This is a neat design and pretty nifty app, but it’d be far better to get the Instax Mini Evo. This little thing looks like something that would come in a box of cereal. I’ll probably still get one, because I’m wired that way.

I feel like this camera would be a hundred times more usable if it just had a peephole viewfinder (like those super tiny ones on older Barnacks) and a tiny, tiny mirror on front for composing selfies. I certainly don't need to be giving this the attention to composition that I would with an X-system camera, but I do think increasing the size by like 10% to add room for those things would just make this so much easier to take good photos with.
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 9 ай бұрын
I felt like that too, but it if you check my photos at the end of the video, all but the wide view of me with the big hands, and the pavilion reflection were ALL shot blind without composing. Most actually end up ok, and that in turn allows a much quicker way of shooting without formal composition.

Given the seeming public commitment to advancing photography and photojournalism they made with the GFX100II, maybe a “pro” version of this can be considered for reportage where it needs to be very discrete. 25 megapixel. Point, shoot and go. Or a higher spec version for accessibility folks amongst us who cannot operate the typical camera but still want to enjoy quality photography

I think the concept is great so long as the ergonomics of holding and using it are good. I may be inspired to put my 20mm on my FF camera and just walk around snapping images and never looking through it … just to see what gets captured.

It's like a tiny digital version of the SupaSnaps Snappit, although the Snappit probably made better images on 126 format film, and I think it was even given away with film purchases, so hard to beat on value for money terms, too.

My mind is trying to wrap around this. Basically, these insta cameras are digital cameras with the ability to print on the fly or connected to a printer. I am still wondering what the appeal is, that being said, I shoot with digicams, though they tend to be at times equally lo fi quality. This is a very niche market, but I guess one with funds to buy printer paper. Thanks Gordan for your review! Interesting concept if not built on a bit of redundancy of tech. The 50 shot limit is kind of odd, but I get the appeal it could have.
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, it can be confusing at first! Basically they do cameras with printers builtin, and printers by themselves. This Pal is new for them as it's their first instax camera that needs a separate printer to print.

Wow, after reading the comments, I’m very surprised how many people talk about environmental issues and how they hate the camera I just shoot on a Polaroid and wanted to get a cheaper small camera overall and I got so excited seeing this tiny little weird camera because…I’m not sure lol but I like it. After reading the comments, I’d rather get the instax mini evo than this since they’re the same price and I’d appreciate it better than the pal

This would be a fun little (literally) birthday present for my spouse, who loves to shoot blindly (esp trying to get photos of family, who hide their faces whenever they see a camera or phone camera)... or getting cute photos of dogs or anything else. Just pull it out of a pocket, aim, shoot. Add the Square printer and we will have mini, wide, square printers to choose from when printing. 😁 The problem with Liplay or Evo cameras is they only sent pics to the app AFTER you print the pic...how stupid it that.

A very fair review! But I think it will flop because it needs one hand to hold the camera & another finger to push the shutter button. As for image quality it looks like a camera from around 1999 - 2001, maybe equal to one of the tiny Kodak cameras.

I still have an EE action cam that I really enjoyed using because it had no screen, not knowing what I had until using an app to download the photos. The EE action cam was much higher resolution though and also came with a WIFI watch which was a really cool idea. I'd really like one of these Fuji cameras but ideally a little cheaper or at least in a package with a printer. Thanks for the detailed video as always!

Why do I like the look of this over a phone? Is it because it's so ugly it's reached endearing again? Fun for a couple of hours and in the cupboard it goes to be tossed out in 10 years when it's found again under the small spare change empty batteries and other miscellaneous junk as you notice the plastic has gone bad and is sticky. Bit jarring to think companies are selling this factory to landfill junk but refusing to add a power adapter or charger to their +$2000 camera's.

The 50 shot limit seems to ruin one of what I had expected to be the main use cases for this camera. Here in Japan at least, its very common to have an Instax handed around the tables of a wedding party, or other similar event. This seemed like a perfect evolution to have one of these handed around. But, 50 shots seemingly wouldn't do it as I imagine people wouldnt practice the same restraint that they do with a real Instax. Seems an oversight.
