In the first men's T20 International held in Australia, Damien Martyn was promoted to open the innings and didn't disappoint - striking a highly entertaining 96 off only 56 balls.

Yes I kind of agree. Barring that six at 0:58 off Pollock, this innings was way below par the elegant standards we are used to seeing from Martyn. It could also be due to it being first taste of slam bang T20 international cricket.

Martyn is very underrated. He has always held his own. He provided consistency in the middle of the innings. Just like Lehmann and most other Australians, he played his part in the team, Australians always played as a unit, not focusing on individual heroics or records, the reason they have been dominating for so long. Other teams should learn to actually work as a "team" and play for collective glory, not individual glory. For individual glory, people should play badminton, tennis or chess.

Most players still knocked their bats in back then, rather than having dozens of brand new bats to break at will, they don't last long when you abuse them "out of the box" but they hit the ball twice as far until they do break. This is why broken bats have become quite common in the last decade, and even the number 11 can hit it 120 metres

He had lesser chances than most of the players and still managed to make a good average of 44 and 40 in tests and odi which is a remarkable acheivement . Could have been at the same level as ponting or dravid if he had played more . That side was that much competitive
@nidge87032 жыл бұрын
Australia had a lot of good players waiting to come into the squad around that time in that No4, No5, No6 position, Lehmann, Katich, Hodge, Hussy, Symonds etc. Players were always one bad series away from being dropped for another quality player. I think that’s why we saw Australia be such a dominant team in that era. Especially when you had others like Hayden Langer Ponting Clarke all remain really solid throughout their careers. Really was an excellent period to enjoy watching cricket in Australia at that time.
