In the UK the bbc is incapable of making a period frame now without including black characters even though it may be set in 18th and 19th century Britain. You don't really see deep dark skin that often over here (it's slowly changing though as more Somalians are moving north). It's nothing to do with racism or politics. People with a lot of melanin were just not a part of the genetic pool and nowadays most African immigrants settle in other countries, more to the south. It made Christmas and birthday shopping easy because all I had to do was find some Disney crap. I think we had a local Disney or Hallmark store that sold it. My best find was a BATB music box in 1991. I just looked it up, and the value has apparently gone way up.
