There was a car that came out in the US Domestic market around 2015 or so. It was called the Fiesta ST. It caught the same hype as the X100V. Journalists loved talking about it, making content with it, and discussing it. And that lasted its entire existence. I knew they actually thought it was a good enthusiast car when they started buying them with their own money, which every one of them did, and when they used them whether or not content was being made. It was that endorsement which made me think it was worth owning. And so I bought one. And I was right. The X100VI is no different. I will know it is good when the journalists who write about these things and speak on them and influence opinion about them start paying for them with their own money and using them whether or not they are making content. I will know when a year from now they are still using them despite having access to any camera they want.

I went from London to Cambridge in the UK today, to my favourite camera shop and I have pre-ordered a Fuji X100VI. They had a Fuji event today with one of the Fuji reps, and I was able to get hands-on with the camera. Felt great so I immediately ordered it. Now I am eagerly wating for it to arrive. Nice video, by the way Phil. As always.

This was a really good perspective. Talking about a fun camera. It's fun for us who are used to cemeras. But not towards the people that are coming from smartphones. X100 can be very complicated and not so enjoyable for those people.

On Reddit people are saying that the x100vi has one more thread on the lens vs the x100v. That leaves a small gap on the x100vi as far as threads go. Did you experience this?

Luckily it worked 😊 They told me at the time of picking up they already have to pages full of people waiting for theirs to come in.

X100 is not designed to be the first and only one camera in my opinion - I would recommend depending on budget just (used X-T20, X-T30) or X-T5 / X-S20 with zoom at the beginning until someone gets his favorite focal length. Then such person can buy 1-3 primes to level up his skills and have more room to learn. X100VI is overhyped, of course :)
@geofff6671
@geofff6671 5 ай бұрын
Good advice but I’d suggest getting two primes from the start, 50 and 28. Learning your favourite focal length with a zoom is tricky because one just tends to zoom to any focal length rather than moving with your feet which is what is really needed for good framing. I say that as someone who used zooms for years before rediscovering primes.
@IntrovertAmateur
@IntrovertAmateur 5 ай бұрын
That's great advice! I guess if someone should start with a zoom or a prime depends on individual preference. Thank you for watching your your time commenting!
@JackBurton-qp4hc
@JackBurton-qp4hc 5 ай бұрын
@@geofff6671 Shooting with a zoom and then sorting your images by focal length is the perfect way of identifying what focal length is best for you. You are already constraining yourself with primes and will not find out that 50 or 28 isn't what you need, it is a 35 or 16! You have then wasted money on primes you don't use. Learn using a zoom, they are dirt cheap in comparison too.

Budget is the first question. If you have $1600 buy an X100Vi it’s a perfectly fine camera. Nobody with a $400 budget would be considering it… to your point they’d buy an A6000

Nice video! 👍🏻 As you said, you don't need this camera for having fun. It seems to be very good, yes. But for fun, I would choose an older and cheaper camera. I would be too afraid, it could be boken or stolen. With a cheaper cam, you're feeling free, to bring it with you all the time with no regrets. But I also know, how nice it is, to have something new😉 have fun, enjoy!

Thanks for the video!I have a Nikon ZF and I'm so tempted to get the Fuji X100VI to pair with it, especially after i sold my beloved Xpro3. I do have a Canonet ql17 giii rangefinder film camera in silver which looks very similar to the X100VI, even more compact, but nowadays shooting with film is getting so expensive sadly. Since you have both, how does the X100VI compare to the ZF? Any reason for you to wanting both in your kit?Thanks!
@IntrovertAmateur
@IntrovertAmateur 5 ай бұрын
I use the X100VI as an additional camera to the Zf, since it is more compact and lighter + being a highend point and shoot. The Zf feels "more" like a real camera, because it is bigger, with bigger EVF and screen + option to change lenses. Currently I'm selling of some other cameras of mine and the Zf will become my main camera for filming these videos, because it has the flip out screen. The X100VI has now also great video specs, but I can't monitor myself without the flip screen. These are just my reason, how I justify both cameras in my possesion :D Hope this answers your question :). Thanks for watching!

Depends on your budget and your preferences. If you are good with a fixed lens the X100VI will reward you with a lighter compact body and size including lens. Since the X100VI has 40MP you should be fine, downside is a bit the battery life, but extra batteries don't cost much extra. If you like the option to change lenses AND want to crop extremly for your family photos the A7CR is a good option, but in my opinion overkill for your use case to be honest. I would rather save a bit of money and choose the A7CII, which has the same body, 33MP is enough and also full frame. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Which alternative camera would you suggest if you only use a smartphone right now? Maybe
@JackBurton-qp4hc
@JackBurton-qp4hc 5 ай бұрын
Second-hand Fuji is the obvious answer. Ricoh GR3 if you want compact without viewfinder. Sony RX100 if not bothered about having an APS-C sensor. Lots of other choices of brands and models if you are only wanting a phone alternative. Since we have no idea what you want to shoot, where and in what conditions, I'm not sure they will give you anything more than an iPhone though to be brutally honest!
@IntrovertAmateur
@IntrovertAmateur 5 ай бұрын
Hard to tell, since I don't know what you like to shoot or if you want to take videos as well. If you need good AF I would say an used Sony A6400 with a used Sigma prime lens is a nice combo under 1k$. If AF is not that important to you any older Fujifilm cameras like the XT 1-4 or XT 10-30with the kit lens would be also a great choice. For ultra compact size your are also able to pickup a Ricoh GR3, which also has an APSc sensor. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Every new version is always overhyped. They add so little having any true meaning from even their first version in the long run. But that is the way of things after all in our fast moving world :) But maybe in the camera world , the X100 series are the most hyped up and in some ways over hyped . Also maybe as a consequence of that i have never seen a camera model being left for other cameras and sold on the marketplace a few months after. Many being bored with it after saying it was so perfect first hehe. And with the V especially it became ridiculous with the secondhand prices being alost like new or more. Just because they were hard to get not because of what the camera was worth. Also the way of the world i know, but still silly :) I had the X100F and while it thought it was fun it felt a bit like a toy in comparison to the Q or M240 i later had. Also was shooting with the X-T1 and 2 and 3, but except the X-T1 and maybe two in some ways i did not like what they were doing with the later models in fuji. Got bigger and bigger as well as just cramming in more megapixels but being worse in other ways. I started shooting Fuji when the X-T1 came just because of the smaller lenses and camera body and retro look, but along the way that sort of got sidetracked in my opinion. Its like every camera that comes out has to also be the perfect V-Logging toy like the mobile phones or they are scared people wont buy them ;) I really liked the way Nikon went with the ZF though in contrast. They dared making a retro model although they are so invested in the Z bodies that look very boring and mundane, i would never have bought a Z body otherwise, but the Zf was almost perfect for me at this stage :) You did not buy your Zf that long ago right? :) How do you have the time hehe? Now also a new X100Vi! Im hard pressed on time only with 1 new camera to learn it and get comfortable with it over time. Going to be interesting following the development! Gratz to your new "baby" hope you brings you a lot of great images . /Martin.

Thank you very much for your comment and your kind words! Appreciate it! I 100% agree with you and it isn't only impacting the camera niche. Smartphones are also a prime example for that kind of development. To be honest I just like to play with different cameras. Emphasis is on play. They are toys to me and along that I really enjoy capturing memories of my family with different cameras. I don't use them for professional work and therefore definitely don't use the full potential of every camera I own. Still I hope to provide some kind of value with these videos from a perspective of an hobbiest :) Thank you again for your time watching!

which color looks better in real life silver/ black?
@JackBurton-qp4hc
@JackBurton-qp4hc 5 ай бұрын
I prefer silver, all bl@ck looks too modern to me. Look at the comparison to the M6 in this video for example. I also have a different view on the body colour for street photography. I get silver as it looks more "retro" and therefore less intrusive. I have the silver Fuji 27mm for my Fuji too. Nobody appears to care about somebody walking around with an "old" camera, whereas a bl@ck one draws attention as it looks like any other modern camera.
@IntrovertAmateur

When I started to get curious about the X100V back then, I first chose the black one, because the silver looked cheap on the pictures. But when I had the chance to get my hands on a silver one, I personally prefer the silver color. Looks more retro for me and as mentioned in the video looks beautiful next to my silver M6. I cancelled my pre-order The X-T5 is cheaper now and has better IQ with the 18mm 1.4, 33mm 1.4 or 56mm 1.2. I sold mine but I think I will rebuy it since I have all those lenses. I was hoping for a Pro4 but it will not come this year. The Nikon Z6II is much cheaper, the ZF or Z7II used is the same price, a bit more expensive. The IQ will probably be better no matter which Z lens you use.
