Well said. Some photographers sound like switching from a zoom to a prime is just a natural progression. And say 'just zoom with your feet'. No, that's not how this works. At all. There are legitimate reasons to want the freedom of a zoom. So this was refreshing. I totally agree, there is a time and a place for both.

Cheers, totally agree it really isn't as quick and easy as some people make out haha Love using a good prime but as you say there is a place for both for sure.

Beautiful photos guys, I switch from the X-T30ii to the X-T3. I mainly use the 35mm f1.4 and the 23mm f2. I only use the 18-55mm for videos and some product shots.

Thanks very much appreciate that ✌🏼 Great camera and lens choices too, you ate covered for pretty much everything with a kit like that. 18-55mm is the perfect video lens isnt it.

Personally, I'm a both person. Different for different situations. I've got the 23 f1, the 80mm macro, the 18-55 kit, and the 50-230 xc lens. They all have their uses. More importantly though, is that a lofi remix of the Castlevania theme?

I think having both is probably the way to go. That's a pretty solid selection you have right there, covers you for pretty much everything. I have no idea what the song is tbh 😂

Amazing light and photos. I too use a mix of zooms and primes. 16-55 for flexibility (although its quite heavy, which can be an issue); 23mm f2 for street; Viltrox 13mm f1.4 for ultra wide landscape shots; and the older 56mm f1.2 for portraits. I want to get a 35mm and love what I'm seeing in your 35mm f2 photos. However, am tempted to buy the older (and much slower focusing) 35mm f1.4 because the rendering looks special (similar to the 56mm f1.2). Your 35mm f2 is much more practical then the older f1.4 version but I'm a low photographer 🙂

Cheers Brian appreciate it man! That's a nice selection you have, I am very tempted by the 16-55mm is it as good as everyone says? Yeah the 35mm is great at least for the style of photos I take and F2 is nice for giving the photo lots of depth when I want that look you know. Each to their own, there are so many lenses out there it can be hard to choose and you just cant have them all. Unless you have an endless wallet haha

@@MacnTeensVisualsYes, the 16-55 is a fantastic lens, although it's heavy compared with the 18-55, which is also a great lens. I'm excited to test one of Fujifilm's newer lenses for the 40 megapixel cameras (e.g. 33mm 1.4) but I think Viltrox is also introducing some great lenses that are cheaper than Fujifilm lenses. The 35mm F2 is a fantastic lens, so compact and beautiful rendering. I have the 23 F2 and love that also for street.

I only use prime lenses when I know exactly what I want to photograph and the conditions on site. Otherwise, I always go for the xf 18-135mm. Sure, the zoom lens corner sharpness isn't perfect at every focal length and it's not the fastest lens either (OIS helsp though) , but a missed photo is worse than a negligible blurriness in the very far corners of your images. Also, if people notice any corner softness in your images, then those images weren't even good to start with.

Couldn't agree more Philip, I do love the 35mm and I will continue to use it a lot but missing photos is certainly worse than having some corner softness. You're spot on with that last comment too 👌

I've been shooting since 1970 and back then the primes were king because the zooms weren't all that sharp and most were very slow. With time and better computers to both help design and build the lenses the zooms are so much better. Still a zoom is a series of compromises and not all of then favor better image quality, speed, size and price. Even today a good 23mm prime will usually be better than a zoom at the same 23mm setting. Will you see it in the images, probably not unless you are a very high magnification pixel peeper.

Yep I would say you're right, I haven't used many prime lenses yet tbh but the 35mm is really sharp corner to corner especially compared to the 18-55mm. But as you say, you don't really notice that unless you are pixel peeping and I imagine when printing it wouldn't make a huge difference especially if you stop down a little on the 18-55mm.

Great shots! (Just wondering) Did you intentionally take those images under exposed to showcase the presets? If so, that was a great idea. I have no prime lenses yet, but I plan to get a 50mm that, with my crop sensor, would be an 80mm. Keep up the great work!

Cheers Jon appreciate it ✌🏼 No they are actually just exposed for the highlights in these shots because they were all backlit it. The 50mm does sound nice actually, may be quite tight a lot of the time though but I bet the images look super nice with it 👌🏼

I'm looking at possible two lenses on my list one an other prime 18mm f2 or the 18-55 zoom I've seen the zoom selling at very good prises second hand and it seems to be a good lens and its not to big to carry around all day plus its stabilized thanks for the help enjoyed this I have Subbed you now.......

Two great lens choices right there. The 18-55mm is just such a great all rounder to have in the bag plus with the stabilisation it's the perfect video lens if you do any kind of video stuff. Thanks for the support we appreciate it ✌

I bought a Fuji x-t30ii + 27mm, I'm not sure if I bought an 18-55mm or a 35mm

Great choice, the 27mm would be a great focal length. One I would love to try out. Both the 18-55mm and 35mm are great to be honest. 👍🏼
