@@claudedetjens8345In the Uber app, go to the ride, select "help with this trip." Scroll to area that allows you to report upgrade to XL. Explain that more passengers were picked up than what was originally ordered. You should receive a response from Uber to correct the issue and Uber should show an ADJUSTMENT soon thereafter. They update the app frequently with options to correct. Just keep reviewing the app frequently and you'll notice how the options in the HELP area keep changing. Unsure about Lyft's help options... don't use it that much... which is a GOOD THING!

Thanks Chris for this educational video on insurance liability issues. Most riders NEVER read the COMMUNITY GUIDELINES, and once the trip is started, if drivers try to explain guidelines and/or cancel the trip based on issue with number of passengers, the driver is at risk of getting a low star rating from rider with a nasty message from Uber that says "Driver was not polite." Uber MUST change this business practice for penalizing driver for FOLLOWING THE COMMUNITY GUIDELINES AS WELL AS THEIR STATE LAWS!

The other thing that I do is ask the passengers to put on a seatbelt in the back too. If anyone says anything about the seatbelt that is negative ride is over. My favorite is the mom&dad that “forgot” the child seat.😆 Ok, sure you did.

@@gianellicapone8740 or how about when passengers with no child seat tell you, "All my other drivers take me and the kids without a car seat, so, why can't you? We're only going a couple of miles down the road, lady! I'm going to report you to Uber!" My response: Go ahead. I'm not going to break the law or violate the Community Guidelines. So I cancel ride, report it to Uber as "no car seat," and my cancelation rate goes up even though Uber says it's not affected. It is affected. I even had a support person tell me that I cancelled too early and do not qualify to receive a cancelation fee because I didn't wait out the full five minutes! Anyone else see this going on? We have to fight for every penny due to us BECAUSE either riders don't read the guidelines, lie to Uber to get a free ride, and/or Uber doesn't honor their quest promotions to us in order to reach higher tier levels to get better/more rides. All my riders' apps STILL say that I have 11 more rides than what my app says. This is because Uber took rides out of my algorithm when I was 12 points away from reaching Platinum two quarters ago. They're response, "Sorry for the inconvenience. You'll have to take more rides in the next quarter to achieve the next status. You're currently at Gold status." You know those canned messages we get that seem to be auto-responders. And No one has been able to leave any remarks on my service in over 7 months. Riders tell me there is no option in their app to leave comments.

I called riders who hard timed me bad parents loudly and clearly - told them they had better cancel or else... Then I got the microphone and called for help like the parent was harming the child if they wouldn't cancel. Now a seven minute song and dance about bad mommy or daddy... Sheesh just make me a half hour show. And if someone gets angry and charges the driver's door? Slow chase!

I have been driving Uber and Lyft XL for four years now. During COVID when the front seat was off limits, 4 passengers constituted an XL. Many riders still hold to this in my market. Just a caution, I had a group of intoxicated people (5) and the Karen of the group wanted to have someone sit on her lap instead of getting in the third row. When I told them that it was unsafe and illegal I got a 1 star rating for NOT being POLITE. Also you can request a ride upgrade on both apps from X to XL if the criteria is met. And, sometimes just two people at the airport with lots of luggage will need an XL. Thanks for the video! Always good stuff.

I had 3 coke heads get in the car one time and the first thing the guy said was "do you have any weapons?". My reply was "im in control of a metal box that goes 0 to pole in 6 seconds and im the only one wearing my seatbelt." 😏 just remind them who is in control.

Oddly enough, I more often get XL requests from parties of 4 or less than I get X requests from larger parties.

Congratulations for your new vehicle, I have been driving my Kia sorento LX thatt fits up to six passengers and it is a great advantage it is like driving two cars, an X size ride and an XL ride. Sometimes people with only two in their party order an XL ride because it is more spatious and they feel more comfortable riding in a larger vehicle. Another advantage is that when driving around very busy places or during a busy season I get to choose "rides XL only" in the platform wich allowes me to get XL rides onlyand i end up getting with a better pay for every ride during those busy times,congratulations again for your new vehicle.

I have an xl qualified vehicle and find that many people order an xl even though they have 4 or less passengers. I also frequently have my own stuff taking up my 3rd row and with uber I can just turn off xl but continue with x and comfort rides. With lyft however you cannot, I even called support to try and get them to change me back to just an x driver as I do very few lyft rides. They refused so I have to look closely to make sure I don't accept xl rides when my 3rd row is not available.

Since you were solely foing X and now you're doing X and XL it would be fantastic if you could give the breakdown as far as how many of your rides or XL versus X. You know possibly some other statistics as well because I think it would help a lot of people pick out a new vehicle.

We need to demand that all these rideshare companies not allow the front seat to be occupied. I have a regular vehicle and would really prefer not to take anybody in the front seat.

@@BenInMankato that easier said than done. I would have to cancel one third of my trips, risking deactivation. These companies use to tell us how many people in the party, that way we could decline those offers. They no longer tell us how many passengers.

Hi Chris, I have not finished watching the video yet, I have an order I need to go shop. Wanted to comment while its fresh on my mind. With the Uber app, you can take the XL size, when they requested an UberX. When the ride is finished, you can go in and report it to Uber that there were more than four people or five people in the car and Uber will up charge the rider and pay you the difference. Now I haven’t done an Uber ride in over a year, but it was still working when I stopped driving rideshare. The other item that Uber and Lyft both told me, because one of my vehicles would allow for seven passengers, they said, I am insured as long as I am not carrying more than what the legal limit is for the vehicle. So as long as you have a seatbelt for each rider, your you will be insured. Course they could’ve change this in the last year but I doubt it take care. Pardon any typos I was using talk to text.

Uber no longer allows us to do this. I have tried tirelessly for 3 rides i have footage of to prove it. They wont let me upgrade it to XL for any reason. Pax are catfishing us for our vehicles and its infuriating

On uber only you can upgrade the trip from x to xl if they ordered x and have 5 or 6 ppl (college students ) they try to play that game!!!!

I have also found out that if a surge is a that's then yes you will have to call customer service.....

@@claudedetjens8345And the customer service reps should live in the same area as the driver calling so they can relate to what the driver's call is about. How many riders actually read the community guidelines? If drivers try to explain the guidelines or cancel the ride because riders are not compliant, drivers get their score reduced and a message that says "driver was not polite." In order to reduce the arguments and keep driver scores/star ratings up, it would appear that Uber has (more than Lyft) created an app that allows drivers to discriminate against riders by setting filters based on a rider's star rating, and it would be a 100% non-argument about a pickup location if drivers just followed the app, regardless of riders' inability to use the app correctly and put in their accurate location, which upfront fare pricing has determined based on rider's location, and simply cancel the ride if rider doesn't show up in the location of the pin drop. Alternatively, going the extra 1/2 mile outside of the rider's pin drop, and communicating with the rider to find them, may increase your tip from rider, but this is not a guarantee. A cancelation fee is a guarantee, but who can make a living on cancelation fees? Uber needs to change their business model so drivers are paid fairly and riders can afford the rates set by Uber. All these fees and service charges that Uber takes out of the fare, yet tells the IRS through a 1099 that driver made $50K, yet driver only brings home less than half of that, appears to be putting drivers in a higher tax bracket, and for what?? So Uber and Lyft do not have to pay THEIR FARE SHARE to the States in unemployment insurances, FICA, Medicare and Social Security. When are the state legislators going to wake up? Perhaps when they order a ride and realize they can't get one because their star rating is too low? Or when they find out that they donated to an unknown charity through the app that is being passed through the drivers' accounts as part of their GROSS FARE, which is taxable? Where does that charity money go to? Everyone should pay more attention to their receipts, drivers and riders alike. Numbers don't lie... people do. And these app companies do not care about the rider or driver, only about $$$$. So the drivers and riders have to care about each other in order to have a good shared trip together. The apps are not perfect because humankind that created it is not perfect. But what a journey this technology has created!

They have ZERO clue as the culture and realities of American Driving. There is no accountability, no metrics or processes to ensure quality customer service. It's like everything else operated by Uber/Lyft. I especially love when they try to tell me its their Final Decision on something. Umm no Bxtch, you don't even know anything about American Driving or my business operations -- Nothings final until its resolved and I SAY SO. lol

In March 2023 I had to cancel an UBER X ride when there was 6 passengers. When they reorder for XL, it would not match with me. It kept matching with someone 5 min away. I'm not sure it wouldn't match with me because I had just canceled on them.

Chris, liability is important, but you give Uber/Lyft and their Insurance Carriers too much credit. Insurance companies main functionality is to deny claims and pay out as least as possible regardless -- Just like banks, insurance companies have less regulations than they've ever had before. If you allow more than 4 passengers on a standard ride, the bigger issue is the driver not being compensated for the added pax and being taken advantage of. If you let 6 people ride and there are in 6 legal seats with seatbelts, neither your insurance nor Uber/Lyfts will deny a claim based strictly on that -- They deny claims regardless all the time -- Allowing those 6 people is "completely lawful" -- It's YOUR vehicle and YOUR business, therefore your decision. There's a reason why personal injury law is such a big business in every city, they have to incessantly sue insurance companies to pay fair compensation. In other videos you go on about Liability which is in error or not true, or doesn't apply in every state. In Colorado for example, if a parent/guardian chooses to have their child ride unrestrained, the liability is strictly on the parent, not the driver. Besides the fact that any driver who would allow that is an idiot, nevertheless, the liability lies with exactly who it should. Same with a big HDTV, they are assuming all the risk, not you. And speaking of liability, no one should be operating a rideshare business without LLC status anyway. Sole Proprietors and such are just asking for trouble in ANY number of scenarios as they and their assets can be held liable in potential civil litigation. Distinguishing ones self from their business is essential and just makes sense. This is also why I opt-out of Arbitration Clauses with both Lyft and Uber -- I'm not relinquishing my rights to sue either platform if its necessary.

You forget one very important thing about having an XL car. during festivals you can take only XL rides - I Made 800$ a day doing XL rides only during certain festivals in my area

I have been driving Uber x for over 7 years,and I have gotten rides that were 5 people in a 2018 Chevy trax 😐😐. But not anymore.

I have a uberXL and in my area it’s not worth it most of the time. Because there’s not many other XL’s in my area I get the rides that are 7 minutes and 15 minutes away, constantly getting these rides that I’m not making money from, because the are far away. I actually unchecked my UberXL preference in my settings.

I have a Cadillac xt6 - Uber classified me as an xl but my 2nd row has 2 captain chairs limiting to only 5 passengers including the front seat. Is there an option to do xl with only a 5 passenger capability. Thanks in advance. Love your videos

UberX pax will catfish you for your vehicle. I have experienced this. I deal with it at the airport all the time. Cant tell you how many rides ive turned down due to this lately. Left em on the curb in Colorados freezing temps no fks given. I ONLY do XL for airport trips now. Got sick of people crying or rating me low for not taking more than 6 cus my vehicle "clearly" seats 7 as one pax threw a fit over. We market butts in seats not luggage space and pax dont conprehend that either. Also im not a delivery vehicle-so no store pickups either and I will leave pax if i see them trying to use me as a mover. Its sad we have to be this mean lol.

I am not willing to take a cancellation hit. The insurance explanation should be enough to calm the situation. Wait 5 and no show them. Send a message through the app and explain your situation.

I would rather 1 large person in an xl than 4 skinny people in an xl. I am not seeing that the fare matches the fee. Up to 4-6 should be for suv or mini van.

Some drivers are 0% acceptance. I'm finally 43% from 27% and 45% cancel rate. Uber won't penalize you. I'm a 5 star driver with 12,000 rides

My acceptance rate is way lower than that. I believe my acceptance rate is 25%. You don't get in trouble,they will sign you off automatically if you continue denying requests. But you can just sign right back on. Your acceptance rate doesn't affect you.

9:10 I really wish the Uber driver app allowed us as drivers to help passengers modify their trip type. This happens a lot people accidentally order an Uber x for a group of 6. I don't want to miss out on the fare but at the same time I want to make sure I get paid the proper amount I usually tell the customer about the pay difference in trip types and they are pretty good about add the difference to the tip. I would have assumed that regardless of ride type ordered as long as the the number of riders doesn't exceed seatbelts the insurance shouldn't be an issue.

Hi. As an Uber XL Driver, do you also do UberX? Or do you just keep it at XL only and take rides from single riders who are willing to pay a little extra for the XL maybe cause you are the only uber available or because you are closer then any UberX drivers?

Change your transmission fluid at least every 30k miles , timing belt every 105k and it should be good to you.

XL is the worst and shouldn't even exist , Uber is underselling themselves. I'm a black/SUV driver and on slow days I may turn on x but not XL. The XL passengers are always trying to do too much , either 10 drunk college kids with cups or people moving to storage units etc. People who call for SUVs don't do that and I get paid double maybe triple depending on the distance . There are no yellow taxis or non luxury car services competing with 6+ passenger vehicles, so why is uber giving people a cheaper option . It hurts SUV drivers and also X drivers by allowing them to squeeze into 1 car instead of calling 2 cars .

Even though you signed up as an Uber xL driver. You can also check the box for the Uber x. So,you can still receive requests for both. If you want them both to be on at the same time,you have the option too.

If you cannot safely transport the number of people or number of bags, it is best to cancel the trip and contact support right away and let them know what happened.

“Hello I’m driving a Lincoln MKT Luxury SUV with seating for four adults, and no third row seats.” That’s my text after every XL request. The car qualifies as a Uber XL and often the customer doesn’t see the text and they are surprised to find six is too many.

If your car can only seat 4 other people safely than it really doesn't qualify as an XL. Somebody made a mistake. You really need to call in and have it changed or stop using it because you're just going to keep having that issue. Xl clearly states 6

So youre saying drivers should "pass" on rides with lots of stuff or luggage or groceries when the app specifically says Uber XL is for 6 people OR people with extra luggage. You say that person with extra luggage is slowing you down? where are you going in such a hurry that you cant wait a few minutes for people to get their stuff? what a whiner

Keep it moving and cancel… It always works best/ trying to be a good merchant of change is not negotiable at all…. They will always try to run game and say they ordered an XL… I don’t do XL and they will lie right in your face. Cancel and move on…
