No one. The golden generation (Hendra Setiawan/Ahsan) are still showing their class despite the age difference. New generation pales in comparison to the old in MD/MS. I do think XD / WS / WD has evolved though

@@user-lz1xg3en9p I disagree on that.. Look up the new young MD pair from China. One has a very powerful smash comparable to Fu, and the other is rediculously fast on the front.

@user-lz1xg3en9p
@user-lz1xg3en9p 9 ай бұрын
@@hanktadaa Well one aspect for the rear court would be penetrative power. I'll give an example, Xu Chen had a darn killer smash (I think FHF actually said the hardest smasher on the CN squad was Xu Chen) but he had horrible success in MD (for many reasons), one of the main reasons was he couldn't pressure with his smash. In contrast, you have Flandy Limpele (Indonesia) who smashes nowhere near as hard but the conversion is a lot better due to the placement. Now, not all smashers are going to be converting their smashes, but if they can't, they should at least be able to keep smashing as needed (Zheng Siwei) and provide coverage accordingly. I still think the best male doubles specialists on the CN squad currently is Liu YuChen and Zheng Siwei but Liu lacks in mental fortitude and Zheng lacks penetrative power + gets nervous None of the other CN pairs have caught my eye yet. No X factor to show they can even compare to Liu Xiaolong / Qiu Zihan (3rd or 4th ranked MD when they were around iirc)

@@user-mq5rj1wb7v Just looking at medals is one way to look at it, certainly, but I think there's more to it than that. LCW has never won Olympic gold, yet we consider him one of the best. In this regard, I would consider players such as Kim Dong Moon and Tony Gunawan, the latter having won gold medals at the Olympics and the WC with THREE different doubles partners.

men's doubles has not been the same since fu haifeng. with that kind of artillery in the field, steep, fast, well-placed and relentless, you simply could not rely on defense. you had to get technical at the net and play for control, forcing your opponent to hit from below the tape, and you had to follow your shuttles to the net quickly and assert dominance at the net. some of this was fine-tuned by lee yongdae and others in response to this kind of weaponry, and now it's pretty standard training some people have compared fhf to goh v shem, but they are not comparable. goh v shem had a beautiful smash, probably the most high-jumping, artful and steep smash the sport has seen, but almost no one had the jungle cat fierceness of fhf's overall attack. he just kept coming at you with blinding energy output until he put a hole in your defense

His smash not as fast as Tan Boon Heong samsh but I don't know why it looks so heavy. You'll know just by hearing the sound.
@alfthealien
@alfthealien 3 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right. There are smashes that are “fast” measured in terms of initial speed, fast in the beginning but may slow down considerably with distance. Then there are “heavy” smashes that may not have the fastest initial speeds but they slow down less with distance travelled. FH’s smashes are more of the second type. They are typically generated using a heavier racket and require more overall strength.
