A10 Warthog After Upgrade Shocked Russia and China
The A-10 Warthog can fly with one engine, one elevator, half of its tail, and half of a wing missing. This aircraft simply cannot be shot down. In service since 1976, the Warthog has had a stellar almost 50-year career, and thanks to a long line of upgrades, it’s not retiring anytime soon - at least not until the 2040s. And for good reason too: no other aircraft in the US inventory can offer better attack support than the Warthog. The only American fighter in history built from the ground up to deliver close air support to troops on the ground, the Warthog has saved more lives than most and is the reason why many vets can smell their flowers today. Now, with Ukraine in need of air-based support to repel Russia’s invasion, the A-10 Warthog seems to be coming to the rescue once again, as it has done time and time again after triumphing in quite an interesting development story.

Oh go and stick it up your Booz Allen Hamilton, the USA's DoD and the corporations that serve them are just as bad as any area of the government for ridiculous financial irresponsibility and outright embezzlement. The Fortune 500 process is notorious - have a read of "war is a racket" if you need to know the roots. America as the owner of the world's largest standing army, invading afghanistan and Iraq... the "founding fathers" would have thought you were joking to be told of the extent of American military imperialism and taxation + loans in the 19th and 20th centuries. Actually, it isn't hard to fly at a low altitude because it becomes natural. Once you learn to fly altitude means very little. The same with speed except that your turning radius expands. As for weapon selection, it is usually a rotating selector switch for the station where the weapon is located. If it is an electronic weapon then it will have its own control panel and is set up before a run. I am not taking anything away from the men/women that fly the Hog but like all other planes, the pilots adjust to them.

Yes maybe, but actually flying it is, from the vets who flew it, easy very easy which makes sense they have the toughest job. A lot of effort was made to make it fly as easy as possible. Now when it comes to actually do it’s job and to (what to) attack is dependent on the pilot’s skill.

@@willestus9120 I never personalty served. But in terms of the most recent conflict we have been in desert storm the a-10 has not stood up to the challenge. Also f-35a/b is a multi role strike craft its not just a dedicated ASF, same for the f-15/16 and while those aircraft might of been primarily an ASF they still had good ground attack capabilities and are more then capable of launching a wide assortment of air to ground missiles. In desert storm the a-10 ran ground attack missions alongside f-111s, f-15s, f-4s, f-16s, f-117s, f-35s, and typhoons. All these aircraft ran relatively equal missions and all entered the conflict at the same time serving till the near end. By comparison the a-10 did worse then nearly all of the listed aircraft only coming above the f-117, and f-16 iirc while its contemporaries performed far better then it. This is due to a wide variety of reasons but the primary one is that, the type of war the a-10 was built for does not exist anymore nor will it ever exist again.

@@mutingp you know what you are one of the people that tried to get the a-10 replaced but i have news there is no flat earth 5g does not affect the human body essential oils does not cure every desease and the a-10 is a rugged durable aircraft that any air force pilot/army soldger will tell you it's a great aircraft that can keep going for another 25 years so take that and take it up your blowhole and be quiet. and if you keep hitting your fingers you probobly are bad with any tool you use what next gonna stab your hand with a screwdriver and blame the tool.

The USAF has suggested replacing it with the F15, F22, and F35. The A10 flies 10 times as often as the F15 which had better air worthiness then the other two. Plus the A10 cost 10 times less to fly then all three of it's suggested replacements. Yet the USAF keeps trying to get rid of it. It's easier to learn to fly then a supersonic fighter, and due to it's high lift and slower speed it's more forgivable of mistakes that would cause a FUBAR in the F22 or F35.

Enjoyed this synopsis but, there is one mistaken statement I believe. The Gau-8 was NOT developed with the AX program. It was actually an Army weapon which, after being designed, proved to be too cumbersome for ground transport and still be effective. It was then given to the Air Force to develop a method of deployment in close air support.
@bill45colt
@bill45colt Жыл бұрын
the army started the airplane design on army funding.,,,,if you remember,,,,at the time there was a big pissing pentagon contest over who had the most planes. Turns out the airforce had the largest airforce,,,,,the second largest airforce in the world was the us army. What with caribou, c 130, all sorts of observation aircraft and helicopters, and others, the army had a really big force. Air force was jealous. Sooooo lets pull out cargo planes, ground attack, and some observation. At this time,, the A10 development was pretty well along and veeerrry well funded. Yet we were short on immediate wars,,,so the airforce got the program,,,,not to continue it but to cancel and to use the funding for other things. As fate would have it,,,all of a sudden we had these far east uprisings and a need for ground support. Air force jumped in then and finished development. At the time, air force pilots saw the A10 as a down grade and insult to their high mindness of high and fast and most were shunned who were A10 drivers and they didnt want to have to transfer to that lowly system. BUT fate changed the junk yard dog into a real performance proving hero,,,,and we have what we have today,,,us old timers can remember the way the story played out,,,,regards
