My BN had fry! I'm taking this opportunity to take some macro shots as they grow!

I used a breeder box that has a pump and I inserted one divider that has slats on the bottom with the eggs on the flow side. The water was constantly flowing over them and pushing into the other side of the breeder box. All the detritus is pushed to the side away from the eggs and I had zero fungus losses. I used a turkey blaster to remove junk in the breeder box as well.

Sounds like the perfect system! I'm gonna have to give that a try

Did you feed them while they were in the Breeder box?
@geoaquariums21902 жыл бұрын
Yes you can!

Curious why you pulled them and didn’t let the dad do his job naturally letting fry stay in with him? You’d be surprised how much of a good job the dads do with fanning and keeping the eggs good. Your tank is smaller and your fry when they got to free swimming would be able to get to food easily. Loved the video and just subbed.

So I've seen other people do it and wanted to give it a try. The benefit is that you can produce way more young raising them yourself. Using this method I was getting a batch of fry around every 2 weeks running 2 males and 3 females

@@geoaquariums2190 : steph is right, males do a good thing fanning the eggs and caring for the hatched fry, in caves, and other ancistrus never eat the fry, so that is a big advantage as well to just let them do their thing in a breeding tank with wood and caves. No interventions, no extra effort. I bred a lot of super red ancistrus in only 1 year i have my breeding group, or shall i say : they do it themselves, no expertise needed.... I don't even care about feeding the fry, since i have plants and wood and they feed on wood (bacteria and/or woodfiber) & infusoria. Of all the fish i breed, the ancistrus is the less time-consuming and easy fish to breed...

@@bartdeckers5338 I've noticed that as well! It's just a fun option to try and push your production if you were selling and shipping! I appreciate your feedback!

The whole purpose of artificial spawning achieves two things. One: it allows you to control the survival and spawn rates a little more than letting them have free roam where they can starve without you seeing them. This increases your output greatly. The second reason that artificial spawning is used is to put less stress on the male, who essentially starves himself for up to a week and a half. This requires a refeeding period, which can decrease the output, which isn’t what you’re aiming for if you’re breeding for your paycheck. Also, some parents aren’t nearly as nice, since some strains are overly aggressive, which makes them bad parents, no matter how good their colors are (betta are especially susceptible to this, with hyperaggressive domestic males in comparison to their wild counterparts).

Use a Cichlid egg tumbler. I just successfully reared a batch of albino bristlenose in it!
@geoaquariums21904 жыл бұрын
Nice! Did that seem to work well? What did you learn from that??
@DementedPiXi4 жыл бұрын
Worked perfectly. I had to use small nose long handled tweezers to remove 2 eggs that had fungus. But the continual water movement from the egg tumbler worked amazing. They all hatched and are now out in their grow out tank.

That's super cool.. that's a good idea! I might have to give it a try. I dont raise cichlids so I dont have one readily available, but if it works well it sounds like a worthy investment

Why mine are just hatching! First time seeing it. All happening naturally. Did not do anything about it.
@geoaquariums21904 жыл бұрын
That's the easiest way to do it! I just had a spawn of green dragons that I left to do it themselves! The perks of this system is to be able to separate and age different spawns in different grow out tanks, as well as being able to push out more fry! Thanks for watching!

Are plecos parental when it comes to there babies like will they kill them and how can I tell male from female
@azntactical48842 жыл бұрын
Males has bristles and the females don't. I am pretty sure the parents don't kill he babies. I have a male albino and common female that laid eggs in the community tank. Just waiting for them to hatch with the male protecting the eggs. The female is just roaming around the tank.

Using a breeder box or a different tank is your best bet!
