There is no condemnation of Extreme Asceticism in the Bhagavath Geetha infact " yogi yunjeeta satatamaatmaanam rahasi sthitaha | ekaakee yatachittaatmaa niraasheeraparigraha || 10 ||" Well Bhagavath Geetha doesn't deal extensively with Hatha Yoga alone. It is more of a Philosophical synthesis of prevailant Indic thoughts from Vedanta, Samkhya, Tantra and Yoga. The primary discourse in the Geetha basically explores the Samkhyan principles of Guna, The Vedantic Core of Atman and Brahman the supreme godhead and Gunas. Ultimately exploring Dharma, the duty of each individual driven by their natural disposition which is very much what The principles of Yoga does to flow with the Gunas and non identification of the self with which is Chitta Vritti. Chitta Vritti, Vritti which is basically occupation Chitta is always occupied by Guna influences Chitta flows towards objects and their essence of Gunas. To cut this Vritti of Chitta Hatha Yoga is employed and Krishna basically explores Various ways in which it is attained whose final abode is Brahman. Where Geetha does Krishna abhorr extreme Hatha is unknown.

@bv tv hahahahaha. Moron. Adityanath is nothing more than a political right wing plant. His sect is irrelevant and he is generally regarded as an embarrassment within the sampradaya. As for your other claims, well that’s just your opinion

Thank you. However some of the things below are controversial and not accurate. Some claims are far fetched. Tapas is "heating power of self denial" "Karma became key tenent of orthodax brahminism." "part of the tradition that later came to be known as Hinduism." These come from a complete misunderstanding and arrogance that Indian tradition can be studied like a lab animal. Yogis do stuff "to capitalize popularity of yoga..." not much different from what the speaker is doing. Also a lack of appreciation for anything being studied is a bit dissapointing. Indian tradition has the element of gaurava/shradda/aastaa. The lack of any mention of people who you learnt things about yoga tradition from - credit etc is also disappointing. Thank you for the lecture.

Ragu Kattinakere I have not come here to defend the lecturer, but to inform you that he is a well respected western baba amongst babas. He has been ordened a mahant by fellow babas. But I agree that he should have been introduced, or introduce himself, as to his Lineage, there is a documentary by BBC where they Join him on the MahaKumbh.

And I informed everyone about some of the things that are not accurate in what he said (to put it mildly). I appreciate the entire effort. However, these things should be reviewed by traditional scholars before being presented as facts. Thank you.

OK, I comprehend. He is anexo actual scholar, and by anthropologic standards he is quite in a good line.
@raguks
@raguks 7 жыл бұрын
One should not use "anthropologic standards" for religions just as anthropologists do not go about giving lectures on Christianity. When I say traditional scholars, they should be living that tradition. For example, "tapas" is related to Indian darsana (philosophy). As an Indian belonging to the tradition, myself and a lot others will not consider these explanations authentic. There is a rigorous etymology used by Indian traditions to determine correct meaning. Traditional scholars of India are trained in them. Hope this helps. I remain respectful of these efforts to give more information.

Ragu Kattinakere OK. But again I tell you he is an initiate, an adept, don't remember If he is Juna Akhara or a Ramanandi. Baba Rampuri also does a very valuable work, in my opinion a much more profound one. Also many western Naths also do a very good effort to document their yogic traditions.
