Dear @Happycatholic389, seems to me you did just right! Staying in your granddaughter's life is more important than trying to fill her head with the Truth of the Catholic faith it seems to me. I did not always feel this way. I have made plenty of mistakes, trying to be the one who converts others, when God Himself is the One -- the only One -- Who grants the grace of conversion. The best we can do is to accompany those we love and be there when they are open to hearing our words. And what we who are farther away will do is to pray for you and your family!

@@Call_Upon_YAHI have to tell you the Catholic mass PRE DATES THE BIBLE. The apostolic fathers had the mass before the Gospels were even in existence. You have to know this. Early Catholic Bishops and priests in council with early Christian communities decided on the actual CANON OF the Bible. And we do NOT worship saints or Mary we venerate them- there is a difference

Yes but intellectual sins exist. Curiosity for it’s own sake, especially with matters against faith and morals, is a sin even if it’s just learning about it. Similarly, spending your time trying to understand complex theology when you haven’t read the catechism or don’t have a daily prayer routine could be a sin.

True curiosity for it's own sake, devoid of motives and objective reasoning is something only the mind of perhaps a toddler might achieve and therefor not a sin. If curiosity is tied to motivations that deliberately go against faith and morals then it would by definition not be for "it's own sake" and therefor sinful. Learning how to cause harm with a malintent is of course as sin. Learning how harm is caused to avoid it or to protect those in harms way is not a sin. The second part gets back to intent and motive. People are lead to God in different ways. Many atheists and protestants start with higher form theology long before getting near the catechism or developing a daily prayer or scripture routine. This is not sinful. However, if someone is learning how to defeat a high level theological argument without the desire to grow closer to God, or to will the good of the other, then yes this is probably sinful behavior.

On the other hand: “Am I not able to write to you about heavenly things? Yet I am afraid to do so lest, being infants, I should harm you. Yet allow me this, as otherwise you might choke, being unable to swallow. Yeah I always had a lot of empathy for Mormons in the south. Catholics get their fair share of hate down here that’s for sure!

While I appreciate that sentiment, I also think it is inconsistent with believing that our faith is an abomination. I am very discouraged by how two-faced Mormonism is on this matter.

@@benabaxter I think there is a difference in believing that some of the doctrines of the faith are an abomination v. the faith as a whole (including the believers). Mormonism does not posit that the entire faith is an abomination, but rather the creeds and some doctrine as ratified by early councils. I would say that every religion or denomination thinks that the teachings of others are abominable, or else we would not have the differences. Other organizations may just use softer language in describing the difference. I'm sorry if you ever felt hated or like an abomination from my religion. You are not, nor are the rest of the faithful Christians out there. If our desire to understand and work with other faiths seems two-faced, then I'll take that smear any day and still work with you so long as neither of us succumb to the captivity of secular leftist evil.

The difference is the key word I used . . . "Foundation". It is the claims the LDS Church makes regarding its foundation of the Mormon Church that cause me to believe that it is false.

While LDS are great people, and I have only had good experiences with them, they are not Christians as they don't follow the Nicene Creed and don't really believe in the Trinity (alongside their acknowledgement of multiple Gods and God the father being contingent).

In fact, Iranaeus says “The blessed apostles, then, *having founded and built up the Church, committed into the hands of Linus the office of the episcopate.”* (Against Heresies 3 chapter 3) Or after the apostles set up the Church area, the first Bishop was Linus, not Peter. So where do you get that Peter was the Bishop of Rome? Where does it say that Linus or even the Bishop of Rome was supposed to secede Peter as leader? Linus was bishop of Rome from 67 AD until his death in 76 AD and John the apostle is said to have died between 89 - 120 AD, why would the leadership not have fallen to one of Jesus’s apostles? Andrew and Thomas are said to have been alive as well during that time. Also, Peter is also supposed to have founded the Church at Antioch and Corinth, so why does the Bishop of Rome get to be the leader when 2 other Churches have the same claim of authority? And the Church at Antioch was founded in 34 AD while Rome was founded in 42 AD so it doesn’t even have an seniority position which makes the claim of Rome even weaker. _"You will quickly find that Mormonism is a mish mash of different heresies"_ This is just an ambiguous statement. Havent you head of Padre Luis Torro ? He has 1.5 million subs and has debated possibly hundreds of anti Catholic Pastors ,literally all Latinos . Thru his Ministry ,many Catholics who have become Evangelicals have already returned to the faith. Some of them were pastors .

I agree many on the Hispanic community are not exercising their religion and are causing conflicts and confusion on what it means to live and be part of their faith. It needs to be addressed if not many will turn to non Christian reasonings for life.

I hear you ! Daughter of Hispanic immigrants being 1st generation American , my parents were living the American dream . Providing us a life they never had but didn’t prioritize our souls & hearts to Christ’s Church. Now as adults , we must decide to be Catholic or not . Personally, I floated around from religion to another one. I know Catholicism is true✝️& have been back home from doing my own research as well as God touching my heart . I have a family of my own now and I have committed to make a difference with my own children . It all starts at home . Every Sundays , every Catholic holiday is always an effort to make it fun , special and meaningful in Christ . God’s always first , sports , activities , etc are last. Who has opened my eyes is Padre Jose Arturo Lopez Cornejo. His YT channel is amazing ! God bless !

I also want to add, that this is the first LDS conversion conversation I've heard that is balanced and intentionally honest about strengths, weaknesses, and "things that sound weird to outsiders" as regards both LDS and Catholic beliefs. Beautifully navigated Matt and Stephen!

That’s a myth actually. I think a couple Mormon apostles speculated such during the height of polygamy 150 years back, but the was never taught or sustained by the church. Latter-day Saint doctrine is very clear that God the Father is monogamously married to Heavenly Mother.

Don't Catholics believe nuns are the brides of Christ? St. Terese plans her wedding to Christ and calls him her groom. I'm Catholic, but I guess I'm confused how we don't also believe this, at least on some level.

Stephan is very misleading. He doesn't know his church history or who Joseph Smith really was, but if he finds peace in the Catholic church all the power to him.

Mormons used to be unbeatable in that but as they've caved to mainstream political and cultural pressure they have lost A TON of their "it's us against the world and we support each other no matter what" culture that they used to have. I left Mormonism last year and never felt accepted even after decades of trying and getting nowhere

LDS's greatest achievement was the Mountain Meadows Massacre, reaching the highest echelons of the organization. It's hard to believe that Brigham Young wasn't involved in instigating this horrific event.
