They are definitely durable boogers lol the leaves are edible and chock full of vitamin c. Interesting citrus flavour, the younger leaves are good

Im using scoria in the mix with pumice and akadama. I prefer the soil dries quickly to prevent overwatering problems

Hi, I don’t have any to record, but I plant them deep in a tall pot so the branches sit on the side of the pot. Rocks can also be placed on the soil surface. Or bamboo canes can be used horizontally tied to the pot to support the trunk. Also pruning some branches so it is less top-heavy. I’ll try to find a cutting to demonstrate, even if it isn’t very big I will show the techniques

Portulacaria afra root very easily from any thickness cutting as long as the stem isn’t wet enough to rot before roots grow. Most other species of plant are not that easy

I’m using a pretty big unit from Mars hydro - FC4800 480w. The power means I can set it higher up for good coverage as I have quite a lot of plants. You only need a light if you can’t put them outdoors in summer and/or you want year-round growth. But oh boy do they grow well under powerful LED!

Trimming the branches was as much about taking weight from the top so it was more stable. The ideal pot size is based on how many roots there are - too big and the roots have too much soil which stays cold and wet longer. Too small and we’d have to cut so many roots that the tree will take longer to recover and potentially need watering too frequently. Equally aesthetics are important, and there are some guidelines as a starting point. When the pot width is approx two-thirds the height of the tree, and pot depth is approx equal to the thickness of the trunk, the composition often looks well proportioned for the bonsai aesthetic. These aren’t hard rules, just a starting point for decisions

I’ve never noticed a difference either way, just keep it dry until new growth is visible or until the foliage plumps up

I've been growing Crassula bonsai in South Africa for over 10 years. I personally always let the cuttings dry out (callus)for a few days.
