I think I fit into that niche where all the changes to the body design are beneficial. I don't use the 4-way pad on my X100F, my rear screen remains off virtually all the time, and I want USB-C on everything. The lack of HDMI out and proper headphone and mic support doesn't bother me, and I think the clamor for adding 4K recording to the X-Pro2 was from people who wanted the occasional capability to record, and not people who wanted a rangefinder video camera. The only feature preventing me from buying a X-Pro3 is I've come to rely on the leaf shutter and built-in ND filter in the X100 series. Still, well done Fujifilm, and thanks for the preview, Gordon!

Excellent preview, Gordon. I agree with you about the screen and with the hybrid finder, users will find a more immersive shooting experience than usual because of it. Setting up the camera to suit one's personal tastes is probably the only time it will be needed. Great work, Fuji-this camera will be the closest to the older film cameras I used to shoot with, but will produce better results.

Well ill admit its not as bad of a design as I thought. I wouldnt mind shooting with it. Im kinda curious the differences they have made since the x-e1 but thats what I can afford. I definitely can see some practical use in street photography where someone asks to see photos on the camera where you just tell them it actually doesnt have an lcd to view photos just sort of accidentally forgetting its more or less hidden. Ill be honest if I had the money id really like it. My only concern is would I be able to shoot video through the evf. If the answer is yes then really for me it sounds like a great camera. That said I dont have the money and ill never be able to afford it but oh well I can dream.

Great review - thanks. I personally welcome this camera, currently I have an X Pro 2 and a GH5 and whilst the GH5 is a brilliant device, it just doesn’t inspire me to pick it up and shoot with it....whereas the X Pro 2 does....especially with the 56mm f1.2 lens. I have a film camera too (a Nikon that belonged to my father) and still get excited when the film is developed...rather than instant gratification, so the X Pro 3 will go some way to combining that, with the benefit of digital. I also love the “film card holder” on the back....again, encouraging thoughtful consideration for the subject....and yes, nostalgia - what’s wrong with that? I will be upgrading, but not for at least 6 months, by which time I expect deep discounts, because sadly, they won’t sell many units!! Well done Fuji for being different from the rest.

I wish Fuji put in a resolution mode in the x pro series to shoot the same panoramic ratio as the TX1/xpan done in camera with guide lines. I hope the xpro4 comes with the same mini screen on the back but if you want to bring out the screen it can swivel all angles. I do like the option to have the screen not shown and have the film mode and iso on the back. I hope they put the same dials on top as xt4. Make the ovf zoom to suit the lens connected more like xpro2. Bang in the newest stacked sensor with good low light and we have a winner.

Is the 80's SLR & 70's rangefinder style the optimal form factor for a camera? Other form factors offer advantages and disadvantages; turn of century DSLR blobs, field and technical cameras, twin lens reflex, phone, 70's style hassleblad, action cam. Are consumers and photographers now voting with their wallets for their favoured form factor? What about the upcoming augmented reality eye ware tech, will they come with focal length frame lines like xpro3? Older folks will love the nostalgia of something like xpro3, but is it better or worse user experience than a phone or DSLR blobby cam in the minds of young folk?

Everybody seems to be focused on that LCD. I'm an X-Pro shooter since day 1 and I really don't care much about the LCD. Sure, I'd prefer a fixed display, or better yet none at all, but it doesn't make much of a difference to me, i don't use it either way. I'd rather know more about how the single magnification OVF compares to the predecessor. How much harder is it to shoot the 16mm with? Shutter lag with ERF? Meter reliability with ERF? Can I assign a different function to the Play button? The important stuff, you know.

Very nice and informative video from you, again. Thx. Fuji is playing the marketing game quite clever. Everybody likes their film simulations, nobody likes what all the others are offering in that field. To put your old DSLR top screen on the back, add some small functionality and get raves for that is awesome. Looks like a very desirable camera with some additional, prizey gimmicks. Why would anyone need a titanium top and bottom? Why do we need to pay all these video features build in into every camera now, if we only want to take stills? Every smartphone on the market fulfills my needs for video. It looks a bit silly when people with their leading eye on the left hold that big block in front of their face. Maybe one day Fuji will be brave enough to produce a model with the viewfinder on the right side of the cam?

I had no idea that rangefinder cameras were still manufactured! The fact that they are suggests that there must still be a market - something I wouldn’t have imagined. Does it have any real advantage over a DSLR or mirrorless? Or is it just the retro nostalgia at work here? Me the look of it reminds of my very first camera - a plastic fixed-focus no-name piece of junk, so no nostalgic feelings on my part! Later I shot with my father’s Agfa rangefinder for years, and some of the pictures were actually more or less in focus. This Fuji of course “cheats” and uses autofocus, so the retro more or less stops at the outside. A screen that can only be seen if flipped down seems very strange. Almost as if to offer the owner the possibility of denying to his friends that it even has a screen, and then to furtively sneak peek when they’re looking away. This is a camera that I just don’t understand. And £1700 is ridiculous.

I'm not in the X-pro market - although I'm sure X-pro shooters will generally not have a problem with the design decision. I'm an XE fan - and this camera kind of demonstrates how the XE3 was made at an awkward time. I feel like Fuji should bring out an XE3s with the sensor and capabilities of the XT30 and with the electronic finder of the X-pro3. As an XE fan, I have no use for the optical finder and the cost and bulk it adds. But I would buy the XT30 over the XE3 for the sensor and video - despite really hating the fake-SLR prism housing mirrorless form. But an XE camera with that hi-res viewfinder and the now-standard X-trans4 sensor would be an absolute no-brainer for me. The perfect combination of form and function at this stage of technology.

Not for me! I don't like being manipulated in this way. If I want to use the rear screen less, it's simple to make that decision on an X-T3 and better still on some Canons, for example, you can fold the rear screen away, because it rotates. The loss of the D-pad is a problem too.

Fuji should really make an affordable X-Pro camera with just manual focusing and a real rangefinder like the one in Leica M-series, ditching the rear display completely and let users view the results on their phones.

They should have made it a reversible flip screen, similar to Canon's 60D. Fuji has gone a little too retro. I expect this will be a deal breaker for many.

nice review Gordon as always - the LCD is a deal breaker - silly - and then no more 4 way dial pad which means 4 less fn buttons. - bad bad but LCD is bad - should have just left as is - what if on a Tripod - no 180 angle what about high up shots. - so what next - remove all dials - silly move for the sake of few FUJI purists - the xt-3 has more grain then that of the xt-2 - yes more MP. - just do not think that all users use EVF - Except those purists and those with 20/20 eyesight - i hate reviewing in EVF - I do not think this camera will break any sales records - I am not upgrading due to LCD and no 4 way pad - so few physical buttons now - but plenty of space for some more - disappointed

The screen folds down like a hide-away ironing board which is supposed to be useful somehow? The real gimmick is the tiny LCD. Why not just have an open slot so I can put a family photo in it? LOL

@@Gadgetdad007 No offence brother, but you are deluded if you think for one second a smartphone can compare. They definitely have their place, they have features which surpass the tech in cameras, and more people use them globally for photography, but NO WAY is the quality or flexibility even close. I do believe that phones will close the gap for joe public, but try shooting in low light or a soaring eagle with a smartphone... lol.. good luck with that.

Deluk, what do you consider this segment of the market? In my opinion it’s an ugly camera no matter what segment of the market. If all the cameras in what you consider is it’s segment of the market look similar, then it should be called the ugly camera segment.
@delukxy
@delukxy 4 жыл бұрын
@@johnsmalldridge6356 The rangefinder style isn't for everyone but if you always use a viewfinder when taking photographs it maybe have a spec that suits you. Fuji call it low key in their press release and that continues the X-Pro tradition. Not one you have any love for I guess. I like plain and simple cameras that have their abilities inside and available to those owners who can make best use of them. Bells and whistles on the outside often confuse more than help. Do you think the current Leica's look better? Yes they are a more regular shape and I like that too. The implementation of the new screen may not find favour with some current X-Pro users but that doesn't affect its beauty status. I like the Rich GRIII but that is probably ugly in your eyes too. What is your go to camera? Is it with you wherever you go? Mine is a Lumix LX7 but I'd be happy to upgrade if I had the funds.
