Each day hundreds of families arrive at the US-Mexico border to escape violence in their home countries.
Many are from Central America but a few come from as far away as Central Africa.
Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou-Castro reports from US state of Maryland, where she met two refugees from Cameroon, who told her why they had to flee.

When you find yourself a refugee it's always wise to go in a different direction than the masses. The well troden Road is full of dangers.

EU might be geographically closer for him x other refugees to travel to, but that route is very very dangerous.. from the Italian x Spanish gov supporting the Libyan gov in killing/ culling the refugees who try to cross over.. it's an extra violent hot mess. This route via the Americas isn't that popular because it's longer, so it's a wee bit safer.

For 400 years Amerikkka has had a maximum quota for how many blacks can enter the USA. While its had its door open for anyone from European countries - at one point blacks made up 50% of the US population, but after it opened doors for Europeans to come flooding in to Amerikkka, their numbers have dwindled to less than 15%. Its time Amerikkka allowed ALL the black immigrants that want to live in Amerikkka to move here.

The day blacks become a majority in America is the day it becomes a third world country.

@sneksnekitsasnek If you hate black people complaining so much, why don't YOU MOVE, there are plenty of Europeans that joking say they'd sell their mother and daughter into prostitution if it meant they could live in Amerikkka.

@@tobiisiba1641 America is already third world y’all crying about Federal unemployment benefits being cut off, you have numerous homeless Americans living in tent encampments and your homeless numbers are going to increase when eviction moratorium ends in September and you have major infrastructure failing!

It's amazing that he arrived in the US safely and I hope he has a good life moving forward but also wondering, why didn't he just go to Europe instead? Europe is geographically closer and instead of crossing and all it takes to go to Europe is just a boat ride from Libya or Tunisia, across the Mediterranean. I just feel that going to Europe instead of to America would have been faster and easier.

Ecuador cannot be the only country Cameroonian can travel to without needing a Visa. It’s mess up he was tortured by his country’s military. There’s opportunities in other African countries. Africans who have voting rights need to stop voting for Parties who’s promising are like air escaping from deflating balloon and vote for Presidential candidates who work will better the country and the economy and not just enrich their family and their party members pockets so the Cameroonian and other African diaspora from surrounding countries are not suffering hardships even as Internally Displace Person.
