A much overlooked camera

Saludos la XH1 cuando pasas de modo foto a modo visualización o al menú y cuando rstornas al disparo se mueve mucho el cuerpo, ya desactive el modo boost y el estabilizador pero igual se mueve y suena es así, o la. Puedo llevar por garantía tiene hasta enero 2022 y se mueve cada vez que pasas de un modo a otro o al menú?

Would you be able to do a video on the metering dial at some point Greg… I haven’t got a clue how to use it. It seems no matter what way I turn that dial nothing seems to change within the image

Yes, I showed myself changing from a manual lens to a Fuji lens just before that. At 13:30 I show how I manual focus with an old manual lens.

Edgar, are your Nikkor lenses Ai/Ais and if they are do you find having the Ibis on makes it noticably easier for focus/stability when combined with focus peaking ? I'm looking purely at the benefits of the X-H1 over the X-T2 for my Nikkor Ais's and Minolta Rokkor's. Thanks

@@robinlennon4752, I have Ai, AiS and Af-S mounted on my XH1. I set up my camera for IBIS only when shooting. The main benefit I noticed for this combination is when shooting video. For pictures I help myself with a tripod or monopod most of the times. I did a video about this specific set up; please go to my videos and you will find it right away. Thanks.

Hi David, thanks for your comments. I'll go through in order... I haven't actually held an X-H2 yet, so can't compare the feel of the build. My gripe is they have moved to a PASM dial, which I don't like. I'm a bit old school. I do use the split screen to adjust focus when using the EVF, and think it's a great feature. Video was probably done on a lazy Saturday, and there's always birds around our place. I worked as a photojournalist for over a decade, and also ran my own newspaper in my town (Mt Evelyn) as I have an extensive background in newspapers since I left school and did my trade as a newspaper printer. I started shooting for the press back in the film days with my Olympus OM1, then with digital I went, as you guessed, with a couple of Nikon bodies. I always carried two cameras on the job, with different focal lengths to quickly swap between them. Then Fuji came out with their marvellous cameras and I used an X-T2 and the X-H1 as my two bodies. One with a 12mm lens, the other with, usually, an 18-135mm. You had some great cameras yourself in your past, and good to hear you still shoot film sometimes.

@GregCarrick Hi Greg, thanks for the insight much appreciated. Wow, I do envy you and the Newsprint Industry, my how it has changed! I would assume from your background as the youngies would call it 'horse & cart days' you developed and printed 'in house' with your OM-1 ? Speaking of Olympus I was very tempted recently to grab an OM-D-E-MX1 body (mostly for the ruggered weather sealed body) but to shoot a little Wildlife and try something different. I'm not sure where Fuji is heading in the future they seem to have forgotten the purist photographer and their original target market. Dare I say it I think they are 'focussing' more on the videographer / content creator. Personally, I think they've lost their soul a little yet I hope they adjust and surprise us all with a release of a XPro4 as I do like the feel and design of a film based experience the XT and Xpro lines bring. I was close to upgrading to an XT5 but again for me the body is getting way to compact, lite and plastic and without a vertical grip / power booster option it's a bit of a deal breaker however, I do like the Retro cage that Small Rig have avaiable to accommodate a decent grip I just don't need the million and one screw holes to attach video based gear (monitor, mic, etc) I just went into DigiDirect this morning in Brisbane to collect some 120mm FILM and had a second look at the XT5 as I too am not a fan of a PSAM dial it's why I left Canon and opted for mechanical dials on the X series as for me that process is a God send using the exposure triangle so easily without having to press this button plus that and getting lost in the settings just to compose and shoot. I love how the XT slows me down to think about how I want to expose it's why another reason that I cannot convert to the XH2 BUT in saying all that my eyes aren't as well as they use to and trying to see the dials can be a total PITA (pain in the ar$e) especially in low light situations it's why I researched a lot on You Tube on the XH2 and I do like the much improved and brighter EVF it offers as opposed to the lower what is on the XT5. Hmmmm.... I think I might have to revist 'Booray' channel on YT to watch his video on the advantages of the XH2's PASM dial compared to the mechanical dials on the XT5, he argues a very good point on why he prefers the XH2. Perhaps I may upgrade to the XH3 in future if they make a better build quality and not so Video orientated. It's why I am putting off a major upgrade until I hear if a XPro4 is released for my travel, street and landscape shooting purposes. So your a Victorian ? @@davidfromdownunder When I want IBIS I grab my X-H1. When I want to shoot some video on a tripod I use my X-T2. When I want to shoot normally I use my GFX 50R, always with vintage glass on board. The newer bodies don't offer me what I don't already have, and since I'm no longer making $$ from them, I can't justify the spend. I also have the X100V, but it has never won me over, it's just a competent small carry around. If I sold it I probably wouldn't miss it at all. I do have an X-E2 with infra red sensor, so that one is a keeper. Sorry, I've never followed footy, which is very unAustralian of me, but even shooting local matches never won me over either. Yes, I'm in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, although I grew up in the Pines (Frankston Nth). I love the Valley, it's full of wonderful places. Now I have to edit some images and video for my next KZfaq :) Cheers

Many Fujifilm lenses have a switch on the body of the lens which will turn stabilisation on and off. I haven't noticed any difference if the camera is tilted.

Yes, you can see at 5:30 I explain how the lens stabilisation also controls the IBIS.

The lens focal length setting makes a world of difference. Set it to suit your lens, and you can even make your own setting by changing it to match the lens you are using. It lets the IBIS know how to react to that lens. The thickness of the mount makes no difference, just go by the focal length of the lens you are using. Cheers

I don’t have an X-T1, but heard good things about them. I use the T2as my second body as it’s the same sensor etc as the H1. As for metering, I probably should be on top of it, but I just leave it on spot and adjust settings watching my histogram.

@@GregCarrick you have it alighlty wrong, the IBIS shood only be on continuos when shooting video only, if your shootin stills you should be in shooting only setting, also turn off your sensor cleaning, its a waste of time as a sensor cleaner, all it does is waste battery,

@@chrismarren9308 When shooting stills, you can have it on continuous to smooth out what you are seeing as you compose the shot. It just uses more battery.

No... I use mine professionally, and haven't had any issues with it.

@@GregCarrick maybe I am just new to Fuji. I switched lenses once and all my settings changed. Focus stacking, previewing the picture etc. I took the battery out and back to normal. I then updated the firmware on the lens and no issues. I just wonder if it will happen again.

The term Zone focussing predates digital cameras (for instance the Trip 35 is a Zone focus camera). It refers to prefocussing on a 'zone' and taking photos when the subject is in that zone. Very useful for street photography. The Ricoh GR series has presets for zone focussing also.

@@GregCarrick ahh, you mean setting a focus trap! I see...

@@mortenthorpe Well, that's a term that generally denotes a camera that is set to autmatically take a picture when a subject moves into the frame, without anyone having to be there to press the shutter... useful for wildlife shots etc, but the pre-focus detail is the same :)
