From Ship to Ship: Aircraft Carrier Replenishment-at-Sea

Replenishment at sea (RAS) or underway replenishment (UNREP) is a method of transferring fuel, munitions, and stores from one ship to another while under way. Most ships can receive replenishment on either side. Aircraft carriers of the U.S. Navy, however, always receive replenishment on the starboard side of the carrier. The design of an aircraft carrier, with its island/navigation bridge to starboard, does not permit replenishment to the carrier's port side. (learn more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underway_replenishment)

Did this in the early 70's for about 3 years. In Wespac, atlantic, Mediterranean etc. All Navy all the time.

The US Navy had decided that the first combat deployment of F-35C will be on USS Carl Vinson in 2021, Gerald R Ford sadly will not be the first carrier to get F-35Cs. On Gerald R Ford's first deployment in 2020, it will only carry F/A-18E/F super hornets

Me too. Unfortunately PCU Ford is plagued with so many problems that I don't see it happening any time soon. First there's the problem with EMALS and arrestor gear. But recently even worse problems were detected in lifts that carry weapons and jets on deck. Two of them simply don't work. Civilian contractors are trying to fix the problem for the last 3 months, without any success. Hopefully she will sail with full complement of jets in 2021. If that date is not met we will have serious problems with carrier deployment, especially in these dangerous times when we're probed by our enemies and dismissed by our allies thanks to the Idiot-in-chief.
