Great first review of the new lens only in 4 minutes ! Your video contains all necessary information, straight forward. Thank You :) Btw, I was considering to buy "old" version of 56mm, but now, with image upgrade of the new one, the winner is obvious.

X-H2 is not just the highest resolution x-mount camera, it's the highest resolution APS-C camera to date. About the new 56, yeah I think it deserves the "mark ii" moniker. Unlike the updated 10-24 which only has a new aperture mechanism and WR with identical optical performance, the new 56 is different enough from the OG to be a completely new lens. The AF should be good enough, especially considering the OG was entirely adequate for its intended purposes.

As a 56mm MKI user, my main reason for upgrading would be the autofocus system. While I understand it’s not the same motor as the recent lens replacements, does it do a better job at acquiring focus and holding focus while using AF-C focus mode. The old can not be trusted.

Glad I kept my original 56 1.2. I like the quality of the image better, as it’s not so clinical. With the XT5 and using limit focus, it’s very fast! Save yourself a lot of money by keeping the one you have or get a used W version. Plus it’s a lot smaller in size for Street photography.

There may be a good reason for not including the linear focusing motor. Someone the other day pointed out in a review the reason for 35mm 1.4 very unique look is because when it focuses it moves all the glass inside in lens. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was the same with the 56mm.

Problem of upgrading to a 40 mp crop sensor is that all my exiting lenses would show weird artifacts on images. I can’t really afford to buy newer lenses like the 56mm 1.2 “wr” version to compliment the image quality of the new 40mp sensor camera. I think my x-pro3 will be my last camera from fujifilm if this is the way fujifilm is heading towards….that is, the higher mp cameras. 🙁

So the naming is like the 27mm F2.8 R and R WR, except this time it's actual improvements and not just an aperture ring. I'm calling it now, knowing my luck, they'll release the 14mm F2.8 R WR next month seeing as I just bought a 14mm F2.8 R.

It’s a stepping motor because adding linear motors to all that lens would’ve made it much bigger and much heavier. I use the 50mm 1.0 with the H2S and I see no issues with auto focus while taking photos so I expect the same kind of performance from the 56mm. Even manually focusing the 50mm with the stepping motor is smooth as butter for video, so a stepping motor doesn’t always mean jumpy, slow focus pulls.

I believe they do not call it “II” because the optics are all different inside. It is different than the other “II” lenses they have released like the 10-24mm, because those were optically the same.
@paceyombex
@paceyombex Жыл бұрын
I think it's the exact opposite, and the new 56 actually should get the "mark ii" moniker because it's more than just an update, with 10-24 as an example. 10-24 didn't (and shouldn't) get the "mark ii" because it's practically the same lens, with added bits. The new 56 on the other hand, is almost an entirely different lens, and since Fuji themselves claimed the new 56 will replace the old one, yes it actually deserves the "mark ii" moniker.

@@muffinberg7960 if you're just going to use this for video conferencing I would save yourself a whole lot of money and get the 23mm f2 lens. It's much cheaper and will offer plenty of background separation (blurry background). I don't think 1.4 will offer significantly better images for the purposes of video conferencing. The higher the f stop value (aperture size) the more in focus everything is. Generally when you want to blur out the background you want a lower number and/or a longer focal length. In your case a longer focal length won't work because of the space limitations of a desk environment. If photos are your primary goal and the conferencing is the secondary goal then go for the 1.4 and have fun.
