From RGB to Hubble Palette: My Custom Siril Script

The inspiration for this script came from the workflow that Luke from @lukomatico demonstrated on his channel. Link to that video is below.
In this video, I will show you how to use my custom Siril script, HubbleMatic, to create a faux Hubble palette from a one-shot color camera. The Hubble palette is a popular color scheme used in astrophotography, which is designed to enhance the visual appeal of images captured in narrowband filters. While most astrophotographers use specialized monochrome cameras with narrowband filters to create this effect, it is also possible to create a faux Hubble palette with a one-shot color camera using the right techniques, and therefore this script.
You need to be running Siril 1.2-beta1 or newer for this script to work: siril.org/download/
Download the Script:

Very nice--shows how to do scripting other than just the common stacking procedure. It will be nice when the Win version of starnet++ in SiriL gets fixed. Then we should be able to include separating out the stars in a script--I don't think that can be done with the current bug, can it?
@DeepSpaceAstro

I think it can. You just need to start Siril from a command line to get it to work. The have instructions on the download page, but it's there command line version not the GUI

FYI, I also agree with you - wish could automate every command in siril and not require human interaction. would be nice if those commands allowed arguments so I could "fake a human" -- example would be bge and RGB combine where would like to be able to enter those values as part of the commend and align or crop or force other examples without entry. May have to look at the script updates in 1.2 and see if some of these have been "fixed".

Some of my images looked a little bit washed out after using the script. So, like Luke I applied color saturations in orange brown yellows and Background factor to zero Then another color saturation in cyan blue blue magenta, keeping background factor to 0 For me, I got a reasonable approximation of a nice color image, leaning slightly towards a Hubble palette sort of appearance. Thus, at the end of your script, I added: #1 for orange to yellow satu 0.63 0 1 #4 for cyan to magenta satu 0.63 0 4

Nice video. comment on script location on windows -- you can put "personal" scripts in c:\users\yourlogin\AppData\Roaming\siril\scripts folder and make sure that directory is in your siril preferences (upper right 3 lines > preferences > scripts > list of dirs ...), instead of the global folder, that way you do not loose if upgraded.

Not sure why. The image in the video was shot with an L-Enhance. The script is quite simple, so it's not doing anything crazy. You can open it in any text editor to see the commands. I've comment each so they're easy to identify.

If i remove the auto stretch function in the script would that keep it so that I can go in and manually adjust the brightness and things on my own because if i use it with the auto stretch i noticed my image came out very noisy in a way that was pretty much unfixable

had a good look at this but initial results are very grainy compared to my own processed results sticking with the natural colours. Maybe it is the object itself that doesn't lend itself to the process well, that being IC5146 Cocoon. It is such a rich area of HA and I believe that is causing the grain. I will try it out on my next DSO object, the Soul Nebula but another thing affecting this is integration time, I don't have enough with 5.5 hours.
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro 8 ай бұрын
Yeah it's not perfect. Just a quick and dirty way of doing it. If you shot with a filter like the L-Enhance or L-Extreme, you may get better results doing it manually. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nKqYgtV827Obd4k.html

The Linear view is showing you the stretch that was applied. It wouldn't be adding any noise. You could always comment out the autostretch in the script, before running it, and then stretch the image yourself.

Open the script file in Notepad. Look for this section: #Background extraction subsky -rbf -smooth=0.5 -samples=10 Put a # in front of the subsky, so it looks like this: #subsky -rbf -smooth=0.5 -samples=10 Save the file and run the script. That will stop the BGE from executing.
