bracket that you are using to attach the new beam to the pier? It seems a very efficient way to attach the beam, and keep the beam slightly above the cement to avoid rot. Thanks.

Thanks, and yeah I really regret not filming the whole process more thoroughly. It was pretty physical work, so later on in the process I put off any effort on filming. But, no excuses! Next time!
