𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟰 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭.
On the face of it, it costs just a few hundred rands to illegally move goods across the border of South Africa and Zimbabwe. But with hundreds of smugglers operating on either side of the Beitbridge border, it’s a lucrative source of income. South African National Defence Force soldiers patrol the multi-million rand fence between these two countries. So, how is it possible that the smugglers (also called “carriers”) continue to operate so brazenly? In this exclusive investigation, Carte Blanche takes its cameras inside this criminal network to reveal who’s really running this illicit operation.

SANDF....what purpose do they actually have? This man does note deserve the rank he holds...has no clue on what his troops are doing. That is so obvious. I wonder how much money each soldier is pocketing a day while watching all this? This is a prime example of what happens when you have a sheep leading an army of lions because it is better having a lion leading an army of sheep. Those who don't know what it means have never had a single boot on the ground. This is a disgrace. Training standards have become a joke in the SANDF and the SAPS.....and that on itself is a big problem. That Carte Blanche reporter has more integrity and discipline than any of the soldiers she encountered and she was not even armed. This deserves respect. Shame on the clueless Brigadier General....so called... leader being interviewed and his fellow sheep. What did he say..."they were doing their job". Maybe just resign because a soldier with discipline, pride and integrity will NOT take a bribe. It's that simple.

When my late brother was deployed at the boader a policeman he said they can pay upto 4000 rand per car. He told me his sudden presence with others who were deployed there caused the current soldiers and other boader police to halt their actions and started doing rountine checks with them. In one vehicle they found cut up human body parts been smuggled. He said he never had that much fear for his own saps people than he did at the boader. He couldn't wait to leave.

I also think that a joint operation by both the Zimbabwean and SAn governments will help alleviate this. SARS is losing so much in Export taxes and also Zim am sure is also losing so much in import taxes. If not for the safety of both nations, then let them do it for the revenue that they will both collect.

Thank you for the report Carte Blanche. However, It misses the critical issue - Why are these people smuggling goods into Zimbabwe 🇿🇼? In some progressive regions and countries, authorities have adopted free trade or low tariffs on goods imported. The corrupt Zimbabwean government is doing a great disservice to its citizens by making our lives unbearable - ZANU-PF is the problem. What happened to the continental free trade agreement? Sad 😢 - this is poor governance!
