We always used the Swiss Cheese model for accident mitigation at the airline. Basically you’ve got multiple layers of Swiss cheese that each have holes (errors) in them but the holes don’t necessarily line up. Each layer mitigates the errors from the previous layer. Until the holes do line up. Then you get an unsafe aircraft state. There were many layers here which could have prevented your unsafe ship state. But as Wayne Gretzky said “you always miss the shot you don’t take”. You could always wrap yourself in bubble wrap and sit on the couch in your bomb shelter all day. Although you’d probably end up suffocating anyway. Polynesian music and rhythm is insane. And your editing at the finish of that section gave me chills. Truly. And then there was that sunset reveal from behind the palm tree at the end. Wow. That is all.

Maybe this helps fixing outboards. If engine stalls is usually still water in lines. Got to finish cleaning well lines and especially fuel pump. If engine missfires , problem is usually electric. So clean dry well all possible contacts and ocourse sparks plugs and wires etc. Drying everything well . Great video. Saludos.

Every living being on this earth makes mistakes - both of you too. Ok, that was a huge mistake. But hey, you both got through this unharmed and you learned something from it. And that's what mistakes are good for. And even better: you talk about it so that others can learn from your mistakes! And that's great! I'm incredibly thankful that this error wasn't the end of this KZfaq channel and I'm grateful for your openness and insight! Something like that won't happen to you anytime soon...

We had a storm pass through NH. Wind gusts and an older woman lost her hat in the lake. She jumped in her canoe to fetch it. She ended up drowning. Serious lessons learned in life. Some by chance, others by seeing what could happen. Thanks for all your video's...... such an AMAZING life you are choosing to live !!!!

Here’s a wee tip if you don’t already know. If it’s tight putting on a wet suit, or they are wet, two plastic bags, one on each foot as you pull them on then transfer to hands. If you’re really professional, jump in the water with your wet suit and put it on there. Great vid guys, nice music choice.

Underwater, as a teenager, I used to stick the tip of my Hawaiian Spear into the next of a bottle and shoot out the bottom. I would then leave the bottle by a rock or coral to get encrusted by worms and such. We would harvest then a while later and sell then to the 5 & 10 store. You, of course, leave them as habitats for sea life. I hope I heard right and there were "bottles" down there...

I was near the Falklands In 82 I could not sleep in my bunk. Kept ending up on the deck, jammed myself in my locker. Two days it was like that I was on a RFA tanker. The thing I was worried about was the missiles, not the weather. Never leave the boat until it leaves you. Cushion gone so what. Remember storms can be a little wind how often are forecasts wrong. Sorry a rant you could be dead as you well ken. I ken you will only get off the boat in a storm if the boat goes down. Lession learned.

Like I said on the last video, Warren's mistake of getting in the dinghy to go after a worthless cushion, regardless of what the cost of replacement is, it is worthless when compared to a life, was utterly insane. BUT!!! How many of us here have done idiotic things in our lives, lived to regret it and just hate looking back on it? Well, my hand is definitely up in the air! Warren's life was in great danger and he could have put the lives of others in danger, but there is something you two could also have done, and that was to hide it and not show it in your videos. All I can say is that you have shown great character and maturity publishing this error of judgement and even though it was potentially bad, you are no different to anyone else who have done equally dangerous and stupid things, but the big thing is, most people don't tell the world about it. Well done guys. This is a cautionary tale for all who seek to live on the water and to learn from others that the sea can take your life in a moment without any hesitation and also sweep away all lives that try to save yours. Life is precious. Cushions are worthless. Let everyone remember that!

I have some good tips for you about how to manage your tender in a really bad storm first thing take Motor off before the storm and stow it in the bow of your ding putting at least 20 lb in a bow of your dinghy will make it much more stable it's also works when towing makes it much less likely to flip over in the case of a bad storm take the motor inside and put a tarp over top that covers the whole thing from front to back duct tape it down or try it down or both this will keep water from getting inside and the nose weight will help to keep it from blowing over. Next when getting in the dingy in bad weather always position your weight in the bow, if the bow comes up its like a sail for wind. If you need to sit at the rear to run the motor youll notice how much the bow comes up, now weight it just enough to keep the bow down. Do this in calm conditions and youll be ready for next time. Same works in canoes in high wind i kneel in the middle to keep it flat, ive been in wind so strong it turned the canoe 180 degrees in a second cause i was seated in the rear and the bow had no traction and was sitting out of the water, once i knelt in the middle i saw the difference right away. And i had to paddle hard to make headway against a 4 knot current and 40 knots of wind! But with the weight distributed correctly its sooo much better.

Obviously, the most important thing is everyone (and your home) are safe. Take the experience, learn from it, and move on. Given the time that's passed, I'm sure you've figured out the dinghy fuel issue by now, but what immediately jumped to mind was that -- as fuel was pulled from the can -- a vacuum developed, starving the engine. I'll be curious to hear what you ultimately found.

Great that you could honestly and humbly share your incident. Can I make a small suggestion? Please wear your dinghy outboard kill leash. After falling over and being in the "circle of death" for a few petrifying minutes, I was able to escape without injury from my closest near death experience. Especially if you like to stand and use a tiller extension. Please consider it.

New USCG requirement as well: Operators of recreational vessels less than 26 feet in length will be required to use an engine cut-off switch (ECOS) and associated ECOS link (ECOSL) as of April 1, 2021, as the U.S. Coast Guard implements a law passed by Congress. The ECOS and ECOSL prevent runaway vessels and the threats they pose. Chris @ Helia #208

Without a PFD as well. “Just send it” sailors are dangerous not only to themselves but they put other people at risk when they need to be rescued. I still haven’t heard him say “I should never have gotten in the dinghy.”
