The Bushy ACR failed first and foremost because Bushy never understood what the Masada really was. Bushy saw another 5.56 carbine to fart out, but the Masada was an entire ECOSYSTEM. The DMR setup and the 7.62x39 were already working when Bushy signed on to manufacture, and absolutely should have been available on day 1. The ACR is nose heavy. The reason is because there is more steel forward of the barrel trunion. The Masada was designed with the charging handle directly behind the barrel trunion for better weight distribution and a 14.5 barrel. The ACR has the charging handle forward which closes up a hole in the receiver probably making it handle sand better but throws the weight in front of the balance point and a 16 inch barrel with two extra inches of 3/4 in thick barrel all the way up front where it can exert the most leverage. The problem could have been alleviated with a pencil barrel similar to the SCAR16, but that would have required Bushy to add another barrel to their inventory that is specific to the ACR and that would have cost more money. The gas block should have been redesigned to use a SCAR-like front sight. As for adoption, unfortunately the modularity is a strike against it. Militaries do not need modular rifles. They have armorers to handle that. Quick change barrels however are an AWESOME idea for normies that don't want to have to buy a whole set or armorers tools, or special operations guys that don't want to be bothered with going to the armory. I noticed on the ACR forum, the very first thing the community redesigned was the front trunion, and they ditched the entire quick change mechanism in favor of an aluminum block with a titanium barrel nut for weight savings. Remington did the same thing, but they added a magnesium lower because they saw the Bushmaster price tag and decided that it just wasn't high enough. Yep, that same forward thinking and razor sharp decision making that has gotten Remington in the financial position that it's in saw them make a 6.8SPC ACR with magnesium parts because they were absolutely sure it would become the next US military service rifle.

The MASADA´s spiritual successor would be the new polish standard Military rifle called the MSBS or also called GROT ( military callsign). Their 7.62 NATO seems really soft shooting aswell, especially considering the fact that the upper can be used to convert the rifle to a functioning Bullpup design , all you need is the Bullpup Lower and handguard. Its supposed to be cheap to build aswell, sadly hasnt hit the civillian market yet.

Here’s the big issue I had with my Windham made ACR, it would not hold zero. After talking with my friend who’s a gunsmith we figured out that the barrel locking assembly was not locking up solid. After swapping out the 1/9 barrel and the original trunnion for a 1/7 barrel and new trunnion and it works incredibly well. If you have an ACR look up Templar Precision. They do custom barrels for the ACR. Thinking about doing a 6.5 Grendel DMR upgrade to mine.

Completely wrong. The main thing that set this rifle apart was the point of being “adaptive” you can’t even change the barrel on this without it losing zero everytime. There is no reason for this to even exist when the SCAR is better than it in every single way. You can change the barrel on the SCAR and it maintains zero also btw. I wanted this rifle to be successful too, but it wasn’t and never was even at the earliest stages.

One can see the origins of the SIG SG550 rifle system in the Magpul ACR, if only SIG hadn't sold their arms production rights in the year 2000 this is probably something like they would have come up with, just like the sig pro, developed in the late '90's, was an upgrade from the P220 series of pistols.

If Magpul made this, then there's no telling what other innovation they would've come up with. Sad that the Masada/ACR platform didn't take off like how it could have. I also believe Robinson Armory could've taken off and contributed geniously to the the fire arm industry. A shame that their one small failure of attention to detail kept them from being considered in the US Army trials for the SCAR program. I guess thats how it is when there's millions of dollars on the line!! Oh yeah, if Bushmaster would bring out a mini version chambered 5.56 or 300 AAC, with a short barrel and a very compact stock, much like the SCAR mini (only for Mil/LEO), this platform could be re-energized. Don't be like FN and restrict it to just Mil/LEO, the civilian market is just waiting for a breathe of fresh air.

I can look past the caliber conversions, and some of the other things the ACR was suppose to do, what really irritates me is the barrels don't return to 0 when you swap them, and WHY did they go with an M4 profile barrel? Everything is 1:7 these days but for stocking up on bulk ammo, the best deals are going to be your 55 grain which aren't so great out of that twist. Finding a 20" 1:12 now is dam near impossible. @@madeleineollerton5993 the POF Rogue is a 16.5" .308 AR platform rifle that weighs less than a 14.5" M4. Barrels are heavy, contours matter. As far as swapping uppers, sure, you dont have to rezero every time on an AR, *IF* you have a dedicated optic per upper. And an AR upper requires a new bolt for most calibers, but if you run full bolt carriers in each upper for ease of use, that's even more weight that is required for you to carry to swap barrels and/or calibers. On the ACR, you swap the bolt, you swap the barrel, and you put the same handguard back on. No having to worry about individually swapping rail mounted accessories like grips, lights, lasers, or bipods. And instead of carrying around entire uppers with optics, rails and attachments, you are just carrying a barrel, and maybe an optic.

Fun and neat rifle. I have a lot of shooting time behind one. I wouldn't take it in place of the AR15/M16 due to it being so front heavy, not as handy, not as ergo (believe it or not) even though its ambi, and mine went down from a roll pin walking out located in the leading edge of the recoil rod. Once this roll pin walked out it caught the recoil spring, and stopped the bolt from going into battery. The enhanced handguard/cheese grater is huge! It's bulkier and less svelt. Trigger was not good; too heavy and grainy. I put in the Geissele ACR trigger and solved that problem. Cool gun, though. Shoots great and its cool but not good enough to replace the AR. Too bad :(

Hello, I love your Channel! I've got a question on the ACR in 6.8 SPC II - newly released last year. What do you tihnk of the 6.8 round in this rifle? I'm most concerned with 6.8 mags. The ACR uses 'standard' AR mags in their 6.8 unlike the LWRC 6.8 which uses custom mags. Do you think 6.8 is a good round for this rifle? Do you think 6.8 rounds will feed reliably from a standard AR mag in this rifle?

6.8 will work in a STANAG mag, but probably only at like 25-28 round capacity. PMAGs they dont like so much in 6.8. Barrett 30 round mags work well with 6.8 at full capacity. If you get lucky you can find the Bushmaster/Remington marked PMAGs that are made for the ACR.

Bushmaster fucked us by selling out to Freedom Group and lowering their QC, and breaking tons of promises that are now over a decade old.

For this rifle to succeed, it should have stayed with the original Magpul company and Fitzpatrick. BM is what ruined the potential of this weapon system.

Would have been better had Magpul kept this "In House". No real interest in the ACR.

I’ve heard the safety design is in a low spot, rubs the hand, and somewhat of a nuisance.

Heavy, more expensive, less accurate, less reliable than an AR...no reason to buy one
@TommyTombstone
@TommyTombstone 4 жыл бұрын
Less accurate and reliable? Lack of reliability is really only with the Freedom Group QC'd Huntsville, AL ACRs, not the Windhams or the Ilions. The problem with the barrels is that Bushy went with a heavy M4 profile barrel to save cost (presumably by buying them in bulk from a barrel manufacturer), and they decided that 1:9 is the twist they wanted. That being said, 1:9 is perfectly fine for bullets less than 62gr, and there are lots of accurate bullets out there ranging from 40-60gr. I would bet good money that the 1:9 freefloated ACR is more accurate than the 1:7 two-piece handguard M4 with milspec M193 55gr ball.

I just got mine for 1250. They have a cult following. They will return. Tommy Built did it for G36s, and Dakota and Zenith did it for MP5s.

I honestly was never super impressed with it. It's basically yet another AR-180 clone. It had promise of a decent rifle but I disagree about it being revolutionary.

ACR= Adaptive Combat Rifle but it can’t even change barrels out and maintain zero... this system was a failure from start to finish and the price alone didn’t kill it, it was the horrendous reliability and the fact it couldn’t even do what it was named to do. Switch calibers on the fly. The SCAR is better than this in every single way. You can swap barrels on it and it doesn’t hold zero. It even had a higher reliability than the HK416 when the military initially tested it. Now with the SCAR fully developed it is even better than back then.

All and all a great rifle, had some pains "growing up" but bushy is at least trying to pick up the ball and there are a new products and more is comming if I'm not wrong. Like the channels "no bullshit" style, keep it up.
