Talking about the type of top surgery procedure I had, the chance I had to have a different procedure, and how I feel about that decision now.

That totally makes sense. I think it's normal for our brains to be curious and think about the what-ifs. I have extensive scarring from self harming and will occasionally find myself thinking, 'I should have sought help sooner before it got so bad' but it's a part of me, it was a coping mechanism and I wouldn't be here without it so just try to reassure myself that I did the best I could at the time with the resources I had. And scars are totally bizarre - mine are forever changing from pink to white and smooth to raised etc so feel you on that one!

TheNimmish I self-harmed too, and my scars show up in sun tan season more than in Minnesota winters. I just remind myself that I need more reassuring than others who have a grip on the handle of life, which makes me want to research more about ways to cope and resolve my inner conflicts 😊

I feel both of you. Mine are more than ten years old now and sometimes they itch or rise, but on most days of the year I don't even notice or think about them anymore. I've shown up at my previous job in a tee because I actually forgot this might raise questions.

I really appreciate this video because a lot of people have moments of doubt before and/or after top surgery and so many people don't really talk about it. It's an important part of the experience, you've made a huuge life changing decision, it makes sense to have moments of doubt or fear or maybe feeling overwhemped at times. it seems like it's something that we've wanted for so long and ultimately makes us much happier on a daily basis, we're just so grateful for it that we feel almost.. guilty? to have negative thoughts pop into our heads every now and then. its really important for people to know (especially youth) that sometimes things like that will pop into your head and that its okay to feel that way for a split second, it doesnt mean you made a mistake or you're being ungrateful, it just means it's a huge change that takes time to adjust too. It's okay to think about the other possible outcomes, its okay to feel doubtful sometimes, whatever you're feeling in a temporary moment is okay because it'll pass and you're happier in the long run. Trans youth doesnt really get to hear that perspective very often because no one talks about it, they don't get to hear that it's okay and normal to feel that way sometimes, that it doesnt make you less of a man. so thank you for sharing so openly about something that's quite personal, i think it'll help a lot of people out to know that theres someone they can relate to on this topic. its also important to note that yes, these bad moments happen and its normal but there are also incredibly good moments that greatly outweigh the bad ones.

Funny thing about skin and scaring, I have never had a major surgical procedure but I did cut the top off my thumb once and also have tattoos. The thumb was a pretty deep cut and I remember the area pulsated and hurt sometimes even years after it had healed, one of my tattoos also would get a little bumpy with hot weather for years after having it done. Eventually this "behaviour" stopped so yeah, scars are weird that way so I can imagine yours make you wonder at times. Anyway I am glad you are happy with the results of your top surgery, cheers!

I'm entirely in favour of the sticky-out bit of hair. but holy hell do I ever know this feeling. i'm so not keen to get double-incision but I'm probably gonna end up with it bc I'm... not flat-chested. also yikes I didn't realise surgery scars can change colour?
@davyjones6949
@davyjones6949 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe we should add here that the tendency for scars is always that they get lighter over time and are usually a little lighter than your skin color when fully healed. Just sometimes they are more pink, purplish, white or transparent, because they are not pigmented and thus affected by blood flow (this is mostly true for deep and big scars, while surface scars tend to be more white).

Im still in the phase of obsessively googling info about surgery (which is actually how I discovered your videos. I've been binge watching them and youre great btw!). I'm torn between major breast reduction (as small as I can talk them into without a doctor's note saying Im Offically Trans) and full FTM mastectomy and "just sucking it up and learning to love my body." Most of the time, I do know that I *want* surgery, and the only times I don't are when I get really tangled up in other peoples' opinions and ideologies about what is "natural"... also because the recovery period seems hard as heck. You've mentioned so many times in several different videos how glad you are that you went through with it and how worth it it was to you, even though recovery was unpleasant, and that's reassuring to me. @other viewers: do any of you want to share your experiences/thoughts like this? It's something I spend an embarrassing amount of time thinking about. A mind reader would be incredibly bored.

Mister Parker I have very short "masculine" hair (shorter than my profile pic) and my parents and other family members tell me every day that they don't like it and I "look like a boy"(they see that as bad)....... but at the end of the day it was MY DECISION! and it's a decision I am happy with so just bear 🐻 with it..... if YOU are happy that's what's important! 🖤

This is really important for me to hear, as I'm going back up to my GIC in a couple of weeks to discuss my Top surgery routes, and I'm leaning towards Peri, though I'm also looking at DI in case I get told that's better for my current shape... It's certainly a mess of emotions and confusion at the moment~! Also, having to consider surgeons, too - thinking heavily about Yelland in Brighton [mostly coz he was recommended to me, and secondly because he's based near my sister's house. I'd hate to travel all the way back to Romford while still in pain lol~!]. Decisions, decisions...

Hello! *A little off video's topic* So I just delivered the final document to my lawyer, so I can legally change my name... and I'm feeling so scared... *like, REALLY SCARED* that it's not going to work. I know that by different countries, your experience were/would be not the same, but I was looking for a video of you if you ever talked about it and I couldn't find it... so if you don't have one, could you talk about this process, your feelings about it, how hard or easy were/would it (be). - Btw, I love your videos and most of them I can relate a lot and it helps me so much. I'm glad you can openly talk about your surgery, I'm not sure how it's going to be for me. haha

Helena Crispim Hi there. I am also from the UK and here it is easy to change your name legally, you just fill out a deedpoll, which you can do for free. Changing your gender marker in passport etc is a bit harder but still relatively straightforward. For instance I'm still presenting as female (hence the bowl of chips as my pic) and using a female gender marker but I have changed my name to Graeme. I don't know if there would be much for Jamie to say about name changes since it's so straightforward here.

Gnot Thorne I wish I could reassure you, but being from the states in Minnesota where they HAVE NO LAWS makes me feel privelaged. I wish you only smooth and happy transition. I am a 'pioneer' of teaching these people about trans. I am in process of getting a paper together about how this all works in my state. I wish I could help more people in the right direction, but each state has different laws about it. Bless and keep safe! 🌈 Carry on and fight the good fight, we ARE out here, we DO exist, and we will not be pushed aside! HUGS!!

ILY JAMIE! I've been having top dysphoria for YEARS... I was a 34DDD, and they only approved "reduction" to a 34D. I want to be 'flat' but insurance in the states doesn't cover this type of procedure. I also need skin surgery for losing 60 lbs. ("man boobs") I like how you touch on all aspects of different types of suegeries that are available. I had breast reduction a few years ago. I wanted them GONE, but insurance wouldn't accept it. I have top dysphoria so bad I can't even begin to describe it. As long as they're gone, I don't care if I have nipples or not! Tattoo's can take care of that!! I've lost so much weight and have skin flaps all over that I HOPE I can get this covered under "man boobs" skin surgery!!" I gained back 20 lbs just because I HATED my skin flaps, and now I'm facing "failure" because my skin flaps made me want to gain some weight back so I avoid infections. You're so dang awesome for documentation of what you went through that you are in my top 5 KZfaq video people!! 😆😉 Keep the vids coming, you help us more than you know! ❤

There are oils or stuff like that to help the scar to disappear, I think you should talk about it to a doctor. I also have scars wich were purple or pink x) and I used something named "be-oil" for 2 months and now they are white and smaller! I don't know if you can get that oil cause I live in france but you can try to ask in a pharmacy, it usually don't cost a lot (I buyed mine for 10€)

Hallo. Thank you for posting videos about top surgery.. I have seen 5- 6 videos, you made about top surgery. I think, your videos are very informative and good. But there is one question, that I did not find an answer to.. I would really appreciate to know, if you regained sensibility sensibility in your niples after surgery ?..if yes, after how long time ?.. is the the same kind of sensibility as before top surgery ?.

wow.... that's really really cruel, icon... you don't know someone else's struggle. It's things like that that made me hide my suicidal thoughts and self harm growing up. I hid who i was and how much i was suffering because i didn't want to be seen as "Dramatic". So it was kind of a shock when I tried to kill myself, my mom was thrown for a loop when she saw my scars and I suffered for longer than I needed to, PURELY because people said shit like that. Seriously, maybe think about how your words will be taken before you speak.
