Mate, great work. I have had the 20 for a few years and am expecting the 3 this week. Was interested to see the size difference. Great video, mate. Thanks.

I was fortunate to get a great deal on an X-T20 in silver and the 2.8-4 kit lens recently. At the same time, I coincidentally checked around for local deals and managed to score a deal on a 23mm F2 WR. I absolutely love using my vintage Pentax 35mm adapted on my Sony full frame so I think I'll have fun with the Fuji combo as well.

Thanks! Curious to hear how you find the xt20 and the Pentax combo.

I'm condering to buy a X-T3 (the price is really low and there are currently a cashback). How much better is the autofocus on the X-T3 compared to X-T20? I currently using X-T20 and X-H1 (similar autofocus performance) and they are fine for landscape, street and portrait - but when we do event photography we are struggling with the autofocus performance and hit rate even. Some times the camera shows that it has acquired focus but when you get how you can se that this is not the case.

Hi Thomas, a good question but also a difficult one to answer. The speed of the AF is a co-operation between the camera and the lens, so upgrading the body may not give much difference if the lens is the bottleneck. Also, the advanced AF mode (I assume you shoot events with face detect or some of the more advanced modes) may be more computer power demanding that say single point mode (in which the XT3 should make mince meat of the XT20), but this is difficult for me to measure. I did a "focus-near / focus-far, and repeat" test with both the XT20 and the XT3 with AF-S single point on, and I did not notice any difference in how fast the focus was obtained (based on the beep from the focus confirmation). So I would not expect miracles upgrading to the XT3 in this regard. Also, the XH1 that you already have, I would assume has approximately the same computing power as the XT3, so again, this would point to the thinking that the XT3 would not do wonders. Maybe you are better off looking for a lens with faster focus capabilities (?) - I am no expert here, but would assume reviewers would make a not of the AF focus speed. Hope this helps - I have probably just confused you on a higher level, but I am reluctant to give a simple answer if I believe there is not such one. Hope you agree. All the best!

I need a camera for before and after photos of bathroom and kitchen remodels. Is there a Fujifilm or other brand camera you recommend for this specific task?
@frederikboving2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, I think that many cameras today are so good that they can solve the task with documenting before/after renovations. Unless you have some very specific demands, my thinking is that the “base level” of a modern digital camera in most cases is so high that it will suffice. Of course there are differences, but most cameras that manage to stay in the market does so because they have or have built a fan base, and that is difficult to do if your camera is not up to par with the competition (the internet has created brutal transparency when it comes to camera reviews etc). So I would more look to requirements in terms of handling and user friendliness. Is it valuable to you that the camera is small and easy to carry? How about the menu system - should it be intuitive and easy to work with? Etc. I think Fuji checks many of the boxes in that case. They sell small APS-C camera with really good image quality and their lenses are really good too without being crazy expensive. But you have to try it yourself. Reading reviews is one thing, but actually handling and working with the camera in real life is another ting. See if you can lend or borrow one before deciding. Just to give an example: Sony is an excellent camera, I got the A7Rii and it is really good. But my hands have never liked this camera. Too many edges and sharp corners. And the menu system is horribly complex to navigate in. I mention this just to illustrate that how you find the camera in terms of weight and handling and user interfaces is (almost) a bigger differentiator than the image quality. Hope this helps! All the best!

I am getting my first fuji camera and the compact of the X-T20 is very appealing. I am in a budget also so that is something else I need to consider.

Yes weight and size is super important when choosing a camera. Mind you that the fujifilm glass is not cheap, and there is not many alternatives to the fujifilm original glass, so you may want to factor that into your budget considerations. If you stay with the not-so-fast fujifilm glass (f/2) then the weight on your budget is less heavy.

Hi stranger! 😊 A smaller camera body is nice, as long as there isn't a need to place more controls or dials on it than its surface can handle. A lack of space for ergonomically placements of control/dial, especially important for left eye dominant photographers is the root of the problem. Hence, since day one, all my primary cameras are full size bodies (Nikon F2A, D3, etc.), and without those ON/OFF button locks that one never knows which state they are in, while shooting. Also, retro dials and controls are nice, but reading the markings on them in the dark can be challenging. Of course, it is not a negative point nowadays since most modern photographers are natural light photographers and their marking values also appear on the viewfinder info panel.

Hi BFS, yes, changed the name of my channel. Felt it was a bit strange to "hide" behind the New2Photography name, although it was a good way to signal what my channel is about. Yes, the more I get used to the XT3 (and its size), the less I use the XT20. Really a good thing all the key dials and buttons "fit" the larger body of the XT3.

@@frederikboving That is something I knew way back when I used my Nikon F2A vs. FM & FE2. Loved the lighter & smaller body of the FM/FE2 but hated the cramped space. The funny thing was that the latest video about the Canon 90D from "The Everyday Dad" also mentioned his discovery about the value of having a larger body. Since it is against the trend, I didn't usually comment about that is one of the ways how I kick the tires. Yeah, since you had already passed the new2photography stage, your new channel name will be more suitable for your future contents.
