I love that he explains his process "in case we don't take another one today", such a big difference from the usual street photography stuff we've seen on this channel

What GREAT interviewing, Paulie! You let Dustin tell his own story and don't get in the way. The sound quality is excellent. The cuts are great. Nice job! Keep them coming.

Large format is such a mindf-ck relative to 35mm street approaches., I've been shooting 4x5 for a few months while the Leica collects dust. Well worth doing occasionally for any street photographers!

I shot on an 8X10 in and around 1990 (gave it up around the time I got divorced in '92) and had the exact same lens. Shooting one sheet of Ektachrome, including developing, was about $22 Canadian. Great stuff, and thanks for dredging up some memories.

I love photography I shoot too but more as a hobby (after I learned to develop and do it professionally back in the analogue days). It always seems to me as such a hard profession, like many arts but this one especially, so much suffering and work to get something decent, especially if you also want it to be artistically meaningful. But what a beautiful channel great.

I haven't got much to say that hasn't been said already but I want more and more of these so I'm commenting so the algorithm can do its thing. This is excellent, as always, Paulie. The quality of large format is exceptional but I'd be too self-conscious to carry a large-format camera and couldn't afford the film prices anyway. I, too, would be crippled by indecision about what to make images of.

I normally hate asking gear questions but I want to know what that bag and tripod is, I have such a hard time carrying my 8x10 camera around in anything but a gigantic wheeled case which slows it down a ton. *edit* freeze frame says it's a Leofoto Summit LM-324CL with what looks like a Luland LD115 head on it. Still not sure about the bag.
@dustinroderick5 ай бұрын
Which bag? The holders are in a stone photo gear bag and the camera is in a compagnon backpack. The tripod and head you got right!
@iNerdier5 ай бұрын
@roderickcompagnon is a new one to me, I'll look them up. Everything I've found bar an f-stop 50l or an evoc 35l bag isn't wide enough for my Toyo and both are expensive. Is it bad I just have my holders in a plastic shopping bag 90% of the time?
@dustinroderick5 ай бұрын
@@iNerdier Shopping bag is Wiiiiild. But whatever's clever 🤷♂. Im not sure how big the Toyo is, but the compagnon just barely fits the Chamonix. those f64 bags would probably fit it, but are Verrry large.
@iNerdier5 ай бұрын
@@dustinroderick380 x 150 x 355mm. It's always the width which isn't enough with bags. Currently I have one that just barely fits but not with lenses, let alone film holders. F64 ones would fit but yeah they're comically huge and apparently not very comfortable for longer trips. Thanks for the info and vid too!

I watched a previous Walkie Talkie about another street photographer who walked around NYC with a large format camera and found it a bit annoying and gimmicky. Maybe unfairly, I felt the photographer was doing it to grab attention to himself that his pictures did not necessarily merit, but this guys pictures are really beautiful and whether it is the process, or specify quality of the prints the process producers, (probably a bit of both), the obvious challenges of humping round a big ass camera are in this case worth while.

The camera becomes a conversation piece and makes it easier for the photographer to get subjects to say yes to posing. I can get more portraits with my Rollieflex than I can with my Fuji Xt4.
