In this Uk travel episode I take you around Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, England. Formerly home to the Harpur-Crewe family, over the years the house fell into a serious state of disrepair and eventually, after the death of the last family member to live here, Sir Vauncey Harpur-Crewe, the estate passed into the hands of the National Trust. Calke Abbey is such a unique property in that the National Trust decided to preserve the house in all of its decay rather than taking the option to restore it to its former glory and I love the fascinating story this tells.

As an American, I was shocked when you said that the cottages weren't that old...built in the 1800s! That's so amazing and you're so lucky to live in a place with some many old and beautiful places/buildings ❤ Thanks for taking us along on your travels!

Haha well I think we’re spoilt with history here. I can pop down the road and go to a pub that dates back to 1189 😅 so in comparison these cottages are relatively new 😳 Thinking of it, perhaps I should do a pub tour as that might be interesting. Don't forget we have buildings that date into the latter 1700s in New England. Most notably are the buildings in Boston, Massachusetts.

My mother grew up in Manchester and told me she came from a small village of Cheadle Heath. She has now long passed away so when I found you videos I love to watch them and I think of her. I am a history buff and love to watch to see the historical sites. You share so much beauty year round. Thank you

We’ve had really heavy frosts the last couple of days, today was the best one so far! More frosts and even snow are forecast over the next few days so fingers crossed as that’ll be magical 😍

So many thoughts as I viewed this video today. The shot you did of the fallen leaves - so many subtle color variations and shapes but it was a lovely image composed by nature! The thick frost looks almost artificial. The Christmas tree in the greenhouse, brilliant to decorate it with gourds and peppers from the garden. And finally, I wondered about the cat, and, romantically, if he is descended from generations of other cats who lived there. Doubtful, but you never know. I like the idea of a very long and enduring cat lineage.

I came Here few time to do a bike fun. Highly recommend. The gardens are on my next to see list. Saw the house And without giving more all i can say i was stunned. It is the only historic house i have seen in the UK that gives you this experience. Please go And visit it. You will understand what i mean. I hope nothing will change from i believe march or april next year, as i want to show it to my dearest friend.xx
