Don't forget, captain Hung Cao is a Vietnamese-born American retired Navy captain. He is running for a U.S. senator in virginia. Cao was born in Vietnam and came to the United States as a refugee in 1975. Following graduation from the Naval Academy in 1996, Cao served 25 years as a naval officer. Trained in the Navy's Special Operations program, he salvaged planes and ships around the world from 1997 to 2013. As operations officer on the USS Grasp, he oversaw the naval recovery operation following the John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash and dove to rig up the plane for retrieval. He made multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia defusing bombs and conducting special operations missions. As a Navy commander, he commanded the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center from 2013 to 2016. He was promoted to captain in 2018. Before his retirement in 2021.

I have an electrical engineering degree and I almost joined the army as well as a geospatial engineer then be an officer. They were my plans. The recruiter even booked my departure date and which fort. I was so excited and I was filled with joys. Got 93 points on the ASVAB and passed the physical exam without needing a single waiver. I was even complimented by the female physician for passing it perfectly. She was like wow you passed it perfectly. I still have ~$9000 in student loans.

I’m a Vietnam combat veteran, 101st Airborne Division, 2/501st Infantry Battalion 11-Bravo MOS. I DID TWO TOURS. returned and got out in 1972. In 1979 my church pastor put out a desperate request for someone who would sponsor a family of Chinese people who had escaped persecution in Soc Trang Vietnam . They were suppliers of Shell gasoline to the U.S. military. They were rounded up and robbed of everything! In exchange for a chance at escaping at sea in the middle of the night on a leaking shrimp boat. The motor broke down half the way there. They were robbed by Thailand, pirates twice. These poor people were sick, and the elderly had passed away shortly after the journey began they were drifting, and as luck would have it a Coast Guard boat from Malaysia, or Indonesia saw them sinking, and rushed to their aid, just as their old boat fell apart in the water. Altogether there was 13 in the family. This included one girl who was pregnant and her husband, who was sick with Malaysia. Remember, this was a very affluent family, who owned a large Chinese gold store as well as shell or distributorship by the time they were put on the giant Coast Guard ship, The raggedy, old, shrimp boat turned upside down and sank. They were in that refugee camp for two whole years. They wanted to stay together as one family but they could not find anyone who would take 13 people all at once from the same family. I went to church one day with my girlfriend, my live-in girlfriend 🎉 and the pastor of Grace community Church was very moved because he had just returned from visiting that refugee camp that our church was also financially sponsoring. He begged all 3000 about to find a way to get that family out of that refugee camp and to Tempe Arizona. No one raise their hand several people offered checks but The refugee committee from the United Nations have decided they have been there long enough and they were going to split them up into three destinations whether they liked it or not. Some were going to Australia some going to Canada and the rest going to the USA. So I guess that’s the way it’s going to be ! said the Pastor. He finished the sermon and left. I went around to his office to try to catch him before he went home. He knew me well and I called him and I told him I want to bring the whole damn bunch here to Tempe. He turned around and looked at me and said, are you sure about that? I said, that’s why I’m standing here guy! There were so many. Stupid old ladies, who were trying to disqualify me because of my age 25, because of this because of that because I have two cats? Because I have a two bedroom condo? But guy Davidson said that all the material things would be taken care of. No problem with that. We need someone to be the maestro here and take care of these people and by the way, I speak fluent Vietnamese. This church back show many years ago was a financial powerhouse and supported missions and ministries around the world. In no time at all, we have a four bedroom house, furnished with a pair of old cars in the driveway as gifts to these people. In June 1980 they arrived on a flight from Malaysia by way of Hong Kong, and then San Jose, California and then Phoenix. They were happy to be together! Everything worked out fine. From that group in 1980 there are almost 100 descendants there are medical doctors there is an attorney liquor store owners restaurant on earth a master of social work several registered nurses a couple of real estate developers. I don’t know how in the hell you can show up here and this country with $900 and in 40 years later, have a net corporate worth of 14 million having no loans! I did loan them a few thousand to rescue and refurbish a Chinese restaurant and then some people from the church put up a few hundred thousand for a liquor license. No interest loan in no time at all those obligations were paid back and Katie bar the door from then. These people are not Vietnamese! They are ethnic Chinese living in Vietnam. It’s hard to describe to you what I mean but you have to talk to a Chinese boat person to understand what the difference is.
