This version, “Dixie, with love” mixes and alternates between the Battle Hymn of the Republic, which was the union (north) battle song, and the south’s song, Dixie, symbolizing how the country eventually came back together. This is crucial context to tell people who think that the band is only playing Dixie here.

Go to South Carolina.. from Connecticut. As someone from one of the most liberal states in America it truly disgusts me that ppl especially ppl up north want to tear down your beautiful traditions. Anyone who thinks this song or Dixie’s Land represents Slavery is dead wrong and even if they do think so it is ridiculous that they feel the need to enforce their stupid rules on your beloved tradition. Southerners should be allowed to express love for their heritage and ancestors as well as where they’re from without anyone bothering them

I would just like to chime in. I'm a liberal and a Georgia Tech fan and soon to be student hopefully. I think they should unban it for the same reason I think they should bring back Chief Illiniwek at Illinois. There are thousands of universities and colleges, hundreds in each state. If you don't like the atmosphere at one, go elsewhere. This isn't a liberal thing. This is a "I can't control my emotions, so everyone control them for me" thing. I've seen conservatives do the same thing. Come in and try to change every little thing to make it fit their idea of what it should be. Mississippi is stuck in the past? Well that's their choice as Americans. Fascism is bad from either wing, left or right.

You might want to listen to "Dixie" and "From Dixie with Love". These are two different songs, I played them both. Similar, but different in their own special way. It's despicable that Dan Jones bows to the ghosts of the past instead of rebranding them. Had Jones embraced the chant of the South will rise again during "with Love" and said it will indeed rise again just economically, culturally, socially, he could have helped usher in a new era at Ole Miss and for Mississippi.

Can you see the pride that was felt among the fans as well as the absence of hate? The young lady wanting to stand is the natural reaction when listening to Dixie. Northern politicians and bureaucrats have been waiting a long time to take that away from the South. They needed just one excuse and one insider with authority to bring it down once and for all and they couldn't be more delighted that it's done. They've done their best to strip their pride and left them with a goofy land shark. Well guess what baby, they're still Rebels.

Why bring flags confederate flags to the games? Why bring United States flags to the games? There's no reason for that. I was simply saying there is no need to get rid of a classic American song that represents an important part of history from our past. Dixie is a popular American song that even Abraham Lincoln himself liked. There is nothing racist, or even remotely close to being considered racist or prejudiced about the song. As a Florida fan looking at Ole Miss and the history of the south, it's disgraceful to make the band stop playing such a beautiful piece of music that represents ole miss and American/southern history.

I understand the strong history of slavery and the struggle of the African American man and I am very liberal politically but I just wish the confederate flag and dixie weren't used as such symbols of hate because the US flag is also used at racist rallies and such and the US flag flew for slavery for over 100 years before the confederate flag did and back then both sides didn't care at all about the slaves or black people in general so its not fair to just make the south look bad

People don’t understand that while the confederacy was intent on preserving slavery, the typical southerner/soldiers were impoverished farmers who didn’t own slaves. The coming men were mainly concerned with the fact that the north was coming in to invade- and sometimes that included them burning your crops, home and community. There were crimes and rapes that would happen on both sides when invading. Let southerners revere their loved ones and positive aspects of their history- while also understanding that their reliance on slavery was evil and did their souls and economy more harm than good. This nation was built by rebels!

@HectorEscobar: The New York Yankees are "Yankees" because they play in the American League, and because the New York newspaper editors preferred to write "Yanks" in their headlines rather than "Highlanders" to save characters. The Civil War has nothing to do with it.

@tgrfan42069 Im a Tiger too. This has always been on my iPod. Its sad they got raped by the NCAA twice. Once with the song and then with the removal of Colonel Reb. Im surprised they havnt come after us and LSU since Tiger Rag was mde famous by Dixieland Jazz Band and is from the musical genre of Dixieland. I feel like if you mention the South today, then you are condemned by the 'PC' Police. Go Tigers

I'm a northener and a Ducks fan, but beautiful song. Shame these liberal maniacs up here try to ruin historical culture like in the south.

Funny how much liberal bashing is going on here, when there's plenty of liberals who enjoy the song. You don't have to have a political agenda to like a song.

It’s the liberals who caused this shit. They don’t get to enjoy the song
