On a rare week day off, I take a trip to the seaside to a glorious beach at Holkham in North Norfolk, and round the corner to Wells. My goal was to try an shoot the dunes in golden hour at sunset which didn't happen but I got some very dramatic skies which actually produced some interesting images instead

The only reason I can see for going to Norfolk is to look across the Wash and get a different view of my beloved Lincolnshire Fens!!!!! I'm joking of course, another great vlog and within driving distance. Loved the image at 13.35!

HaHa, I would have put money on your comment telling me to keep it the real in the Fens! Cheers mate. Was happy with the final edit on that image

That last image was a belter mate. 👍 For what my opinion is worth, I think you should venture out of the Fens as and when you feel like it and don’t let your early decisions hold you back in moving forward. Take care brother 👍

Cheers buddy - you’re right and I’m really enjoying going a little further afield but still keeping within an hour or so from the Fens works well. Having said that I’m in Jersey in next weeks vlog 😂. I like that final image too, cheers bro 👍

Thanks Jon. I spent a lot of my youth around this area of Norfolk and it’s great now to be able to go back to capture it in camera. I think focusing on the East rather than confining myself to just the Fens is the answer. Thanks for watching mate

Wow! Those beach hut shots with that sky are ace. On your question of what your viewers want, surely it's all about what you want? If people like what you are doing they will follow. At the end of the day who are you going out for, yourself or to please your viewers?
@JamieOverland
@JamieOverland Жыл бұрын
Thanks Sid, and I’ve come to accept that now. It’s something that many content creators struggle with, is are doing this for you or your audience. If it’s only you, then why bother to put it on YT. I decided last year that I would visit places that were appealing to me locally when I had the opportunity and not put pressure on myself to keep feeding the channel. I should have another video out in the next couple of weeks!

@@JamieOverland Like you I enjoy getting out and taking photos. It gives me a purpose to get some exercise and feeds my need to create something. Vlogging the experience is also both a creative process and way of recording the experiences of different places and different weathers etc. I think the two go hand in glove but then I'm not concerned with fame, fortune or any of that stuff it's just a laugh. One thing I do know is that if you get too carried away with it your bank balance will be quickly depleted! I guess the moral is "Don't give up the day job" just enjoy it for yourself.

Oh and the public are fickle creatures (I include myself) and can easily get bored with you and move along to a different channel so as the Nike advert says ... Just do it! but for your own pleasure and enjoyment.

I think with the fens, it really is a case of really having the perfect conditions for images, and when the conditions are perfect, those moments are all too fleeting. When i drive through the fens early morning, with low lying mist creating small waves above the earth, with the sun breaking the horizon in the distance, there is nothing more magical than that! But it is a difficult landscape to capture, barren, often bleak and isolated. East Anglia however, is diverse and full of potential =)
@JamieOverland
@JamieOverland 5 жыл бұрын
You’re spot on Alexandra. Those conditions really show the character of the Fens off well. From a vlogging perspective it’s difficult to be in the right place all the time and tell a story. I really appreciate you’re feedback

I'm absolutely with someone keeping it local, for me local is somewhere I can get back from for tea (dinner). I wouldn't class Norfolk as being un-local from the fens. I'd be less interested if you started doing 300 mile round trips on a regular basis, just to shoot places that almost every vlogger has done a video from. If you were doing a long excursion I think it should have a reason other than photography to be there, on holiday, work, your Aunt Mabel died and you have to go to the funeral in Prestatyn. Just going the rounds to photograph the honeypot sites on someone else's patch is a bit like Pokemon hunting on a phone. Everywhere has great sites, picking up a guide book and copying the shots does nothing for me as a photographer. Looking at a map and and seeing a formation of hills or rivers I can go explore is what keeps it alive, with a sneaky look at Google Earth as well. Go on, I dare you to describe Holkham as bleak or desolate. It looks like Hushinish beach on Harris, just without the mountains in the background.

I’m loving your comments mate! I was with you at the dinner (tea) bit...I always call it tea and my kids correct me...bloody snowflakes! I was pleased with the final shots of the dunes actually. There’s so much you can do with these in the right light
