You taught me a few new tricks. I have never considered aluminum tape on the corners of barn tin. As you were screwing on the first piece of siding next to the door opening I was screaming at my phone "No! Slip the J channel in first!" But then I saw the jamb extensions and blocking between the ribs. It's a cleaner look, I must admit. The gable roof edge is a difficult shape to trim. While I have a few ideas of how I would do it slightly differently, I can't honestly say I could do it better. No matter what, that's a hard profile to work with. Adding a ridge vent would be my only constructive suggestion. My dad, who passed a few years ago was a carpenter. I remember helping him after school growing up. In the late 90's, we installed countless deadbolts. Most homes did not have them at that time, but homeowners were willing to pay a carpenter to come and drill out their front doors. Dad got started in carpentry prior to prehung doors being a thing. His weyerhauser lock installation kit dates back to the early 1960's. A wooden box, felt lined, with brass hardware. The jig inside, paired with a modern hole saw for the today's steel doors, could drill a door in a minute or two. Easy money. On the ride home- in his beat up old pick-up, he would always say the same thing to me, "locks keep honest people honest."

Thank you for your comment. The ridge cap was installed in a way to provide ventilation through the gap in the pitch of the roof. I believe you can see light when I pan up with the camera from inside the tractor barn. Here is the link to the complete build of the unit kzfaq.info/sun/PLnyHBYU1MZ55hHmME-wTyliFf_mHMNTD6

Thank you very much for sharing this video. I have been trying to come up with something like this forever. I have a lot of products stored in my backyard with tarps covering the boxes. I could not afford the real warehouse after my son passed away by suicide, I am a widow trying to hang on to the business, but I could not sustain myself with wages and a commercial lease. I closed the biz and brought everything to my backyard. I have 140 pallets full of components and machines. Watching your video, I think I can salvage a lot of my goods and I hope for a chance to be able to do some production from home. Thank you again, this video gives me hope and I am sure someone can build 4 or 5 of these for me then I will be so grateful. I need to protect my goods from dust, moisture, and rain. I am so excited. Looking for a handyman to help me now. I am ordering 5 car ports after watching your video..each one is 12x20ft. Wish me luck 🤞🤞

@BriteImpressions1
@BriteImpressions1 Жыл бұрын
@@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 the metal building is very expensive. I looked into one 30x40 the costs were around $40k dollars. I bought 5 carports for around $2500.00 and I will order the extra tops for $100.00 each, The total I spent is $3000.00. if I can find a handyman to do this, I am sure it will last me 10 years, I will be gone before that. LOL. I am almost 70 now, the warranty is a year against the tubing. Not against the cover. So I bought one extra for each. I am happy with the instructions given here. So if someone can do this to sell, it definitely has a lot of attention. The size I am looking for is huge, I could not afford $40k at this time.

Nice idea for a small off grid cabin as well maybe some thin ply wood maybe a extra weld or 2 of pipe (as added weight might be a concern) then tin spray foam concrete sub floor. Rain catchment system composting potty wood stove lil 300 watt portable solar system and bang nice spot to stay in while camping or building a more suitable permanent place😎

You’re a genius sir!!!!!! Congrats on the barn build. I’m a construction GC in Fla. and I’ve built just about everything since I was a kid. But this video is amazing🤙🏼💪🏼 I just have a question, how does it hold up during strong winds since I saw that it was not anchored down nor any footing prepared? Her in the South (Miami) we get MMA style winds. Especially during hurricane season. Anyways, just wanted to share my views and to tell you that you’re very talented and one amazing Craftsman🤙🏼💪🏼 Please keep us posted with more great videos like this. I just Subscribed to your channel. Thanx.

Also in Southern NH here. Good call on the roofing. For tax purposes, I wonder if they will assess this as a portable garage or taxable permanent structure once all this is added on.
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 2 жыл бұрын
Here in Oregon I know of no such tax on these. It is still portable. I can easily disassemble it in a few hours and pack it off. No floor, and the snow load on the roof panels are sufficient for the three feet of snow we get. It did hold my 250 pound carcass while I was putting it on, so that was a great indicator of the durability of the snow load it can handle.

The only problem I can force is failing to put a plastic membrane down before the stone chipping. The damp will rise through the stone chipping and form a considerable amount of condensation on the inside on all the metal walls and roof. The excessive damp from that will cause untold damage to what is stored inside. As anyone who as ever bought one of those cheap metal sheds.

Sometimes the YT hands me the exact video I need! Great video and thanks for sharing! I live in a city/county that is too involved in what happens in peoples’ backyards. So the temporary canopy is one of the most frequently used solutions, but winter winds just trash them. So while I might not go full on like you did, even just improving the structure with your ideas may be the ticket!

I have so many questions for such a perfect video.. 1) Could I finesse a Saws All through that much sheet metal the way he did? 2) Should I have pulled Building Permits with my Local Government since I'm converting a Temporary Structure to a Permanent one? 3) Should I run the Sheet Metal Seams Horizontally like he did or Vertically to prevent Heavy Snow Accumulation?
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 Ай бұрын
Thankyou for watching. As for your questions: 1) Yes, you can use that saw in that manner. 2) Depending on you local jurisdiction depends on the permitting process. In some places it is required while in others, it is not. 3) The engineered carports they build are placing the steel in the same fashion as I do. I have had no problems with snow loads collection on the roof here in the Cascade Mountains of Southwestern Oregon. Some folks prefer the place them the other way which is also a determining factor in regard to the region you live in which is dependent on how much snow you receive annually. Which also is an extra expense with added material.
@duncancremin1708
@duncancremin1708 6 ай бұрын
To my eye, it looked wrong, having the sheets lying horizontally, like that, but you saved a lot of work at eaves level, by being able to curve the sheets around the edges of the roof onto the walls. I don’t think I’d be brave enough to install the full sheets and cut them in situ, without help. I’d use the extra time and measure and cut them on the ground, before fitting them. As others have already pointed out, what you’ve ended up with is a water maker, because the evaporation from the ground will condense on the walls. Sealing the floor against damp will help a lot, but you also need to ensure a good airflow, even when all locked up. It might be worth considering some sort of insulation on the interior surfaces of the steel. Even the evaporation from a person breathing in there will be enough to make it rain inside, if it’s properly cold, or raining, outside, due to the vapour condensing on the cold surfaces and dripping from low points overhead. A thin layer of spray foam insulation makes an unbelievable difference to that. I used 25mm (1”) of closed cell foam to stop my single skin roof dripping and, much to my surprise, it worked completely. Even with a cow and calf in there, it never rains inside any more. I was told after I’d committed, that open cell foam would have been better, because it allows a certain amount of moisture permeability, but given the steel is impervious anyway, I can’t see why it would make a difference. Great reuse of a disposable frame. I don’t think I would have thought of that. Even worse, I think I might have declared it impractical, if someone else thought of it and asked me. I’m genuinely surprised it’s strong enough to support the weight. Thanks for this.

Yes I do. Another viewer recommended I place plastic on the ground prior to pouring the gravel. My solution is to remove four inches of rock, place plastic sheeting and backfill with cement. I want a nice cement slab in there anyway. Also I will be placing insulation on the ceiling. Stay tuned for those upgrades.

Looks great, one question though, why wouldnt you run the corrugated roofing the grooves going downward for drainage? The direction you have it going would retain debris, snow, water, etc. Siding may have been better to run up and down with too but thats gonna be far more forgiving
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319
@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 2 жыл бұрын
It would have cost more in materials to fasten runners along the walls and roof. Most buildings I have observed with the metal framing are sheeted in this manner. As for the debris collection, not a problem. The spray nozzle on a hose will wash it off. Snow load is not a problem either in my climate. We get only up to eighteen inches over night on very rare occasions which was the case this past winter and proved the structure was sound. My two hundred pound body on one small portion of the roof will screwing in the fasteners indicated to me it could handle the load. The snow does not stay long though and I have not had to wash debris from the roof yet. The snow clears that away annually. Great questions.

Just had my Costco 10x20 soft carport collapse this winter (over 2 ft snow)…my bad. Liked your ingenuity but kinda shying away from your level of construction. With that amount of effort and customization think I’d just do a stick built frame shed instead. But I do get your thinking- why not turn the old carport pipe frame into something more useful, if those carports had heavier gauge pipe I’d be more inclined to go your route. I’d venture a guess that you’re probably north of a 75-100 hours into your project. Glad it served your purpose tho.

I just bought the same garage with the plan to do the same thing when the cloth comes apart. I had the round top one already and wanted to do this but it didn’t occur to me until after I had already bought the new one that I very well could build the round one with corrugated metal, it would lay down fine. Maybe eventually I’ll build that one up too so it doesn’t go to waste.
