FRONT PORCH MAKEOVER 2021|Paint Front Door, Mortar Wash Brick, DIY Restoration Hardware Dupes & More

Hi Homies!
My FRONT PORCH/PATIO and FRONT DOOR was in desperate need for a MAKEOVER! I painted the Front door green, DIY Restoration Hardware duped’ some pots, Painted my Terra-cotta pots with baking soda, Stenciled a herringbone tile floor then taught myself how to lay & grout/mortar wash Brick, dropped a drill on my foot, bought new plants, ruined all of my manicures & went shopping at the hardware store almost every day for three months! - but it was all worth it!
I love my front patio/porch now- but this is only part one! I have so many ideas and bringing them to life will be in part two of my front porch makeover!

I love how honest you are I really love this video because instead of just editing out the part where it was a mess in the middle that you didn’t like not that I thought it was a mess from here but I love the fact that you left it in there and showed people the real process because sometimes things get screwed up or we don’t like something. Awesome make over! A suggestion for you: the pots need to be waterproofed before you paint them. If you don’t, the paint will peel off from the moisture of the dirt and watering. I usually use Thompson water seal, works great.

I saw the thumbnail picture and thought "what a beautiful porch!" I wanted to see how you did it. I'm glad that you filmed the whole process. I mean even the part where you realized that you didn't like the painted version. I enjoyed watching the journey you went on to get the look you wanted. You were so transparent and honest. Proud of you. Tip...always put a little lemon juice in your water when your removing the grout and cleaning up tiles. It helps remove it easier.

@@TaneaTerracotta haha your welcome. Built houses for a long time. Only let grout dry to a slight haze then start working it....AT AN ANGLE...to grout joints so you don't pull out the grout. But always....always...put lemon juice in water. Oh and use a big sponge, wash it out every few tiles. After dry it's still going to have a haze. Get a cheap throw away mop. Make lemon juice water. I usually use half a bottle to 2 gallons of water or so. Mop with lemon juice. Glad I could help you out. Really proud of you for jumping on in there.

The brick was a much better choice because they will last a whole lot longer and easier to maintain -- the paint will just eventually peel. Beautiful job. I am doing the same thing now finding we all have to work with the kind of porch we have.

Looks great. Good job. I’ve painted my house, put up planter boxes, new shutters and redid my front porch raining from bars to an X pattern. Now I’m dealing with a cracked porch floor. It needs a leveling product so I can fill in where the water puddles. Then I may consider a stencil or the brick veneers.

Very nice and I would hardly call you "lazy", you must be really proud of the work you did. I once did one brick wall in my master bedroom with a stencil to give it an antique white brick look and surprisingly, it came out great. To this day, I look at it and I say "I did that" LOL!! Looks great 👍 A tip, I just saw on another video... if you cut the bottom out of the pots, and make sure there's soul underneath (like clear the rocks from under), then after 3 or 4 months the plants roots go into the ground and you don't have to water them yourself anymore and nobody can steal your plant. 😉

@@TaneaTerracotta Aww... Thank you. I am a senior citizen and I don’t generally get called a gem or anything sharp or shiny anymore...an antique maybe, but not a gem. 😄. Thank you for your comment. Your video inspired me to decorate my long front porch and my patio deck. I think my husband and I will be digging up a small tree from our side yard and repotting it to put on our porch. I actually saw that from a different video. But we have a wall portion on the porch between two windows that is bare. I thought a small potted tree surrounded by potted tree would look adorable there. I did put outdoor rugs under my porch bench and also in the corner under the chairs. I put up two hanging plants and I put ferns on the corner tables. Now I just need that tree and bright flowers to finish it off. I can’t wait for the finished product. I haven’t decided what to do with the back deck yet. I’m sure I will figure something out. 👍. I hope your toe is healed from the drill dropping on it. Ouch! I live in northern Illinois, so have to get plants that can handle the crazy weather we have here. LOL
