Welcome back to Talking Transitions! Today, we have an incredible story to share with you - the inspiring journey of a professional footballer who not only battled on the field but faced life's toughest challenges off it.
Join us as we hear the emotional tale of Anthony Forde, his fiancée's brave fight against a brain tumour diagnosis and the unexpected support he received from none other than Ryan Reynolds.
Anthony found a home and a family in the form of Wrexham AFC. The club, now co-owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, has become more than just a football team; it's a community that supports its players through thick and thin.
We delved into Anthony’s journey from the remote village of Ballingarry in Ireland to the pinnacle of English football in the Premier League.
Being promoted to League Two with Wrexham and celebrating in style in Las Vegas alongside his team mates and the owner.
Being settled at Wrexham AFC and wanting to see out the rest of his career at the club that has given him so much love.

Forde is a Wrexham legend! So happy Laura and the baby are doing well. I've followed their journey on Welcome to Wrexham, and Laura's story brought tears to my eyes. This podcast is so important; we all love football so much, but there's more to it than what happens on the pitch. Keep up the great stories.

Behave yaself,please.Fordy,his wife & family have the full support of the whole town,BUT Let’s not get carried away with “Legend” a word that is thrown around too easily theses days. Fordy had played around 32 games for Wrexham ffs,not 532. People like John Neal,Arfon Griffiths,Eddie May,Mickey Thomas,Ian Moir,Billy Ashcroft etc,these are Wrexham LEGENDS.

I've been through a very similar life changing events having a new baby and then a few weeks later I was told I had a brain tumour and had a few months to live. That was 15 years ago now. It's been rough. Nothing seems to go our way but I'm just grateful to be here and the best Dad I can be. Respect to the Forde family. Keep fighting. Best wishes.

yes Anthony is right when he said there are people that just want you to fail, a few words of encouragement or compassion go a long way. I like the stability at Wrexham, it's given everyone a lift and we all feel optimistic. Well done to all 3 of you for this content 👏

Some of this is so hard to hear as we have the same thing going in on with our son having a brain tumour . He’s 29 and our world has been turned upside down . We are lucky though as he had his almost entirely removed . We pray for a cure though still . Football and It’s always sunny have kept us going . Thank you Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds , Rob Mac

Fantastic watch guys, I have known Ant since he was a little cheeky kid kicking a football when his dad & myself would coach the team, you will not meet a more nicer & down to earth person & family. So happy things worked out well for him & Laura & Paddy & also Kev. Nothing but the best they deserve.

Watched this with tears most of the way through. I remember standing and clapping the 3 of you at the Racecourse, along with that goal you scored and the whole place irrupted. You are a Wrexham legend, and part of our history. I love that our players love Wrexham as much as we do. Love this interview, have supported Wrexham for 30 yrs and as a fan I can say Anthony is a great player who is loved by us all, his journey with Laura made me have a tear but so glad they are in a better place and on the up, to the promotion race now ❤ come on the town

Wow! I’m so sorry for what you, Laura and your family have been through but I’m so happy you received good news after all. As someone living with a diffuse glioma astrocytoma, I can relate to a lot of what you’re saying. I had a craniotomy to remove what they could, followed by radio and chemo and now 3 monthly scans like yourselves. Thank you so much for using your platform to raise awareness for brain tumours and good luck to Laura going forward 🙏

How long will WFC players stay humble like this. Many league 1 players there now. Can they make Championship?

As long as Phil Parkinson is at the helm, they will continue to bring in players like this. Phil does extensive research on any target off the pitch. In Anthony's case, one of the people Phil asked was Elliot Lee. Elliot had been a teammate of his at their old club so would know how he was behind the scenes.
