The X100V is the absolute best travel, personal, and family camera that I could ever recommend to people. From the newly redesigned 35mm equivalent 23mm f/2 lens to the amazing electronic viewfinder and reliable autofocus, it's a fool-proof photo machine. Between this or the X-E4, they've become my top recommendations for a starter camera if you have the money.

I’ve been a looooong time user of X100 series, had several iterations of them during years as personal camera.... until found the Q. Obviously more expensive but you already know that. I always say to all my friends: The Leica Q is the “cheapest” camera ever made for its quality, period. Expecting a full review chief 😉

@@benjhaisch it’s often too adventurous and risky to make such a categorical affirmation, but I’ll say it: I’m 100% convinced that this would be an epic camera for you, that’s it, is that damn good... Used price feels a “steal”, which is crazy in Leica world terms. I’ve used it in documentary work, weddings, concerts, street and of course as everyday tool. Leica M experience is superior, but the Q... ohhhhh the Q.... Come visit to Spain (after this craziness is over) and I’ll share you mine one for an amazing holiday 🇪🇸😎

If the Q2 was the same price as the X100V, would you still go for the Fuii ? The Q2 lens / sensor and the ability to use the crop feature makes it superior camera, but the Fuji is a nice lower price option.
@TheVFXbyArt
@TheVFXbyArt 2 жыл бұрын
@@kiwipics the fuji’s DR400 mode allows me to capture about two stops of highlight detail without having to underexpose the image, leaving me with dark jpgs and hours of post processing time. It does all of that in camera in that mode, both for jpg & raw. This along with the film sims and unique sensor layout really solidified this camera’s place as a street photography camera for me.

You mention the lattitude in highlights. Perhaps good to add that Fuji callibrates their lightmeters with an 18% greycard like we used to do in the days of film. Most other brands use a 30% greycard with digital sensors.That results in a permanent slight underexposure of Fuji raw files giving them a bit more lattitude in highlights. Downside is less details in shadows, but that’s generally easier to correct in post. It’s not that Fuji has a higher dynamic range than other comparable cameras. I’ve been using the Fuji X-system professionally for quite a while. When I switched to another brand I really had to adjust my metering and workflow in post. Having said that, I still enjoy the X100V. For me a perfect example of great product management. In every iteration there’s a solid improvement, without throwing good stuff overboard like the did with the X-Pro3 (vs the X-Pro2).

One note benj: Set iso to 640 to enable they dynamic range setting dr400. This will enable even higher hilight retention in RAW than usual. Not mentioned is that the Fuji’s are dual native iso cameras. Above 640 iso is uses another a to d converter. The price will be some noise in the shadows. This is far easier to correct Than blown hilights. Thx for vid!

Nice video! I would actually like to see more tests of video overheating these days. At launch it was bad apparently but I wonder how much was firmware vs. hardware design limitations. I am wanting a good photo/vloggers camera and while I know theirs better options for either/or I wish this V can handle long run times on a tripod. If even just 1080p..but preferably 4k.

I really like the photo look from this camera. I regularly use a Leica M8 with the Voigtlander 35mm single coated Nokton. So it’s hard to justify the X100V, I like the waetherprofing on the V so maybe when the next X100 comes out I’ll pick one up.

Your videos are so useful for those of us in the market for a new camera! Two partially unrelated questions: 1) why do you think Fuji don’t just... make a film camera? It’s the only area in which they don’t compete directly with Leica. 2) that’s a lovely strap - where is it from? Thanks again for the honest reviews - I’m subscribed to many channels but yours are much more personal to you and therefore useful.

While I wanted to have this camera in my hands, I held off since I just bought an XT3 last December and we still have quarantine restrictions implemented. Anyway, I'm interested in what you mentioned about the soft shutter release button issues your commenters have mentioned. I would like to know what they exactly are as I have one installed on my XT3, if they have tips on how to avoid shutter mechanism problems, and how much would the approximate cost be for the repair. Thank you.

Great breakdown, got me juiced about my x100v, thanks! So what are your thoughts on auto WB and do you shoot in raw only? I’m finding that the AWB and skin tones are amazing out of the box and better than my z6... Thanks again!

Just happened to read your comment :D I use the X100V too, and in the beginning I had always set it to AWB, however, in some situations it really messes up the WB e.g. when taking photos in nature/forest with lots of different greens - at least from my experience, which is why I only set it manually now.

Ah, good to know about trees and landscape. I was thinking about how well it worked indoors with different kinds of light sources and how well it does with people/skin, but will look out for WB in nature, etc. thanks!

best photo I've ever taken was of my two boys at Sloopy's using my X100 - no brainer, diabolically good contraption - mind blowing at times ...... it's not you are there, it's like they are here - got it ?

I’ve a T, 2 F’s and now a V. Love them all and used the built in ND filter all the time. Here’s something I’ve discovered but heard no one mention: the 3stop ND was perfect. Shooting in bright afternoon light wide open at ISO 160, I get the red, 2000+ SS warning, but when I turn on the 4stop ND the SS drops to between 160 and 250. That’s much too slow and NOT a versatile range. Have that at only f2.8. As I said, at 3stops this would have been a SS around 360-500. Does anyone else wonder why Fuji upped the ND filter to 4stops? Every talks like this is an improvement. What am l missing?

Love this camera. I use it when I need my confidence level to be high on my shoots, i.e., night shoots, VERY special occasions, or when I need to travel light. However, for going around and doing street photography, I use my Leica M9.

I have an X100V on order. I love your B&W images of your kids. Mind if I ask what settings and post-production techniques you used to get that look?

Hey thanks, I use my Cascade Presets from pack 02, specifically “B+W flat +” I basically just copy/paste that on most of the images. You can find the link in the description if you’re interested.

You're going to love that camera :) I use Benj's Cascade presets too and they work very well with the Fujifilm Raw files. In addition, I find that the in-built Fujifilm Acros film simulation does a fantastic job :)

Thanks for your reviews on this. Would you recommend this for a newbie? I don't ever use zooms because I turn on the camera and quickly get a shot. (99% of the time). I throw my camera in a bag or carry it on my body for candid shots. I ride my bike casually and have it on my neck or in a bag on my handlebars which also means turning it on and taking a quick shot. I really only want to adjust the aperture and iso if needed. I would like to learn how to take photos at night. I like people photos most of all. After watching your reviews on this, it seems like a good fit. Maybe an expensive experiment but something I could grow into. I've been shooting with a p+s for over 10 years and love taking a photo a day . I've done multiple 365 projects and just find that shooting is fun. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you think it would be an expensive experiment, just but an original X100 or x100S (or even an XE-1 or XE-2 and an 18mm f2 for for about £200), and see how it goes.

I can't imagine Fujifilm making one, but I'd love it. I've been begging Sony to make a RX1R III. The other versions both have a full frame 35/2

Just wondering, if you would please be so kind. I am thinking of buying the Fujifilm X100V..and I am wondering if the Panasonic LUMIX small pocket camera DC-TZ220 might be a better camera? It has a small 15 x zoom. Any thoughts on comparing these two cameras? ..thank-you!
