Jesus man what a tree! Very nice to hear about the history of the species. I was very lucky to have one from a marina in Massa, it was pulled out of the ground with a literal crane. After hearing you say that they are hard to collect I feel very lucky. I hope to bring the tree to your intensive class one day.

I prefer Biccoca's work in which he follows the wood fibres, but its a really good work. The idea of the shari is just perfect. In this way I love the way you work sharis. While I understand that the aim is to attain a thick-trunked bonsai from a yamadori without years of training, I think this is always going to look like a stump with miniature branches. Taper can't be created entirely by artifice without it looking artificial.
