We found a discarded wooden side table next to a skip outside our workshop. Instead of letting it go to waste, we thought we'd try our hand at upcycling it by giving it a bit of a makeover. We refinished the outside of the table and added a brand-new top made from 100% recycled plastic. Since we were feeling fancy, we also added wireless phone charging functionality. We are pretty confident that this little table would fit nicely inside a modern home. We literally turned trash into treasure! 👆

This shows you how much energy is needed to turn plastic into something useful again (recycling), man hours, tools, money etc. So I'm trying to say that we need to focus and make recycling more affordable!

catalinb It would make more sense to start from the top down. Government needs to implement strict laws to stop allowing manufacturers from making products with a deliberate expiry date. They made refrigerators in the 50's that are still functioning today, so we know it can easily be done. Retailers need to NOT be permitted to load the dumpsters with brand new goods. These are two simple things that would have an IMMENSE impact.

Both opinions on this comment are hopelessly affected by the "in groups" they belong to without actual contemplation for themselves: Clearly the affect humans are having on this planet is detrimental and unsustainable, so the question of "what's wrong with landfills" is a ridiculous, self centered, and near sociopathic attitude to adopt... Yet mindless belief that anything labeled "green", "organic", "renewable" or "recycled" is beneficial for the globe and future of is and other species which inhabit it is JUST as misguided. If you want to ACTUALLY improve outcomes (as you seem to suggest is crucial), then you need to be WAY more involved and honest in LONG TERM calculations of waste and energy consumption. ***Is making this into a dumb side table REALLY keeping it from a landfill? We need to plan over CENTURIES, not years, so if it's used for a couple years then thrown out anyway, absolutely nothing was accomplished (except pretending your self serving beliefs were for the sake of the world). Think harder. Give your "opinions" the respect of contemplation. ( or they're not opinions, they're just 🧠 washing that youre regurgitating )

@@MichelleJ1822 Well the problem is neither people nor them throwing it into waste. The problem is capitalism and plastic being cheap crap to be able to make more profit than with more enviromental friendly packaging. Heck over half of the products wouldnt even need a packaging in the first place.

This is Poly Ethylene. It is cleaner burring than propane. It is safe to burn indoors, it is commonly mixed with paraffin to make candle waxes and burns cleaner than the wax. It's so safe, they put your food in it. Poly Styrene and Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) on the other hand, those are made out of mustard gas and the fumes will kill you if you look at them wrong.

I think you should put some sort of resin on top of that to fill in the mini holes and make it more shiny so that it will mimic a marbled stone top as well as to make it more durable and non-porous just in case a condensation from a cold drink didn’t sipped in those tiny cracks and might create molds or wearing down those mag safe charger. Over all, it looks sooo good! Might I suggest to carve the wooden stand more like creating some sort of fancy curves and sideway S’s pattern to make it more fancy.
