This FMS Sky Trainer 182 came into the shop recently and is a really nice flying little Cessna. It's an older FMS design and so the assembly is a little more involved than some of the newer FMS birds but looks great once all together. In flight, the model has good scale type power and will do basic (non-scale) aerobatics well. As a trainer, it's a good candidate as well and is something that you can progress with as you're learning. #Cessna182 #TheRCGeek #FlightReview

It was my first plane 3 years ago (The V2 without gyro) and i still love it. I removed the blue decals from the hood and wings and also the FMS logo and that made it look so much better :D Sadly it dosn't fit into my car so i fly my e-flite f-15 much more.

It is a very nice scale 182 plane. I fly mine on 4s 2.2Ah battery and it's super fun. You're right about this being an old model which shows during assembly and especially the connector for the tail light is something that can fault so be sure to check that it works before gluing. Also the wing spar is really short so I would recommend to reinforce the wing. Even the rear stab has to be reinforced, as it has no rod out of the box, with something like a carbon fibre rod. This is important if you decide to go 4s and push the plane with aerobatics. But it's a great flying plane and highly recommended.

This is the first RTF's I bought off ebay in 2015. It was like only $150 shipped back then. 1 flight and done!!! Crashed shortly after taking off. I thought trainer would mean I could learn to fly with this. No gyro's back then to help you fly. Love this plane but never got another one...Living through you man...

RCG, I bought this at the same time I bought my FMS 1220 Ranger thinking that it would be a next level graduate plane for me after learning from zero on the Ranger as I am a total newbie. In fact I just had my first ever successful takeoff and landing in the same flight! I've only flown 3x times after someone else took off and landed for me so I did it on my own on only my 4th ever flight. Super excited, but I still have a long way to go and lots to learn and experience to gain however I am already having some second thoughts about unboxing this one. I am a subscriber to your channel but also watch others like Fat Guy and the Brian Phillips RC review kinda surprised me a bit with his comments on the level of difficulty of assembly and even landings. I've never assembled one of these or any RC plane for that matter and really don't know anything. Maybe I'll hold onto it and wait to grow into it, much like the larger HSDJets version. It seems after watching your reviews and a few others that the HSDJets 2000mm would be easier than the 1400? What can you say to that based on your assembly and flight experience with both? I just had to get one of the HSD's while I could before they were all gone. I am so sold on the true scale realism and looks. Not something to do stunts with per se but just cruise and enjoy slow flight passes and dusk flying. Oh, I love that my Ranger has floats. I am looking forward to trying them soon too. Keep up the great content.

NIce....if you have to dial in a down elevator while lowering in the flap, then you are flying fast...so maybe train your eyes in recognizing the correct airspeed before lowering in the flap so it wont baloon...(aerodynamics 101)
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 2 жыл бұрын
I fully appreciate what you’re saying, but honestly there’s more to it than that. Keep in mind that when flaps are deployed on any airplane, there is a lift, drag and pitching moment change that occurs. Most only consider the lift change and to a lesser extent the drag. However, When you camber the flaps, there is a change in the flow downwash angle at the wing trailing edge which changes the local angle of attack at the leading edge of the tail. This results in a pitching moment change that changes the trim. The direction of the trim change is configuration dependent. Some configurations require up elevator while other configurations (like the Cessna) require down elevator. This comes from experience flying different aircraft in addition to analyzing lots of wind tunnel data through my work. I’ve seen lots of interesting trends based on configuration.
@chriscastella9854
@chriscastella9854 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thercgeek Buddy that is exactly what i am mentioning...the increased lift (thus the pitching moment) is due to deploying the flap at a higher airspeed than optimal. If you remove the mix and reduce the airspeed to near a stall and then deploy the flap, the a/c will not pitch... :)
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 2 жыл бұрын
yes deploying flaps at a higher speed will cause a change you’re describing, yes. And flying fast with the flaps down will even drive the nose downward. However what I’m saying is that there’s more than just a lift change driving things here. There is most definitely a trim change with flaps and that is prevalent on most airplanes. The interaction of the downwash at the tail from the trailing edge angle change is a big part of that trim change.
@paulgervais1920
@paulgervais1920 Жыл бұрын
@@chriscastella9854 True, i am flying this model as i fly my 100% scale Cessna, so before selecting flaps down, you must bleed off airspeed, by reducing power to approach power and approach airspeed (elevator trim is needed here) then select first notch flaps, then second or third notch of flaps, then adjust power and trim for final approach speed wich should be near 1.3 VS (1.3 X stall speed ). To RC Geek you fly very well...very well those approach and landings...keeping some power until touch down, this is the key to a standard safe landing on most airplane...! And thank you for your excellent work...we all enjoy it ... keep going my friend.

Chris. You have way too much fun my friend. I got to ask….you ever check prop for balance before you install it? Some planes, not all, I seen need a little prop balancing. Lot too depends on the quality they put into these models. I not knocking you or anybody that doesn’t check it. I just curious of your thoughts. I know most folks just want to get it assembled and just go fly. I understand that. I had an old Eflite model I picked up at the hobby shop not too long ago l that had just an all around poorly constructed prop. I must admit, that is rare. Most Eflite brands don’t have that many issues in that respect. I know that stuff happens but I couldn’t stand the aweful sound it made and ended up replacing it with a better prop that took very little to balance it. Purred like a kitten in the air. Anyway, Really Enjoy your videos. 👍👍😊
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 2 жыл бұрын
I rarely check balance although I should, haha! The e-flite Cessna prop was especially out of balance, but I just powered through with that one. Usually I’ll fly a prop first and if it’s bad, I’ll balance it. In the case of the 150, I just ignored it all together hoping it would solve itself. 🤣
