Patrick Adriarte is a Filipino-American, who appeared in Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, and Flower Drum Song. He was also a regular singer and dancer on Hulabaloo. Mr. Adriarte appeared as a regular cast member during the early days of M*A*S*H portraying the character of Ho-Jon. He was an extremely talented dancer which is why, I’m sure, he was selected by the great Gene Kelly as a dance peer. Mr. Kelly knew true dancing talent when he saw it.

@@jandamato3894 Yes, Patrick Adiarte was very noticeable on Hullabaloo as along with being able to dance any style he was the most energetic of all the dancers on the show. It must have been a challenge to learn several new dance routines every week for a TV show.

Mr. Adiarte TRULY stood out in 'Flower Drum Song'. I remember seeing the film version for the first time, maybe, 32 years ago. In all honesty, I decided to finally watch the production, largely due to the title, itself, but also because I learned that the lovely Nancy Kwan also starred in the production --- as well as the late, Jack Soo. However, when watching an unexpected dance scene where Patrick is featured, I was like: "Wow! Look at this 'kid' dance! Such beautiful and flowing technique! I sincerely feel -- like MANY fine AAPI dancers/artists-- he was cheated out of many a roles that would've featured his overall talent, but especially his dance abilities. Very talented gentleman, indeed. Thanks for this rare footage.

Mr. Adiarte also stood out as one of the Hullabaloo dancers in the weekly TV show "Hullabaloo" for two years. I remember he also sang on Hullabaloo to promote his latest pop record.

Absolutely! I remember saying to someone when watching Flower Drum Song on DVD, "Could I have two more hours of this guy??" Not that the rest of the movie isn't terrific, one of my favorites now. Imagine the career Adiarte might have had in the golden age of musicals. Maybe he would have been treated badly by the studios because he is Asian? Hard to know. I really wish he had done more movies; I think he made a career as a dance teacher?

@@jackjules7552 Was that like another American Bandstand? I'm not familiar with that show?

@@girlfromthebronxbywayofelb7288 Hullabaloo was a big budget (most often in color) show which featured the top singers on the charts singing their hits as well as other people's hits. The show was backed by incredible professional dancers and had a different host every week. A live band/orchestra was there to back up the singers. Unlike American Bandstand all the singers sang their hits live on Hullabaloo with few exceptions. It was quite an exciting show and was on the air from Jan. 1965 through August 1966.
